The other thread about "Where would you buy if you were going to sell in 10-12 years" had me considering our long term DVC plans and goals. I can't ever imagine selling them, as Disney vacations have been such an important, happy and memorable part of our family for many, many years.

We are in the process of attempting to purchase a smaller 100 point contract to start out with. At least for right now, as I envision them for our family, here are our plans for the next five years:

- 100 point add on at VWL. This will allow us to have home resorts in both the Epcot and MK areas (if we pass ROFR on our first one!).

- 100 point add on at a new DVC. I would love it if it were AKL!

- Possibly an add on of 50 points at Vero Beach as we loved it so much.

- 300-350 points would be the total amount we would probably ever consider purchasing.

We just took the SSR tour last week during our visit, and our Guide, who was quite wonderful, could not or would not share any future DVC plans other than saying in a very general way that Disney would probably continue to build DVC properties.

Not having any type of feel whatsoever with what the future plans for DVC might be, led us to our decison to buying where our needs were matched the best for the foreseeable future. That meant, for us, buying near the parks.

Just wondering what others DVC plans are! :)

We currently have 200 points at SSR. We just stayed there for the first time and I really loved it a lot. I think it is very satisfying to me and feel my needs are met with this resort. I do feel a little away from it all though - which I love if I want to be away, but don't love if I want to be near the parks.

I eventually want to have 415 points so I can be able to rent a 2 bedroom (which fits my family perfectly) during peak season at almost any resort. If they are all at SSR, then I will be perfectly content.

We will be trying out the other resorts to see if we will add-on through a different resort, or just stick to SSR for the extra 12 years. I love Epcot, so think I will eventually want to do an add-on at BCV or BWV. I am staying at BWV in June, so we will soon see.

In addition to the 415 points, I would love to have enough extra points to rent out to pay our dues each year. Of course this is all in the perfect world when I get that million dollar check in my mailbox. :rotfl2: The mailman keeps missing my box for some reason. :rotfl:

My long range plan is to sell my contract in say 12 years or so. By then I feel we will have enough memorable vacations at the "world". I also feel my SSR contract will still have good value at that point. I don't see DVC as a lifetime thing for us. We'll sell and hopefully have vacationed for only the costs of the dues.

I also see some disturbing trends at the "world" as well. Cost cutting without regard to guest comfort. Look at the poor housekeeping you now see, how about those room temp. sensors making you wake up in a sweat, cold pools, contracted out work, failure to keep the theme parks current, etc. These are trends I follow closely and really are disturbing to me.

DVC is also poor from a trade standpoint and has high dues. There are far better traders out there for far less money. We also like variety. We'll hold other timeshares as traders but will part with our DVC. We may hold a small DVC contract to keep our foot in the door, so to speak ,or we may just rent points.

I hear so many people here talk about passing this on to there kids. I don't plan on doing that. In fact I find that might end up being a burden to the kids. Those dues will be substantial when these contracts get "passed on". Who's to say if your kids would want that type of liability? Who knows where they will be in there life? I'd much rather sell, invest that money, and pass the cash on to him. He can then do what he wants with it. I'll pare down all my holdings as time goes on to make them easily transferable through my trust. Passing on of liability isn't my cup of tea.

My views have changed on this from the time I purchased but really holding until the end of term seems like a mistake to me. I'll sell while the contract still has value.

Thanks for the great post. :thumbsup2

Us too! We don't really plan any more buy or sell until PERHAPS when we retire and have more free time to spend at WDW. Then we may buy more points at OKW-when they expire, we'll be over 90, so maybe we'll "expire" then too.

My long term plan is to do a 60 -100 point add on at Contemporary if that ever becomes a reality and/or 25 points at Vero Beach.

And go to Disney every year!!!

We have a 250 point contract at OKW. In 10-12 years our children will be out of high school and we can vacation in the off (lower point) season.

At that time, we hope to be able to go to OKW at least 1 week during the winter and still have plenty of points available to still do something later in the year as a family.

I don't know about adding on but I'm hopeful of being able to book HHI in the fall or spring once the children are in college and we have more vacation flexibility.

I just bought 200 points at BWV when I have these paid for I'm adding on another 100 points ( maybe 2 - 50 point contracts ) I figure I could comfortable pay dues on that many points so thats how many I want :thumbsup2

Oooh, we're planned out the wazoo ;)

Currently we have 150 VWL points
In 4ish years we'll add on another 150 points at our next fave resort (with the longer years)
A couple years after that we'll add another 150 points at another fave resort

By then, hopefully we'll have kids that are school age... and we'll have 450 points so that we can stay in 1br's a couple times a year - or bank 'em and bring family down with us. We'll have DVC until we die, probably - and we'll enjoy every second of it.

Course... that's the plan... who knows what'll actually happen.

I just bought 150 points in 2005. Once I pay it off I'll add on points and continue that way until I retire. My goal is to have enough points to spend 1-2 months of the winter at WDW (but I'll pay for a few weekend nights) and a week during F & W or Christmas.

This August we're introducing the next generation to WDW. DMom/Sis/Son as well as our Boston Branch of the family will be there. DH says that he hopes to be around as they enjoy each of the on site DVC's, one each year. I looked at him and thought well, yes, it is my fervent hope that we are both around to see that!

We have 550 points, spread around BWV, VWL, and VB, and the fees are enough to discourage any more add ons. Retirement is probably less than 2 years away.

Our first trip to WDW was in 1977, with 1 DS and 1 on the way. DH and I enjoy and look forward to each of our upcoming trips with anticipation and a feeling that "its been too long," but you know we were there in January!

We hope to enjoy it for as long as we can and have no plans to sell our DVC.

My DH and I have 200 points. 150 at BCV and we just added 50 at SSR. We are in our mid forties with no children. We plan on adding a few more points in the future. We will be using ours to go everywhere. WDW, Disneyland, VB and HH and another cruise. That takes up about 5 years. After that we will just enjoy wherever the mood takes us. :moped:

Our long term plans are to be able to spend a lot of time in WDW during retirement. Hpefully we can accumulate enough points so we can do a lot of traveling.

I would love to do an add on of 75-100 points at VWL. I dont see this happening for awhile...but maybe someday.

We just bought a 160 points at SSR in 2005. Our long range plans are to add more at what ever new resort is built. Enjoy WDW with our family. But our short range plan is to buy a contract at VB. I too would like to have enough points to spend a great deal of time down there in retirement. But as I am a ways from that, I am going to enjoy every moment of the time we have there. :sunny:

Long range palns: Well with a 5 and 3 year sold we probably will hold onto it for at list 12 years. Possibly do and add on at a new resort if they build a CRV or PRV.

I always thought that I would like to have enough points to spend at least three to four weeks, with my wife, in a one bedroom at OKW in late January and early February. We now have 550 points, enough to do that.

Unfortunately, the 550 points we own keep being used for other things. Three years ago we went to England and stayed at the Royal Gardens Hotel. This winter we stayed at the Grand Californian in two concierge rooms with a daughter from Seattle. Last year we took friends to VWL. We also used points at the American club in Kohler, WI. Next year we need a GV.

All of the points we will get in June are already used. Half of 2007's points are also gone.

I think anyone who wants to be a regular "snowbird" needs to have enough points for the winter stay plus an equal number for other uses.

I think I will need to accumulate about 1000 points total.

First of all, a second home or vacation cottage just would not compare with being able to visit WDW multiple times per year in home away from home DVC Resorts. It is our love of Disney that supercedes any other location for us.

My husband and I together own over 1,000 points and we have not only seen our investment multiply, but have enjoyed countless WDW trips and cruises over the years.

Our last contract will be paid off shortly and all will be free and clear. Will we ever sell? Probably not. I envision our daughters enjoying many years of WDW trips with their own families (when they marry one day) and hope any future grandchildren will also partake in our love of all things Disney.

We are bordering on 60 (one of us is already there :teeth: ), and we have no plans to add-on OR sell DVC. Our plan is to visit WDW for as many years as we can navigate it, and then let our "kids" take over. We currently have 380 points at OKW, and the only thing that might entice me to add on would be a Hawaii DVC.
