What are your drop dead issues?

I notice for a lot of people there are one or two issues, that will make or break how they feel about a candidate.

I notice people will say, I really like so-and-so, but can't agree with his position on XYZ, so he's out. But they can accept his position on environmental issues, or social security, etc, even if it differs from theirs. There's just one issue that for them is do or die.

Abortion is one for some people. Gun control is another. Do you have one of those issues?

Health care and the war in Iraq

Environment, healthcare, immigration, and tax reform are things I care about very much. I've never found a candidate who is perfect on all of those issues, though!

The one thing that is a definite turnoff for me is extreme right wing religious mandates: the fact that Bush made stopping gay marriage some kind of priority just made me pretty much hate him.

#1 - Religion.

I am religious but feel it has no place in our government or in our schools.

I must agree with the candidates Health Plan & the plan to leave Iraq!

Not American but anyone who takes any form of extremist stance on anything, and anyone who thinks that Iraq is or ever was a good idea.

Oh and if any candidate ever used their religion or moral values within a campaign they would be OUT OUT OUT. This is one thing I would NEVER change about the UK.

Abortion, Stem Cell research, Healthcare.

Iraq War
Foreign Relations
Civil Rights
Economy and fair distribution of wealth

Most of all, I want an intelligent candidate who surrounds him/herself with the best and the brightest from both sides of the aisle and listens to what they have to say. I want a candidate who keeps open dialog with any country that will listen to us. As Teddy said, speak softly and carry a big stick!

If they want to add a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage they are out. If they want to turn America into a religious state, they are out.

Immigration & the WOT.

Wow, a voting Wheel of Time fan!

No seriously, I got what you meant, I just had to poke fun.

Hmmm...guess I should answer the question, too, and put myself out there for ridicule.

Number one would be the teaching of creationism in public schools. I'm for the separation of church and state in general, but as a Biology major this particular trend irks me the most. My parents, life-long republicans that they are, could not vote their party in the last gubernatorial election because the guy supported the dumbing down of evolutionary teaching. They were very disappointed.

I admit I have a few that I just can not give up on... too bad with our flawed two party system there is not another choice for those of us who don't walk right down the blue or the red. Wish it was more like many European countries where there are many different parties... allows for the people to really vote what they want instead of having to pick the second best...

But yea, my issues:

- Right to Choose
- Environmental Issues
- Gay Rights (this is a current issue for me... I am not gay, but I will have nothing to due with a "leader" who is unwilling to give people basic rights)

My #1 is immigration, followed by (in no particular order) environment, Iraq, the economy (taxes), and health care.

Other big issues but not necessarily deal breakers for me are: education, stem cell research, abortion, and gay marriage.

My biggest concern is Iraq followed by the economy(balancing the budget, getting us out of debt), and healthcare for all.

As a college senior who is looking at losing (my parents) insurance coverage in May, health care is #1 for me. Followed closely by foreign relation policies (not just for middle eastern countries, but for all countries, how does the candidate plan on keeping/building good relationships). Social issues such as abortion and gay marriage are also deal breakers for me.

I agree. Graduated college in December and so far no luck at getting a job that either pays enough that I can afford my own or that has benefits.

They are all so important to me...guess this in order

Education Education Education
Iraq war..pulling out
Health care
stem cell research
immigration
Gay rights issue (for)
Gun control

there are more but you get the point:thumbsup2 by the way the economy goes without saying because you cant most of the above without a good economy
