What Are You Reading Right Now?

I just started House of Evil by John Dean. Its the first true crime book I've ever read. They made a movie about the story called An American Crime and I thought the story was so bizarrely interesting so I picked up the book at the library. I hope it doesn't give me nightmares.

The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown (really good!) Started Deception Point by him as well.

I am going to check these out too when I get home from Florida.....

Right now, I am reading Predator by Patricia Cornwell.....Worst Kay Scarpetta book yet. She is way off track since her niece Lucy became a James Bond type...Lost my interest but I have read the series so I feel obligated to read them all.

Thyanks for the new author idea.

I used to love Kay Scarpetta and I stuck it out for a long long time, but now, IMO, they simply aren't worth it. The pacing is so screwed up and a lot of the good action happens while you, the reader, are stuck with someone else. And then it is over. Not to mention the disgusting and horrifying ways Patricia Cornwell has dreamed up for people to die.

I think she ran out of good ideas after she killed off Benton Wesley. They just went downhill from there.

I've got 3 books going at the same time right now:

1- Peter and the Shadow Thieves by Ridley Pierson and Dave Barry
2- Echo in the Bone by Diana Gabaldon
3- Dead and Gone by Sharlaine Harris

I'm also reading Echo in the Bone. My mother surprised me and bought it for me. I had it on reserve at the library but I was like 247 or something like that.

Just finished Water for Elephants. Good book!

Just started The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown. I've really enjoyed his other books.

I'm on an Anita Blake kick after finding some of the novels at the library.

Just started Definitely Dead by Charlaine Harris, Book 6 of the Sookie Stackhouse series.

I'm still surprised at how much I'm enjoying these books. They just didn't sound like anything I'd enjoy, but I can't get enough of them. I'm dreading when I'm finished with book 9, because I'll have to wait until next year for my next Sookie novel!

Even worse, I'll have to wait at least a year between books after that! :scared1:

This is one thing I love about finding a good series of books... I can devour them without waiting. It's why I'm not too happy about The Outlander series right now. Once I "caught up," I now can't remember enough details about the previous books by the time she releases a new one. I really don't want to have to go back and read them all (although I did enjoy them immensely!) just to pick up An Echo in the Bone. :sad2:

Actually, A Touch of Dead came out about a week ago- I've already finished it. It is a collection of Sookie Stackhouse short stories that was pretty good and filled in some blanks on the past books. So, when you finish the ninth, try A Touch of Dead! :)

try A Touch of Dead! :)

LOL - this made me laugh because it sounds like a fragrance Eric or Bill would wear. :rotfl2:

I'd heard about the short stories but I didn't know anyone who had read them - glad to hear they were worth the read. I'll add it to my list! :thumbsup2 Thanks for the advice! :goodvibes

For class:
Washington's Crossing - David Hackett Fisher

For enjoyment:
The Lost Symbol - Dan Brown

Today I finished "Will in the World: How Shakespeare Became Shakespeare" by Stephen Greenblatt. This was EXCELLENT!!!

Now, I'm reading "Fairy Tale" by Cyn Balog. It's typical YA lit. Not bad, not great.

Exactly...finished it last night...thank goodness...now, it's on to either New Moon or another Alex Cross title by James Patterson.

I just finished "The Da Vinci Code" by Dan Brown for a class. Now, I want to watch the movie and compare the two!

I'll be interested to see what you think about the movie. I couldn't keep my eyes open any time I've tried to watch it. I think a big part of that, though is that I was so disappointed in the casting of Tom Hanks as Robert Langdon.
