What Are You Reading Right Now?

I just finished Sacred Sins by Nora Roberts and now I am reading High Noon.

High Noon was really good. IIRC, Sacred Sins was a really old book that was reprinted, right? I remember reading it (again) a year or so back and thinking how far her style has progressed.

but it talks about Kay and Benton being married. I remember Trace, was that the one with Loup Garou(?) and then the slash killing of the young guy was maybe in Preadator? I have read so many, I'm sitting here with Book of the Dead in hardback in front of me and for the life of me I cannot remember if I finished it or not!!!!!

This one (I think it was just one book) was personal because it involved the lover and Scarpetta's neice. The (perp) girl was in a mental institution, got out and took on another identity. Got involved with the neice to get back at Scarpetta. If memory serves me, Benton was killed in that same book because the neice felt some responsibility in it. Lou Guaro could be his name. During the whole book people were being murdered by the twisted girl and she left clues leading to her. It was strange.

Scarpetta and Benton weren't married though.

Well, Lucy and the girl did live together. I think they were both working for the FBI at Quantico. The girl managed to sabotage her. I thought Benton was on another assignment but was keeping tabs on the case.

If I recall, the twisted girl had a vendetta against Scarpetta because landed her in the mental institution. I think Benton came to help Scarpetta when she found out the neice was involved with her. All the while there were murders (with notes) taking place. They had twisted girl wounded and trapped at one point (or maybe it was the guy) but she or he disappeared. Shortly after that, Benton met his demise. It was one of the most grisly, detailed murder scenes I've read about.

I wish I could remember the title of the book.

Trace and Predator are the latest ones besides Book of the Dead and Scarpetta. BTW, Benton's still mentioned as alive in Book ofthe Dead ( I'm flipping through it as I sit here). The thing is I so remember what you are talking about though. Could it have been that young FBI agent that was murdered, and not Benton?

Do you typically like Jennifer Weiner? I tried to read Good in Bed, but I could only get through half of it. Her last name definitely suits her. I thought that she was quite the whiner in GiB.

I read all her books but the only one I really liked was In Her Shoes. I think all her books start with a good premise but then halfway through all her books its like she is rushing to finish the book and puts anything down.

If you thought she was whinnnie (sp) in GIB. Definatalty do not read Certain Girls.

I don't remember what books specifically had Benton dead and then reappear, but that happened. She killed him off and it was a major series plot twist. Then it turned out that Benton faked his death. That is when the series and author moved so far off the trail that I stopped reading. Too bad too, the early books were really gripping and tense, which I loved.

I thought Little Earthquakes was a good read. I had just had my kids and reading about the 4 (maybe 3?) women experience such different pregnancies and family situations really spoke to me. It was my favorite, though I did enjoy GIB and Certain Girls.

I agree, her early books were great. As I mentioned earlier, I have Book of the Dead here and honestly cannot remember if I read it or not. First time that's happened.

Thanks. So, Benton faked his death?! Dang. I guess he could've pulled it off because the torture was described as horrific. That explains it.

I was reading about a few titles online. The guy's name was Temple Gault (part of the perp duo). I didn't see the girl's name. One title mentioned Lucy's security breach at Quantico, I think it was, "Body Farm". But I can't say for sure, that was the book in which Benton "died".

I just finished a mystery, Fisherman's Bend, by a writer I hadn't read before, Linda Greenlaw. Apparently in real life the author is a lobster boat and swordboat captain, and was the model for a major character in The Perfect Storm.

The protagonist, Jane Bunker, is a former Miami cop who moves to Maine to be a deputy sheriff and insurance investigator in a coastal county. She spends a fair amount of time investigating by boat, chasing bad guys on a boat, finding bodies on a boat...you get the picture. If you love the water like I do, you'll probably enjoy the book!

The Mirror Cracked is a good read. I don't think I ever read any of Agatha Christie's books. She has/had a great style. I'll be reading more by her.

I just started "Waiter Rant"- it's about this guys years as a waiter on the east coast. Heeven had a blog for a while. Anyway, it is pretty funny, especially for me since I wait tables in a nice restaurant. It should be a quick read. I alsopicked up "Bergdorf Blondes" since it was only $5 and I wanted to use up my giftcard! Anyone read it?

I am just finishing up a terrific book called "We Bought a Zoo" by Benjamin Mee. I would highly recommend it to everyone!

It's the true story of a family that buys a very run-down zoo in Britain and rehabs it as a place to live for their retired mum and the family as well as an ongoing business concern.

It has some very sad parts, some fascinating insights into zookeeping and the exotic animals they house and is well written.

I give it two thumbs up!

P.S. It's an expensive hardcover, but I bet your library has one...

I LOVED Waiter Rant!

Bergdorf Blondes is good, escapist fun although I did read it before the economy tanked, so I'm not sure if that would have changed my impression of it!
