I am just finishing up a terrific book called "We Bought a Zoo" by Benjamin Mee. I would highly recommend it to everyone!

You reminded me that I bought this book and started it (and loved it) but at the moment, I think it's MIA. I have NO IDEA where it could've gotten to. I think I'll have to start a search and recover missing when I get home! LOL

I'm currently smack in the middle of The Dogs of Babel by Carolyn Parkhurst. I wasn't sure about this one at first but am actually really into it.

harry Potter & The Deathly Hollows. then back to beginning alternating w/Twilight :)

Just finished the BIg Bad Wolf by James Patterson....It was a good book to read at the hospital waiting between nurses while my Dad has been sick. I love the short chapters he uses...I have to go iut and buy the next one...London Bridges...

I am now reading the Last Precinct by Patricia Cornwell...It's a slow read...I can't seem to get into it.

I got Twilight for Christmas, I am going with this next.

I love SERIES....I read the Alex Cross books, Kay Scarpetta Books, and the Temperance Brennan books...

Can anyone else recommend anything else I could try...?

My Dad has been in hospital since Dec 27th and I need some new reading Material for those long days.

"Eat This, Not That: Supermarket Survival Guide" by David Zinczenko

I read one of those books! Loved it! I didn't know there was a supermarket version. I'll have to look into it. :) I do get the e-mails. I think they are weekly. Chocked full of information.

Now, I'm off to get order the supermarket version.

I'm reading The People of Sparks. It is the sequel to The City of Ember.

You would probably enjoy Tess Gerritson and for some humor, the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich.

Best wishes for your dad.

I love Nevada Barr's mysteries. They all take place in National Parks and have a middle aged female hero.:thumbsup2 You'll love the Twilight series too, I imagine. Even my DH has gotten sucked into them.

I'm sorry to hear about your Dad. Hopefully, things are looking up for him.

I really like all of Charlaine Harris' series books. I liked the Sookie Stackhouse, Southern Vampire Series the most. I read that right after finishing the Twilight books, so I could stay on a vampire kick.

Harris' Aurora Teagarden series is good, too. Aurora is a librarian that gets sucked into solving all sorts of murder mysteries.

Next is her Lily Bard series. Lily is a housekeeper and karate expert who solves mysteries.

Finally, her Harper Connolly series is about a woman who travels around with her step-brother. She was struck by lightning and can sense dead people. She is called in to find bodies and to help investigators know how people died.

Check out her titles at www.charlaineharris.com.

I love these threads and usually read all through them with a notebook so I can make a list. As of today, my list of books to read recommended by the DIS is 16 pages long.

Right now I'm reading "Autobiography of a Face" by Lucy Grealy. The true story of the author's experiences as a 9 year old going through cancer, and the removal of a third of her lower jaw. It's really good so far.

Over Christmas I read "Size 12 is Not Fat", "Size 14 is Not Fat, Either", and "Big Boned" all by Meg Cabot. I really liked these for easy reading. Fun, light mysteries.

I also recently read "The Last Wife of Henry VIII," by Carolly Erickson. I really liked her style.

Next up is "Lords of the North" by Bernard Cornwell.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Keep 'em coming!

harry potter & twilight are the series I'm readin now. book 2 of hp then twilight, 3 & 4 of hp, new moon, etc.

Just started Inkheart a few days ago, and am REALLY enjoying it. It's enough that I'm obsessed with reading and books, but to find a story where the main characters are obsessed with reading and books as well, completely awesome!

All Nevada Barr's mysteries take place in National Parks? Wow, as a lover of the National parks, I'm gonna check that out. Sounds like a great author to read!

i think i'll jump in... :wave2: i need something new to read...

has anyone read the tale of edagr sawtelle by david wroblewski? i have read about 100 pages and just can't seem to get into it.... if anyone has read it... does it get better or something "good" happen to lure me in??? it has received raving reviews and the story is sweet but just can't get sucked in yet

I just started reading "This Perfect Madness: Parenting in the Age of Anxiety" which is really, really interesting. It talks about how we as parents are SO afraid we'll mess things up by not being involved enough or not hovering enough or not having our kids involved in enough outside activities (sports, etc).

I'm reading, Thirteen Problems, by Agatha Christie. It's a collection of short stories, murder mysteries. I'm enjoying it! :)

I felt the same way as you do. I don't think it got any better myself and was wondering what all the hoopla was. I got 3/4 done and then skipped to the end :(
