What Are You Reading Right Now?

I am subscribing to this thread as I am always looking for a good book to read.

I just finished "Bridge of Sighs" by Richard Russo. It had excellent character development, but I will admit it was a tad boring.

Also, I just read Stephen Kings collection of short stories "Just After Sunset". Very interesting reading.

My favorite books are "A Tale of Two Cities" and "To Kill A Mockingbird"

Has anyone read The Death of Ivan Ilyach, by Leo Tolstoy? I loved LOVED Anna Karenina, but couldn't get into War and Peace. I'm wondering if I should order TDoII from the library. Is it worth it?

Just finished, The Mirror Cracked, by Agatha Christie. I really enjoyed it. Nice twist at the end too. Next, I think I'll read, Thirteen for Dinner, by Agatha Christie.

I loved "The Mirror Cracked"

I just started "A Widow For One Year" by John Irving.

I have never read any of his work, but the guy at the bookstore told me he is a great author and thought I would enjoy the book.

I did too. I caught on early as to why Marina had the "look". Sad and twisted plot. But it all came together nicely.

ETA- I'm waiting for, Thirteen for Dinner. I did start a book called, First Cases, Volume 3, that has short stories by Janet Evanovich, Tony Hillerman, Anne Perry, and others. It's pretty good!

I am reading Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austin, first time reading it! Love it. :thumbsup2

I'm "reading" (aka listening in my car) to Emma, which I haven't read before. I don't consider myself the average girly girl, and I never thought I'd like Jane Austen, but I must admit that I absolutely love those novels of hers I've read so far.

I started My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult yesterday. I was easily sucked into this book.

I've been reading Kelley Armstrong. I read Bitten, Stolen, Dime Store Magic, and Industrial Magic and loved them. Now I am in the middle of Haunted hoping that the next 200 pages will go faster than the first 200. This one is really bogged down and has a main character that I don't necessarily love. I may even give it back to the library so I can read Plum Spooky.

Good choice - I love John Irving (although his stuff is very strange). :thumbsup2

I just finished reading False Prophet by Faye Kellerman. Apparently she has a series of books with these same characters....I was completely sucked in. Highly recommend it.

I'm in line at the library for the new Wally Lamb and also Scarpetta. Looking forward to them.

Speaking of authors who kill off their main characters (ie Patricia Cornwall), does anybody here read Elizabeth George? She has ruined her series for me by doing that!!

Happy reading everybody!! :flower3:

Yes! I used to LOVE her books, but I cannot even tell you how upset I was after reading 'With No one as Witness". I know - it's just a book, they aren't real people, but still. I can't help it - I do get emotionally invested and she had such a talent for characterization. I'm no longer interested in reading any of her subsequent novels. Such a shame because it was a great series.

I'm between books now. I just finished 'The Reincarnationinst' last night. It was just OK. I find the idea of reincarnation fascinating and there aren't many novels that deal with the subject so I liked it in that regard. However, I hated the ending and felt as though it left me hanging with too many loose ends. I don't know yet if I'll bother reading the sequel 'The Memorist'.

Next up is "Down River" by John Hart.

I agree, I consider myself average and I am in love with her books! I love the language and romance!

I am just starting Pride and Prejudice. I saw the movie a few days ago and now want to read it :) I also have Kingdom Keepers in my stack.

I recently read Middlesex. It certainly wasn't a fast moving book, but it was interesting. I am glad that I finished it.

Glad you finsihed it.
Beause you didn't have to read it anymore, or because it was good, or just for the acomplishment.
It actually is beautifully written, I just don't think I can make it!!

Well, it was actually very intriguing to me. There were many parts of the book that made me really think.

It was a different read for me. Some days I didn't know if I wanted to continue, but I am not one to put a book down once started.

I won't say "you must finish it" because there isn't a real climax that makes the book stand out, but I definitely thought it was interesting.
