I just finished "Fairest of All" by Serena Valentino. It's the story of the Queen from Snow White. It's kind of like the "My side of the Story" books but more adult. I really enjoyed it. Serena makes the Queen sympathetic and even weaves in a bit of Maleficient's story (very briefly-like a cameo appearance). I love that Serena makes the Queen's dad a mirror maker and the Queen has some major "father" issues. I also like the happy ending. I am hoping that Serena will do some other stories about Disney villians- perhaps Maleficient since she referenced her. I highly recommend Disney fans check this one out.:cutie:

I just finished Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. I really liked it. I am now reading the second book in the DEXTER series (the HBO series is based on it).

Want to get the new Kathy Griffin bio... I've heard good things. Anyone reading it? opinions?

Sadly I was pretty disappointed in The Lost Symbol.

National Treasure 3 meets The Secret .... and then it gets even sillier.

I just finished reading The Lost Symbol and I enjoyed it.
I thought it was more suspenseful than any of the other Dan Brown Books as it seemed to me more plausible and less over the top than his other books.
I'm pretty much agnostic but I found the book (and especially the end)
uplifting.
I don't know if that makes any sense unless you've read the book.

And I always enjoy his books for the history and etymology they contain.

I'm about half way thru "Tapped Out", one of my cozy mystery/amatuer sleuth type books. Frankly it's just "Ehh". Next up is Kristin Hannah's "Firefly Lane", which was recommended.

I just finished Body Double by Tess Gerritsen. Great book.

I didn't realize it was part of a series either.

I am currently reading Extreme Measures - Author is Vince Flynn. Plot concerns the CIA and some of the tactics used to keep the U.S. safe from terrorist attacks.

I am in the middle of the book. Reading this has really caused me to think about the fine line between keeping America safe and treating detainees humanely.

Timely subject matter with the investigations of the CIA in the news today.

I just finished Life of Pi.

Now I am starting Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay

From Publishers Weekly
Starred Review. De Rosnay's U.S. debut fictionalizes the 1942 Paris roundups and deportations, in which thousands of Jewish families were arrested, held at the Vélodrome d'Hiver outside the city, then transported to Auschwitz. Forty-five-year-old Julia Jarmond, American by birth, moved to Paris when she was 20 and is married to the arrogant, unfaithful Bertrand Tézac, with whom she has an 11-year-old daughter. Julia writes for an American magazine and her editor assigns her to cover the 60th anniversary of the Vél' d'Hiv' roundups. Julia soon learns that the apartment she and Bertrand plan to move into was acquired by Bertrand's family when its Jewish occupants were dispossessed and deported 60 years before. She resolves to find out what happened to the former occupants: Wladyslaw and Rywka Starzynski, parents of 10-year-old Sarah and four-year-old Michel. The more Julia discovers—especially about Sarah, the only member of the Starzynski family to survive—the more she uncovers about Bertrand's family, about France and, finally, herself. Already translated into 15 languages, the novel is De Rosnay's 10th (but her first written in English, her first language). It beautifully conveys Julia's conflicting loyalties, and makes Sarah's trials so riveting, her innocence so absorbing, that the book is hard to put down. (July)

I've got a great book for everybody. It's call The Help I would suggest you get it at the library because it is only out in hardback.

It's about a small town in Mississippi during the 60's when immigration is starting. It's told from the perspective of both the white people who have maids and from the african american maid's perspective. It shows the close relationship some people had with their maids- like family and the kind of influence they had on the children they helped raise. It also shows some not so good relationships. I couldn't put it down.

That was one of my two favorites this year. Such a wonderful book. The other was The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo. I have the next one to read, just waiting for the right time.

Did you enjoy The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo? I was loooking at both it and the next one the other night at B&N, and meant to add them to my Kindle wish list and forgot!

That book really got to me. Don't know why, but it was just SO good. Not everyone's cup of tea. It's a page turner, but it's also beautifully written. It's a litttle bit more literary than your normal bestseller, but really sucks you in more than most literature. If that kind of makes sense. I've heard the second one is better than the first.

I just finished reading Hero by Perry Moore. This is a really enjoyable coming of age book about a gay superhero candidate. My comic book geek on the inside was able to enjoy the book with the grown up woman side.

I really like this book. It was a little different in the tone and setting than what I am used to and, because it was translated, it's just different in some way that I can't really describe. The setting for most of the story takes place, I think, in Sweden and, well, I've just never read a book set there and it took some getting used to for me. But I think it was a really good story/mystery. I've picked up the next book "The Girl Who Played With Fire" which is a continuation with one of characters in the first book.

Another DEXTER? what is the name of the Second Book? I haven't read "Darkley Dreaming Dexter" as yet..but hope to find it and read it.
