What Are You Reading Right Now?

I'm finally getting around to reading twilight!

I've gotten "sucked" into the Sookie Stackhouse series. At first, I thought it was too mindless for, coming off of Follet's "World Without End." Oh, it's still mindless, but I keep on reading!

Mindless, but also addictive.

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 Love the Sookie series!! Can't wait until next May for a new book.

I just started the first Maximum Ride book, it was a free download. :surfweb:

I saw that free download, but didn't do it. I read the one he did years ago (mutants)(adult, not Max Ride series) and didn't care for it. When JP gets weird I don't care for him (When the WInd Blows for example)

It's my first JP book. Thought I would give it a shot since it was free.

Free is always good, but if you really want to get a real feel for his writing skills before he became a slave to the almighty dollar, read Along Came a Spider his first Alex Cross book

Just started the first book in Karen Kingsbury's 5-book "Redemption" series a little while ago.. So far, so good..:thumbsup2

I'm reading a variety of titles by Mary Jo Putney. :thumbsup2I fell into her with "One Perfect Rose" that I picked up after seeing a recommendation in a Nora Roberts book. We have a fabulous used book store in town, and Mary Jo's books are readily available. I think I have 6 and can hardly put them down once started--I started Shattered Rainbows yesterday. If you like Nora, Sandra Brown, Eloise James, or Iris Johahnson novels, you'll love Mary Jo:worship:Any of her books contain a full listing of titles, some are series (characters across multiple books) but it's not manditory to read them in order like Nora's trilogies.

I just finished "The Picture of Dorian Gray". It left me feeling very unsettled. I'm glad I read it, as I can now cross it off the list of classics that I should have read in high school/college, but didn't.

Anyway, I'm now on to lighter reading. I'll be starting "The Lost Quilter" by Jennifer Chiaverini. I love her Elm Creek Quilt series, and this one goes along with the rest of them.

Tomorrow I'll go to the library to pick up the next 2 books on my list: "the Virgin Suicides" by Jeffrey Eugenides and "Bread Alone" by Judith Ryan Hendricks.

I'm off for a week of camping next week, so I need to stock up on books to take to read by the lake while supervising 5 children. Wish me luck!

Yeah, I read that "for fun" in high school. I'm a dork like that. I grew up to become an English major (for secondary ed), so I guess it makes sense. I sometimes will read books that I think I should have but somehow missed. I read "Night" by Eli Weisel for "fun". I am thinking I shoudl read "Jane Eyre" since I did a silly facebook quiz comparing us, and it said we were similar. Now, I don't really think it is valid, but it did remind me to read it!:rotfl2:

I am now in the 4th Sookie book and want to finish the series before the semester begins! I also want to pick up "The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane" soon.

You sound just like me! I tuck a "classic" into my "brainless" reading every once in a while. Just to make me feel good about myself.

You should try "Jane Eyre". I really enjoy it. It's a nice Gothic romance.

I guess I really need to try the Sookie Series. I've resisted and resisted, but so many of you are recommending them. Maybe that will be my camping/sitting by the lake reading.

I just finished Julie and Julia. I really didn't care for it at all. I think the movie might be better though.

I'm now reading South of Broad which is the new Pat Conroy book. So far it's great.

How'd you get a copy? That's not supposed to be out until next Tuesday!

I'm sorry you didn't like "Julie and Julia". We read it in our book club last summer, and I quite liked it. My friend, who hosted, made about 7 dishes from the cookbook for our discussion, and it was a yummy meeting.

I can't wait to see the movie. DH owes me a night out this Saturday, so I'm dragging him to see it. I don't think he'll mind too much, since Amy Adams is his celebrity crush.

I finished, Sleeping Murder, by Agatha Christie. It was really good. I didn't understand the title at first. Seemed strange. It was about a murder that was committed long ago and was well hidden. No one knew about it, thus, sleeping murder. I did guess the culprit with about 4 chapters to go. I wasn't certain, because there others and one of them seemed almost as likely.

I hadn't planned on reading another Agatha Christie, but I guess I got hooked into her books again. Now I'm reading, Crooked House.

So, the Constant Princess was Meh? Did you like any other Gregory books? I liked The Other Boleyn Girl, but struggled some with The Boleyn Inheritance. Maybe because I knew how it ended (same with other one I guess too, but it was juicier). I was thinking about The Constant Princess so let me know more.
I really liked The Constant Princess. It made me appreciate Katherine of Aragon so much more. I always pictured her as the thorn in Henry's side, but this book humanized her for me.

I loved When the Wind Blows and The Lake House. I've been trying to get my kids interested in reading those so they could start on the Maximum Ride novels. I haven't like the Maximum Ride books, so I gave up on that series. I think my kids would like them, though.

I was on vacation last week and I read The Virgin's Lover by Philippa Gregory and I'm halfway through Teacher Man by Frank McCourt. I love reading about Elizabeth I, so the first was a natural for me. The second is for my book club. I am finding it very good. McCourt's style of writing is very conversational. It's interesting to read about his experiences with HS students and compare it to my CCD teaching experience with 8th grade students.

Next up is The Other Queen by Philippa Gregory.
