The Sex Lives of Cannibals: Adrift in the Equatorial Pacific by J. Maarten Troost

I just finished it, it was GREAT!

I felt the same way. I was reading this book at 2 a.m., just crying my eyes out. This book made me laugh, cry, and reminisce. I didn't want it to end either. I gave a copy to my forever best friend. She loved it too.
Sounds like me..............I stayed up until after 1 a.m. crying my eyes out also. The tears were just running down my face on to my pillow. I finished it yesterday & immediately walked it over to my neighbors house & told her she MUST read it!

I agree Firefly lane is a wonderful book I didn't want it to end. I bought her new book that I will be reading next.
I didn't know she had a new book out. I will definitely be getting it.

"The Secret" by Beverly Lewis.

This is the 1st in her newest series, I love this author.

Finished the "Redemption" series by Karen Kingsbury.. Was about to start the next series that pertains to the Baxter's ("First Born") and found that one book hadn't arrived yet.. :( Darn! Hopefully it will come in the mail today..

So - I read "The Baby Swap Conspiracy" - finished that.. (non-fiction)

Read the first book of "The Courship of Nellie Fisher" series by Beverly Lewis last night ("The Parting") and started the next in that series: "The Forbidden".. Will likely finish that today and read the last in the series: "The Longing"..

Ordered some books by a few other Amish authors and I'm waiting for them to arrive in the mail.. Hope they're as good as Beverly Lewis! :thumbsup2

Did you continue on with the Baxter series? There's 2 more - "First Born" series (5 books) - and then "Sunrise" series (4 books).. I have them sitting here waiting to be read after I finish the "Redemption" series (5 books)..:thumbsup2 I purchased them all used - could never afford to buy that many new!:eek:

All total there are 14 books based on the Baxters and I just love it! It really bums me out when a "good" book ends - KWIM? :goodvibes

Oh, no, I didn't realize there were two other series! Will have to bug my mom and see if she has them. I borrow most of my books from her. She's like my own personal library. Any particular order that they should be read? Does First Born come after the Redemption series, then Sunrise?

Geek Love is like a trainwreck. I had to read it for a lit class and remember saying, "Just when you think it couldn't get more disturbing, it does". That being said, I did enjoy it. Did you get to the Bag Man yet? Creepy.

I loved Pillars of the Earth and just read World Without End this summer. They are quite the undertaking but went by fast and kind of take you to another world!

No, no bag man yet. I'm on Chapter 10. You have me very intrigued now! A creepy bag man... just what the story needs next, LOL! :thumbsup2

I can't wait to start Pillars of the Earth. :)

Just finished Firefly Lane by Kristen Hannah. I loved this book. I've put it on my favorites list.

If you've ever had a forever best friend, remember your teen years with your mom or are the mom of a teen daughter, then this book will really touch you.

I did not want it to end.

Oooooh, this is going on my "to read" list right now! Gosh, there just isn't enough time to read all these good books!!

Love Beverly Lewis too! There's another Amish author that I really enjoyed, but I'm drawing a blank to her name right now. I'll have to check with my mom next time we talk on the phone.

I just got Swimsuit by James Patterson. I was hoping to save it for my flight in Sept but I know I will be finished reading it by Monday. I love James Patterson.

I just ordered the last few Beverly Lewis books I haven't read.....

B&N online is very dangerous for me when I have something on my mind & feel very stressed.
I guess I could have worse addictions.

I'm reading a memoir by author Jen Lancaster. It's called "Such A Pretty Fat" and I have laughed out loud on numerous occaisions. I've read two other books by Lancaster and LOVE them. That, and these boards, have been my summer reading.

I just started reading Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult

Oh I LOVE this author!!

I'm reading one of the newest Dean Koontz novels. It's called The Darkest Evening of the Year. I'm about halfway through. It's pretty good, but I'm still trying to figure out what's going on. :lmao:

The best Koontz novel I've read is Intensity. OH MY WORD!!!! That book will never leave me, LOL!

There's always one in the crowd... :rolleyes1

Darker Than Night by John Lutz. I've just starting reading it and it's pretty spooky.

Thanks OP for starting this thread. I started with post #1 and have been working my way through to today's post. I've filled my hold list at the library plus have over 50 books on my wish list there. So many good books discussed here! Thanks to all for their contributions! :goodvibes

I agree 100%.............that book was incredible. I remember laying in my bed, heart pounding past 1 a.m. because I just had to finish it.

DH is not a big fan of fiction writing, but I told him he had to read that book. I think he finished it in 2 days! Incredible...........& I'm not a huge Dean Koontz fan.

YES!!!! Man, did my heart pound while reading that book! Only one word to describe it.... INTENSE!! :scared1:

Just finished reading The Thirteenth Tale. It was really good and right before the The Help. Both incredible books

Hi, everyone! I'm back from a week at a lake, camping with the family. Had some time to read, so I'll list what I read. Some good, some bad.

First was "The Virgin Suicides" by Jeffrey Eugenides. I really didn't like this book. It really didn't seem to have a point, and dragged a lot. It really wasn't a favorite of mine.

Next up was "The Hunger Games" by Suzanne Collins. I really LOVED this book! It was a real page turner! My SIL is an English teacher and wanted some input as to whether or not this would be a good book for her 9th graders. I gave it an enthusiastic YES! I can't wait for my daughter to read it!

Lastly was "Bread Alone." This was a very light, fun read. It was perfect to read by the lake! It was somewhat formulaic, but it meant that I didn't have to use my brain too much!

So, there you have it. My week of reading and relaxing. I was looking forward to coming home and reading "The Dive from Clausen's Pier", and "Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom", but that will have to wait until later tonight. My entire family came home with a stomach bug, and I'm in over my head in camping laundry, plus sick laundry.

Finished "The Courtship Of Nellie Fisher" series - by Beverly Lewis and yesterday the book I need to continue on with the Karen Kingsbury series (about the Baxter family) arrived in the mail..:thumbsup2

Now I'll get started on the rest of those - "First Born" series - (5 books) - then the "Sunrise" series (4 books).. Just can't get enough of that Baxter family!! :yay::yay::yay:

I just finished Firefly Lane also. I really liked it.

I am reading Off Season by Anne Rivers Siddon right now. I am enjoying it. I generally like all of her books.

I am reading Kushiel's Dart by Jacqueline Carey.

I just read Burn by Linda Howard - I thought it was good, ended like she was going to continue with a series or something.

Just started Fire & Ice by Julie Garwood.

I'm currently reading The History of Love by Nicole Krauss (its this month's book club selecton), its pretty good so far. Over vacation I read The Shack--I don't normally read religious themed books but this one was ok; I also read two romance novels by Lisa Kleypas--I love her. And the next to last House of Night book, now I need to go find the last one...
