I'm just finishing The Tower, the Zoo, and the Tortoise by Julia Stuart and I really enjoyed it. It's a subject with depth, but the tale is lightly written and the characters are charming. Next up is Cutting for Stone.

I finished reading The Memory Keeper's Daughter by Kim Edwards today. Such a sad story but I enjoyed reading it.

Just finished "Portrait of an Unknown Woman" by Vanora Bennett. This is a historical fiction novel dealing with the family of Thomas More, during the whole Anne Boleyn fiasco. I really liked it!

Next up, I need to get my hands on a copy of "The Telephone Gambit" for February's book club meeting.

I'm now on the third book in the Hunger Games series:worship: It really didn't sound like anything I would enjoy but thanks to the reviews it got here, I gave it a go. I was completely hooked and devoured the first two within in a week:banana:

So glad to hear that you are enjoying them and that you were pleasantly surprised. I was in your shoes not long ago. :goodvibes

I FINALLY finished The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest. I borrowed it from the lIbrary in early December, went on vacation and dind't get to finish it before the loan expired. I finally was able to borrow it again today and finished it over lunch. I'm sad that they are over. :(

I now have The Hunger Games from Amazon and In the Garden of Beasts: Love, Terror, and an American Family in Hitler's Berlin from the library. I really want to start The Hunger Games but I suppose I should read the one that expireso n 2/5 first. Has anyone read it?

Hidden Mickey 5 - Chasing New Frontiers is free right now for Kindle on Amazon.com. I haven't read any of them but thought I would alert my Dis friends! Synopsis is below.

"Product Description

Award-Winning, (2011 Silver Quill Award, League of Utah Writer's Annual Awards for Novel Manuscriptl), adult-level action-adventure mystery/love story about Walt Disney and Disneyland. (Age appropriate for 12 and up.)

After Blain Walters, a twenty-three year old charismatic Disneyland Cast Member, meets Missy Johansen, a beautiful, adventuresome Swiss visitor to Walt Disney’s Magic Kingdom, together the young couple stumble upon a very old wallet while exploring a secret location at Disneyland…a wallet whose owner, they discover, was connected to a brazen robbery at Disneyland many decades before—a robbery that had yet to be solved. In addition to a large sum of money, the unique and mysterious pendant of Walt Disney’s was also taken, a pendant that had just recently been recovered from a previous theft and subsequent paid ransom.

The owner of the lost wallet, Nathan Duncan, an unscrupulous landscaper at Disneyland, unexpectedly died while being pursued by Disneyland Security after he is suspected in the disappearance of the money and the seemingly predestined pendant. Duncan’s sudden death literally buried any chance of finding the stolen money or the priceless and legendary red-diamond pendant.

Forty-four years after Duncan’s demise, Blain and Missy discover that the found wallet literally holds the key to a trail of lost clues. Each deciphered clue, in turn, leads Blain and Missy on a quest to find interwoven pieces of a nearly half-century old puzzle, a puzzle that may reveal where the lost Disney cache is hidden.

Adding to the intrigue, Blain is unaware that Missy is in reality—and incognito—the rising international pop star from Switzerland, Malaysia Hosner, who has just kicked off her first U.S Concert Tour in Southern California. In addition to tracking down decades-old clues, Blain and Malaysia find themselves seeking to follow their hearts as they find a real connection with each other while delving deeper and deeper into this long-forgotten mystery.

How long can Malaysia keep her identity a secret? Where do the cryptic clues lead? Who else is seeking the long-lost Disney fortune? What kind of relationship, if any, can be forged through the adventure Blain and Malaysia share? And, what magic does the Magic Kingdom indeed have in store for the two passionate explorers?

Pursuing legendary treasure, discovering secret locations in Disneyland, and finding romance along the way, Chasing New Frontiers generates literary fireworks! Adventure, mystery, and intrigue await the reader in this new Hidden Mickey Mystery!

Enjoy this “E- Ticket” Adventure!"

Has anyone here read Island of Lost Girls by Jennifer McMahon? It sounds interesting, and I'm thinking of buying it for my Nook, but I wanted some "real life" reviews first...

I am reading American Eve which is a biography about Evelyn Nesbit. Its a strange, discomforting book that takes a look into the private and public life of Evelyn Nesbit (Gibson Girl) . Look her up!

Good to know! I think I will go for it...it is only

$2.99

how or where do you get them so cheap? i haven't wanted a nook or kindle partly because it seems like it just wouldn't feel right to not have a "real" book, plus i thought all books for these devices were at full price. :confused3 i'm too cheap and read too much to spend $40-60/month on books! i usually borrow books from my mom (she literaly has hundreds), which she buys used! lol

I have a Nook...I love it! I don't miss a paper book at all. I love that I can lay in bed, and hold it and turn the pages with one hand.

Anyway, there are a lot of free and sale books on the Barnes and Noble website. I have purchased most of the books I've read on sale (like under $5) or downloaded for free. You can also borrow from the public library with a Nook/Kindle.

I finished reading Eve by Iris Johansen this afternoon, ready to begin Quinn in a couple of days. I guess this is the beginning of the end of her Eve Duncan character.

Just finished reading "Hidden Mickey: Sometimes Dead Men DO Tell Tales" by Nancy Temple Rodrigue and David W. Smith.

Really liked this and reminded me of all the rides that are no longer at Disneyland. Can't wait to get the next one in the series. So far there are 5 books and I purchased the first one and got the fifth one free. It kept me interested right to the end.

I have a Kindle and get most of my books free from Pixelofink.com. They send out a daily notice of free or discounted books for Kindle and Nook. Another Dis'er gave the website ereaderiq.com as another place to get free or discounted books. On ereaderiq.com, you can link your kindle wishlist to it and it will let you know when any of those books hit the price zone that you want to be notified for. I really like Pixel of Ink. In each email it gives you the price plus the genre of the book. So if you are looking for romances, you can see all the romances that are either discounted or free for that day.

My DH gave me a $50 amazon gift card in October and I still have $16 left on it. Most of my purchases have been under $3 or free. I just checked and I purchased 13 books/items and the highest was $7.99.

Flew through "The Vineyard" by Barbara Delinsky.....
Quick, easy and light after the last freaky book I read. Love a happily ever after : )

Here is the blurb about it~

To her family, Natalie Seebring is a woman who prizes appearances. She is exquisitely mannered, socially adept, a supportive wife, and head of a successful wine-producing enterprise. So when she announces plans to marry a vineyard employee mere months after the death of her husband of fifty-eight years, her son and daughter are stunned. Faced with their disapproval, Natalie decides to write a memoir. There is much that her children don't know about her life -- about her love of the vineyard, her role in fighting to build it up, and the sacrifices she made for her family.

Okay! I need help in picking out a new book! I just finished The Help and after reading that amazing book, nothing else seems to compare or catch my interest.

Any suggestions?
