I just finished Shelter Me by Juliette Fay. I can't tell you how much I loved this book. I wanted to call into work to finish reading it. I stayed up until 3 am. It has humor, heartbreak, warmth. I laughed out loud and I sobbed so hard I needed four tissues. I LOVED this book.
I immediately went online to find other books by this author, and I was crushed to find that this was her first book. What?!? How can a newbie author write characters so well that they suck you in and make you think about them long after you have finished reading the book? She's writing another one apparently, but not fast enough!
Oh no, why do I read this thread...........it costs me more money at Borders or Barnes & Noble!!!!! Going to have to get this one.

I'm reading "God Is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything," by Christopher Hitchens and I'm enjoying it a great deal.

I read this too. I picked it up at the library on the new book shelf (a while ago) because I thought the cover looked interesting. I enjoyed it too~

I used to love to buy books, but it was one expense that got cut out of the budget. I get most of my books from the library now. I bet Barnes and Noble misses me!;)

Done with Dear John by Nicholas Sparks. I don't see it as a major motion picture, more like a made for tv or Hallmark movie.

Next in line is Lord of Chaos by Robert Jordan.

This last week I started and finished "The First Annual Grand Prairie Rabbit Festival" and "The Total Tragedy of a Girl Named Hamlet." The first book was just ok. It's not something I would recommend heartily. The second book I read on my 13 year old daughter's recommendation, and I really enjoyed it! It is most definitely a teen age book, but it was still written well, with engaging characters!

Next up for me is "A Long Way Gone" by Ishmael Beah.

I just got done reading Shanghai Girls by Lisa See. Right now, I'm reading Dana's Valley by Jeanette Oke. As a cancer parent, whose DS just hit his seven year cancer DX anniversary, this book really hits home for me and I find myself re reading it every year at about this time.

I also just got done reading The World We Live In by Susan Beth Pheffer. It was the last book in a series about a metoer hitting the moon and how two families dealth with the aftermath. I must say, this last book was a disappointment compared to the other two.

I finished Catching Fire late last night. Wow. Another book that took me on a ride. I think this one left me hanging more than The Hunger Games and now I can't wait for the third book. I think that The Hunger Games was better but it was still very good for a sequel.

I think Eat, Pray, Love and Committed are by Elizabeth Gilbert, not Elizabeth Berg, if anyone is looking for them.

I just read The Sister by Poppy Adams. Great and a little creepy story about two sisters who reunite after many years apart, and the ancestral home they were born in. Great especially if you like moths and butterflies!!

Someone else asked about Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet - it's in my virtual stack to read. A friend LOVED it and she has great taste in books that I also enjoy so her word is enough to cause me to buy a book.

I just downloaded the Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie and the new one by the same author, and sent a sample of The Broken Teaglass to my Kindle. They all look great!!!!

I went and looked over our new Half Priced Books store. So many books, so little time and even less money.

Right now the 4th book in the Spellman Files series by Lisa Lutz. I'm a little sad she's ending the series - but yay for her I heard a rumor she sold the movie rights.

I hope to have the new Mercy Thompson book on my Kindle tomorrow

Silver Borne, by Patricia Briggs

I gave up on Outlander after 300 pages...I know there are a lot of fans on this board, but I found it kind of corny.

Instead I picked up Michael Crichton's Pirate Latitudes. I feel like I am in the middle of the POC series! Just started it, but it's fun so far.

Got through the first 4 books in the Morganville Vampires series this week. Light reading but fun. :)

Just started "Beyond Recognition" by Ridley Pearson. Definitely not as much of a light read, but, it had me intrigued from the very first paragraph! :thumbsup2

There is a book discussion on the Podcast board going on right now for Pirate Latitudes. I don't know if it is too late to join, but here's the link:

I just finished A Breath of Snow & Ashes in the Outlander series. I saw the reviews here on the DIS for Outlander, and have been reading the books until last night. I thought it was a really good story.

Outlander Outlander, published in 1991, is the 1st book in the series. (Published as Cross Stitch in the UK.) This book introduces the main characters of Claire Beauchamp Fraser and Jaime Fraser, and is set in 18th century and 20th century Scotland. Dragonfly in Amber Published in 1992, Dragonfly continues the story and is set in 18th century Scotland and France, and 20th century America. The plot involves the 1745 Rising and the Battle of Culloden. Voyager Published in December of 1993, Voyager moves the story from Scotland to America, via the West Indies. Drums of Autumn Published in 1997, Drums of Autumn continues the series in America, beginning with 1767 Charleston through 1770. The Fiery Cross Fiery Cross, published in 2001, is set in the United States and covers the pre-Revolutionary War period from 1770 to 1772. A Breath of Snow and Ashes The 6th book in the series, A Breath of Snow and Ashes, was published in 2005. The book begins in 1772 and carries us through to the eve of the Revolutionary War. What's next? Diana has indicated that the Outlander series will end in 1800 ..... and that yes, there WILL be a happy ending.

I am starting the second book of the Sookie Stackhouse series. I loved the first one and can not wait to read the second. I was hoping to be done with more but that darn school work is getting in my way.

Right now I'm reading "Head over Heels" by Susan Anderson (I think that's the author's name). It's a little too racy for me. Yesterday I ordered some paperbacks from Amazon-can't wait til that bunch arrives! Gotta love that Super-Saver Shipping, but it takes a little longer.

Just wait until you get to read book #4... My personal favorite. I hope that True Blood does a similarly written topic.

OK, this is a thread I can really get into, I am a voracious reader. I am currently reading Bone Crossed by Patricia Briggs. I did not know there was a new Mercy Thompson book out, I'll have to look for it. Oh and I am also reading The Last of the Jedi #3 by Jude Watson. A young readers book, but I love my Star Wars and am trying to catch up on the timeline.

Slowly reading King's "Under the Doom". Good book. My problem is I don't have much time (like everyone else in this crazy world).

Feels like I'm only reading about 10 pages a day. At 1,100 pages, it should only take me about 110 days. :woohoo:
