Our son turned 5 in October. We gave him a Nintendo DSi and some games for his birthday. I'm struggling a bit for Christmas. I've bought him a few things already that I know he wants, but I'm running out of ideas. Just wondering what's hot, new etc. that I might be missing. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks!

DS just turned 6 on the third but his hot items were Kung Zhu, legos, anything Toy Story 3. He got how to train a dragon and the toy story 3 movie, he is into games like dont break the ice and hungry hungry hippos. I got him some learning things I found at Borders like Kumon books (simple sentences and math flash cards). Oh he is big into Iron Man stuff too which is funny because he has only seen a couple of the animated cartoons and none of the movies :rotfl: Hot Wheels, Trains....gah I guess really anything with wheels LOL good luck there is a ton of stuff out there!

DS will be 5 after New Year's. He's still ga-ga about trains, so we're getting him some of the Thomas Trackmasters, which are the motorized trains, and the new Chuggington ones. Stocking up on Playdough. He's into Legos but has a lot of Duplos already so we're going to buy those for now (they tend to be cheaper than the regular Legos).

Anything Toy Story in our house too. Hoping for good sales on the TSM and TS3 videogames (missed out on TSM at our Best Buy this weekend). Maybe something Phineas and Ferb themed if I find the right thing. He's not really into the action figures.

He's starting to notice/want the expensive toys, but when it comes down to it he's really not picky about what he gets, so long as he gets something. I think he'd still be happy with a big cardboard box at this point :rotfl:

Our munchkin turned five in October as well, and his favorites were a Playmobil set, a few Legos, Boat Basher for the Wii, and the pirate ship from Disney. For Christmas, he will get a "big kid" Lego set, a few add-ons for his Playmobils, and a few more Thomas trains. He may get a few more things, but it depends on what he asks Santa for Christmas! :santa:

DS turned 5 in August. He is asking for Big Foot (the remote control from Imaginext) and Kirby Yarn for the wii. I've already picked up the Playmobil zoo and coast guard boat set (He got a ton of playmobil for his birthday....he loves it!) and a mini trampoline for inside that has the handlebar. He got that two or three years ago and it got DAILY use from all my kids so it finally wore out. But they would always use it, so I think I'm going to pick another one up again. And also Screacher the dinosaur is big on his list.

Santa is bringing some, and my mom, SIL and sister are getting others. Also any marvel superhero figures I can find, along with the ToyStory 3 dvd.

HTH!

Gotta warn ya....Screacher is extrememly annoying. DS got it from MIL last year and I guess in some ways it's good that he is still going strong but WOW. Annoying.

I have two boys, 4 1/2 and almost 6 :) Big constant loves around our house is anything to do with trucks, cars, or balls.

And yes, ANYTHING TS3. They have buzz and woody already, but are asking for Jessie (I ordered her already, need to find either Bullseye or Zurg for the other one)

They're also both asking for pillow pets every time we go to the store, so I picked up a couple of those (wanted to get them early in case there was any issue keeping them in stock)

They're getting Mater, Toy Story 3, How to Train your Dragon, and Fantasia in their stockings.

Um... what else... Legos! I almost forgot the legos. We have a huge lego collection already though so they're not getting more :) Another big hit is just plain wooden blocks. The things they can build with those! Army men are another big hit. I picked up a huge bucket full at a yardsale over the summer and am always stepping on them...

My oldest also love his CD player in his room (yes, I could get him an mp3 player, but the CD player is cheaper and we have a big ole stack of CDs I can just burn them whenever I feel like)

And if all that isn't enough, a puppy? Mine love theirs :rotfl:

Really I think like the other poster said they're still pretty easy to buy for at this age. Almost any toy is fun!:santa:

How about outdoor toys? My 5 year old will probably get a sled this Christmas and maybe ice skates (not sure where you live, so that might not work for you! :)). He loves his soccer ball and shares a net that collapses with big brother. During t-ball season, we got him a tee to practice batting. Kid sized shovels, rakes, and a wheelbarrow are used a lot here, and sometimes even for constructive purposes!:rotfl: When his older brother was 5, we bought a Little Tikes kid climber for both of them for Christmas which still gets daily use almost 3 years later. His present when he turned 5 in April was a two-wheel bike. Good luck!

Our son is 5 and a half and his big thing is Star Wars (although he's never watched the movies). He wants the Clone Trooper Voice Changer Helmet and the Dart Blaster. Both of which I found on clearance over the year so we're good. I also have several easy reader books for him, a game for his Leapster, a Make Your Own Lightsaber kit (similar to what you find at Disney but with all the parts included and the same price as at Disney so he can mix and match on his own), several of the Ben 10 Bionicle action figures (he has Spider Monkey and it is great for building a lot of different things), set of 16 Treasury books, Star Wars Guess Who game. I think we're going to get him a basketball as well. Although he has a ton of balls and outdoor things so we're debating this one.

I hope that helps a lot. Check out the Ben 10 figures, they are sold with the Bionicles. I find them a lot nicer than standard legos. They stay together more yet they can still be creative.

we are the grandparents and as such, WE get to buy the NOT cool toys. We do books and wooden trains and tonka trucks and art supplies.

And now, thanks to wlake, we'll be getting him a sled for xmas since he now lives here in New England where it does snow instead of texas where you have to slide down fluffy hills of DIRT. Great idea, lake!

I am getting my DS5 some of the new Harry Potter Lego sets. I am also planning to get a few new Wii games, probably the Disney Sing It and Super Mario brothers.

My sons are 6 - 7 and they are getting:
Lots of legos - with a plastic storage system with drawers to store them - nothing worse than steping on a lego with bare feet.

An ice shanty - we live in Michigan on a lake and they love to fish.

A heater for the ice shanty

Beanz - start wars ones

Spy gear - they love it

New tackle box - again they fish alot

Some movies

A new sled

What they are not getting:

Any type of video game system. We don't have any any we are not getting any. I really strongly believe at this age children need to be outside playing or if they are inside using their imaginations. Video games have no place in our home.

My son just turned 5 in september

He asked for that game loopz

I am doing a "boy" dress up box full of Halloween costumes I got for 90% off at walmart. His sister is only 12 months older and they love to dress up and role play.

My mom is getting him a ds so I got him one of the mario games. Also grabbed Toy Story Mania for the Will for $20 on amazon.

I am not sure what else yet.. he has asked for a pillow pet and a buzz light year that talks. Hes also into the kung fu zhu-zhus

My 5yr old ds is asking only for Legos and Trio's, so Trio's and Legos he will get. I think Santa will bring the Trio Batcave and other family members will get other Batman ones to go with it, I have the airport tower and wizard's castle I found on super clearance at Kmart. We thought it would get easier when the boys (other ds is 9) got older and weren't into toys but it's actually harder! I kind of miss running from store to store searching for the I gotta have Galactic Heroes or Star Wars guys! They don't have the DS, we have an Xbox 360 but it rarely gets used...just for the ocassional hockey or Harry Potter game. Last year all he asked for was a drum set which Santa got him, so we got him a few Transformers which no longer get played with. He is very into music and art-type things so maybe I can find or make some sort of art/craft kit.

Glad I could help! :)

What kind of storage system are you getting? We have more Legos than you can shake a stick at and still haven't found a good system.

I got a 40% off coupon for JoAnn's and bought a nice 4 bin plastic drawer thing. The drawers are big enough hold all the legos and the square boards they build on. It is a white case with clear drawers.

Hope it helps :)

My little guy is getting a guitar, stand for his keyboard, legos, a sled. He also wants to learn to sew so I'll be putting together a sewing kit with some boyish fabrics, buttons, thread, big needles. Also, some star wars guys (he loves guys!) and maybe a Star Wars ship? Some wood pieces to put together with his tools. Oh, and a robe and slippers.

Mine will be turning 4 after Christmas however we are getting him a Toy Story bike from Toys R Us, Toy Story plush blanket, Toy Story dvd but dh already opened it for him and he's been watching it almost daily, Mega Bloks, Mr. Potato Head, Bey Blades to play with older brothers, and Leap Tag Jr. with some books. He is getting a train table and some Thomas the train wooden trains for his birthday which falls a little after Christmas.

My DS5 went through the TRU catalog and circled everything he wanted...which was just about everything! :rotfl: I'm reading through this thread to get some real ideas too!

My DS did that too!! and helped me by "clipping coupons" from it so I would know exactly what he wanted LOL It would have been easier for him to cross off what he didnt want :rotfl:

I am not sure if I mentioned Leapfrog Tag system in my other post. He got it last year but is adding more books this year. He loves it!
