My DS actually just turned 7 but due to his late birthday and some developmental issues just started kindergarten this year. He acts more like the kindergartners than other 7 year olds so we get him toys for that age bracket. He is getting:
Leapfrog Tag System (he has recently begun to show interest in actually learning - hooray! - but they don't have much homework yet. I'm hoping he will use these while big brother and big sister work on their lessons.)
Phineas and Ferb stuffed figures (P&F, Perry, Candace), 2 P&F shirts, the P&F DS game, maybe the Perry Christmas movie...all done up in the reusable Phineas and Ferb shopping bag which he can use as a tote bag later.
Mighty Beanz - 2 starter packs, and a flip track.
A dress up trunk - this is one item that topped his list. He has an old Spiderman muscled outfit that came from his older brother, he also has a fireman outfit, a Bumblebee from last Halloween and a Buzz from this Halloween. I ordered him Optimus Prime, Darth Vader, Han Solo, and the muscle suit versions of Batman Beyond and Superman. I need to find a couple of lightsabers to put in it. I want to find a cute, durable trunk to put it all in.
Playdoh - The big set with the storeage container and playmat. Also, a smaller one with cutters and rollers and a BBQ grill one. Playdoh is supposed to benefit fine motor skills, an area he needs work in.
Build A Bear - A bear, Buzz and Woody dress up outfits for it. This was another item on his actual list.
Hotwheels - Toy Story Cars, plain track to run as roads, a police car set and a storeage case. He has only recently cared about die cast vehicles.
He has asked Santa for: A race car (no), a motorcycle (no), dirtbike (no), go kart (probably not), and a treehouse. We are trying to make the last one happen because I would be really sad if Santa were unable to give him a big gift he really wanted. We've tried a Power Wheels motorcycle and he was very disgusted, the kid craves speed and danger, we won't go that route again.
From Nana - Perhaps a playmobil set. From Memaw - An RC Lightening McQueen and the Cars and Mater DVDs, he got Cars from Netflix, watched it four times, and now loves it.
