I have a unit at another resort (Harborside/Atlantis)... I am looking to get into DVC for 11/1/09-11/8/09. what do you think the odds are? what would be the best way about doing this?

as I understand it, I can put my Harborside week into II and call daily (from 7-8 months out?).

I can rent my week and rent points... would that be the better shot? how much should I expect to pay? Assuming 1 or 2 BR at Wilderness Lodge.

Any advice would be appreciated please!

If you rent points, you will be dependent on the DVC owner of those points to make all of your reservations and arrangements for you, which can be a bit annoying...especially if you like to feel you have some control over your own affairs. It's a possibility you can consider.

Your best bet will be if Dean, one of the moderators, notices your question. He is the guru of DVC vs timeshare questions, as he has lots of experience with both. After you have 6 posts, you can pm him, if you can find someplace where he has answered someone else's ?.

You are running into the Halloween parties, Jersey week, veterans day, Super Soap Weekend, so I'd say your chances for a trade wouldn't be that good. But you never know.

If you decided to rent a reservation from a member, make sure you talk to one now. And be careful, there are some unscrupulus people out there who are looking to take advantage of others. Doc had a thread on the Operations Board about one person. VWL is going to be very tough. Smallest DVC resort at WDW. OKW or SSR might be possible.

Have you thought about a trade on TUG?

I do have it listed on Tug.. and craigslist .. and Redweek.. and a few other places.

If you deposit and ned a 1 BR, you'd have an excellent chance of getting a week at DVC and a fair chance of getting something other than OKW or SSR. Depending on what/when you have, you might be better off renting it then looking to rent from a DVC owner, esp if you need a 2 BR or if something other than 7 days or a weekend start date is better for you. You could also consider request firsts depending on the dates of what you have. Another option is to deposit with II, get a bonus week, and try to use the bonus week to get into DVC, I'd say you have a 50/50 chance of making that work for a 1 BR or smaller, if you put the effort in to it.

Chance for a 1 BR is slim to fair if you search a full year out. The problem is that if you only list those resorts, you may get nothing. You must decide what's most important in this situation.
