What are the best kinds of sandals to wear in the parks?

I have to say for me, Birkenstocks can't be beat. I have never been to DW without my feet hurting until I wore my Birks. ::yes::

I've always been a tennis shoe person myself...can't beat the support.

However....

I just started researching the Dis site for advice on a sandal for the parks. I hate being wet and my kids love the water rides. I thought if I could start off the day with a good sandal, I could wait until we were done with the water rides and change into a dry tee shirt and my trusty tennies.

Keep posting about the sandals...I'm going to print this thread when I get ready to head to my local sporting goods store.

We like Nike Straprunners. My DH and I wear ours all summer long (and they do great in the parks). Two of my children have them, also, along with my sister. One of my boys has some Land's End sandals that he likes a lot--they are similar to the Straprunners.

I wish I could wear Birkenstocks, but my heels are to narrow. I have Merrells LOVE THEM, but they don't have a back strap and I worry about my feet getting tired.
My question.....
I bought some TEVA's today they are Greckos ($29 at DSW). The foot bed is made of a rubber or plastic (they call it Microban). I'm concerned that this might be uncomfortble after a whole day of my foot rubbing it. Does anyone wear these? Do you find this uncomfortable or does it cause blisters?

I bought some Tevas about 10 years ago. The bottom of the shoe was textured, and it hurt my feet. I gave them to my sister (who is much younger than me) and they hurt her feet too. I never get blisters but I guess I am a real tenderfoot when it comes to a textured footbed.

I had some Mephisto sandals that I thought were great but I could not walk in them for long periods of time. I love my Birkenstocks - I've walked miles and miles in them - have even worn them to Curves to exercise.

I have some AWESOME teva-like Nike's that I absolutely LOVE...I ran a summer camp last summer and I wore them everyday. They are great in water and even for doing lite climbing. They are very comfortable and offer excellent support. I bought them at our local Champs sporting goods store.
One small glitch, beware of the teva-tan. I don't know how many other people have experienced this, but I still have tan lines from my Nike's from last summer...pretty funny for everyone else.

I love my Teva's!! I can walk all day in them and not have that "my feet are killing me at the end of the day". I have the Women's "Spoiler". Not the most expensive Teva ($55) but water proof and can be found at Rack Room Shoes and Sports Authority.

I have tried on a similar sandal by Columbia $40 and Nike $40 and they feel as good on the try on, just have not walked in them. If I can't find the Tevas in black I might give the Nike a try.

Another die-hard Birk person here. I bought the soft footbed ones, and they are like slippers. They are the only shoes I like to wear at WDW.

DH loves his Nike Straprunner V's (very TEVA-like, but more give and flexibility in the straps). I tried them on in a few places, but just couldn't find the right fit for my foot; one size felt too small, next size up just too big (wish they made sandals in 1/2 sizes!).

I found a great pair of North Face Torrent Convertibles in EMS, very similar to the Straprunners, only BETTER; they're the color of Eeyore!:sunny: Oh, yeah, and they're convertible (can take off the heel strap and make them slides)...AND they FIT!

AND they're the color of EEYORE!:Pinkbounc

thanks for all the ideas...keep them coming. I still like the idea of the land's end water sneakers. I haven't seen any complaints on them yet. If anyone knows anything more about them tell me!!:bounce: :hyper: :sunny: :wave2: ::yes::

Wow lots of Teva fans....I've never even heard of them.

Me I'm good to go on your basic flip flops!::yes::

I haven't heard anything about the Keen Newport H2 sport sandal. I have a high instep and none of the Merrells or Teva's look like they would work for me. I will never get the straps to reach over my enormous foot.

Anyone have these Keen Newport H2's?? How do you like them? They have a bungee lacing system which sounds ideal for a someone with a high arch like me.

Also, the Birkenstocks...Are they comfortable wet?

Do leather instep sandals (like Doc Martens) just get gross from sweat? I usually wear tennis shoes but no socks sounds good for 100 degree 100% humidity days. I don't have any walking sandals that aren't leather instep so I was just wondering....

I cannot wear Teva's or Columbia's or Berkenstocks...they ALL kill my feet! I guess I will just keep wearing my New Balance's that I have worn for the past 3 years!

I have to have tennis shoes and socks, cotton ones. When I go on Kali River, I stop, slip on the flip flops, ride, dry my feet and the tennis shoes and socks go right back on. Flip flops weigh nothing and will easily slide into my fanny pack (oh yeah, I'm a size 4).

Miss Park Avenue,
My DH has these and loves them. He has the Newports not the H2's, but his do have the bungee lacing. The only difference I think is the material. His are nubuc and I believe these are made of a nylon. The ones he has are great. Inside the leather, against your foot, is a stretchy material (like Merrell uses). He's says best shoe he has ever had!

Thanks Lisa AF!

I need to find them soon. I want to try them on before I buy because my feet are so hard to fit. If they dry fast I may skip the tennis shoes alltogether. Who wants to lug around two pairs of shoes? Although iwannabeminnie's idea of taking a pair of flip flops just for the water rides sounds just as good.

Thanks for all the ideas!

I bought Teva's for my August trip. I read the thread about how to adjust them so they really fit. I still ended up with blisters.

Someone mentioned the footbed being rough. It really was! But that honestly didn't bother me too much. It rubbed a bit when they were wet, but no blisters or soreness from them.

I think I just have really sensitive feet. My DF got a pair of $15 sandals from Kmart and he had no problem wearing them every day all week.

I do like the flip flop suggestion. I think I have to wear tennis shoes, but I'll take flipflops along for rain.

could you find the thread about the Lands End water sneaker? I was thinking about buying them because they looked comfortable. If I wore socks with them do you think they would be o.k. for Disney World?

Doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose of being able to get them wet?
