What are Packing Cubes?

I saw the Eagle Creek in Container Store but thought they were too pricey. Thanks to this thread, Ebags got another order. I bought a value set for each of us (so we are all color coded), a suitcase scale and a passport wallet that holds 4. Used the code, cheaper then free shipping.

Newbie cruiser here, so we can keep the clothes in the cubes and just put the cubes in the statesroom drawers right? For instance, when I am looking for DD3's clothes I can just look for her grasshoper colored cubes. Is that the idea?

Thanks to all my fellow OCD packers!! :thumbsup2

So what makes these things so great? Seems like they are just small suit cases that you pack a few things in, and then put these into a large suit case.
I don't see how it saves any space since you are now taking up some room with these cubes.
Is it just that it helps you keep things organized?

My packing cubes arrived yesterday. Much thinner than I expected. Now the challenge of figuring out how to fold/roll the clothes to pack them. That is where I am getting confused!

I am a HUGE New Fan of Ebags. Received mine yesterday too. I am an overpacker and with purchasing 2 Sets of sm,med,lg and a large pocket I am able to fit into a 28 inch duffel bag. I was amazed. Otherwise, I would need at least another bag, meaning excessive luggage fees. Great product. 5+. They are not very thick but can fit a lot of clothes. My large pocket was able to fit 5 skirts/skorts and approx 10 tops. I used a link from 1st page, 2nd poster and received 70% off and free shipping. My advice buy them!

They help keep things organized, but they also help with space issues a bit as they do end up compressing items if you pack the cube full before zipping it shut. The cubes themselves are usually made of a thin ripstop nylon or mesh fabric, so they're not bulky enough to take up the space that they end up saving you.

For me, it's worth it to have things like all undergarments and socks in one cube, tshirts in another, and then all electrical chargers, batteries, etc. in a third. Jeans/trousers/pants usually just get folded on their own and placed into the suitcase. But either way, it's much easier to get what you actually want from your bag without digging through layers of different items to find it.

Am I missing something or could you do the same thing with large Zip Loc bags? While the cubes are neat and all, I'm all about saving time and money.

These sound interesting. I am constantly amazed by what I learn from these boards! Thanks OP for a great question!

There is only so much that you can fit in a large zip lock bag. I just got my packing cubes for ebags.com and now I am obsessed! I was able to squeeze 15 pull-ups for my son into one of the narrow bags. I was also able to put my hanging shelves, over the door shoe hanger, alarm clock, extension cord, laundry bag, night light, and mirror in a large bag. I put 3 pairs of water shoes in a small bag (and still have room for more). I could go on and on! What I like the best is being able to keep cruise items separate from my WDW stuff, so I won't have to dig through everything to get what I need. I just ordered more!!!

I previously used zip lock bags, but did not have good luck with them. They wouldn't stay closed. When we arrived at our destination, half the bags were no longer sealed. Even the ones that made the trip sealed weren't still closing by the end of the week.

What is the large pocket? I didn't see that on the ebags website. Is that larger than the large packing cubes?

Did a search and this is what I found: http://www.ebags.com/travel_accesso...-rIX10qLqGo_9-YgmJ5LK4l1ekSVWElQETZLAWpQAFoQA

Learn About Packing Folders/Cubes
Packing folders and packing cubes protect your clothing from getting wrinkled during travel. They also assist the traveler in fitting more clothing in each piece of your luggage. Packing supplies can be clothing specific for shoes, suits, small or large items. These items are often in fun colors with mesh sides or tops so you can easily recognize the items within each folder or cube.

What is the large pocket? I didn't see that on the ebags website. Is that larger than the large packing cubes?

No, it is a Pack-It Folder, I bought one made by Mosaic but it is gone already. This large folder, comes in different sizes and gives you an ability to pack larger items, up to 12-15. In mine I was able to pack 6 outfits and a dress. Very expandable. Check it out!

OP: I got my first (of two) shipment from eBags already, and can't wait to try them out. I wish my trip was sooner than December in fact :-)

I like these so much that I ordered more last night, including the toiletries bag.

:thumbsup2 I agree. Plus, you can't fill them up the same way to make all the clothes the exact same size when folded. Also, I find that they are too slippery and keep sliding around instead of staying in place.

Hey Sand, where is the passport holder?? I didn't see that on the website.

I have been searching for colorful passport covers to color code our 4 passports. I like the Baekgaard brand, pretty lively colored leather. She is business partners with Vera Bradely. So, on ebags.com I came across them after searching for passport covers. Instead of buying 4 at $21 each, I bought the travel companion that hold 4 passports for $30.

Hope this helps! :goodvibes

I placed an order with ebags Thursday, got an email my order shipped Friday. WOW! I asked them about more packing cube colors and the rep said in 4-5 weeks they should more colors available. Just wanted to let y'all know.
