What are Packing Cubes?

I find it extremely ironic that part of my cube order arrived a few days ago in a box 10 times bigger than they were! It was totally bizarre! I'm excited to use them! I too wish I had ordered 2 of the value packs of 6 for $36(?) when they were available instead of 1.
Oh and I got a good tip from a friend that travels for business a TON. She said put a few dryer sheets in your luggage to help w/ the "funk" that happens once you get dirty laundry in there. Even when it's kept separate, put one in that bag as well. She uses Snuggle almond vanilla sheets. I'm going to go looking for them since I don't use the sheets in the dryer anymore.

I thought the box size was kind of bizarre too. Mine was stuffed with really really really long brown packing paper that is quite unwieldy to deal with. Can't wait to try to pack with the cubes!

Hi Everyone

Ok there are 5 of us. I usually try to pack my 4 yr old's stuff with my 12 yr olds stuff. My 15 yr old, me and DH get our own suitcases.

They are all 29" rolling duffels. After the year of pulling out my clothes for overweight luggage and undies falling all over....I invested in these lightweight ones.

Anyhows....this is my thinking.....

Luggage size 29" x 15" approx. and room for give.

I'm thinking for my 4 and 12 yr old get 9 medium cubes from ebay. they should fit exactly in their luggage.

Ours....for each of us....1 20" fold it and 3 medium cubes. Leaving room on top of the Fold-It for shoes.

I've been going a bit bonkers trying to figure out the best configuration.

Anyone that uses this size luggage and the cubes....I'd appreciate the suggestions!

I'm math impared so I just ordered a a few 3 pack sets and will figure things out w/ something in hand. Then I'll order more. With eBags, most of shipping has been free for me.

For those of you have used the packing cubes....Our trips (family of 4) are at least a week--and our carry ons tend to be filled with electronic devices for kids...so just carry ons aren't possible. Won't I be tempted to put too much in the packing cubes and make my checked bags too heavy? (I am intrigued by the organization and being able to "unpack" at my destination by just removing the cubes from the suitcase!)

Maybe/probably but if you weigh it before you go you'll have a good idea of where you stand. (We're the same as you. family of 4 and longer trips) I'd also recommend buying one of the handheld scales to travel with as well. I'll NEVER have to pack and repack in the terminal again. UGH! That was a scene! I always expect to come home heavier (luggage wise as well as rear-end size ) so just weigh things before you go and if you are already heavy them you know you either A: need to unpack something or B: pack a duffle to bring with to be an extra checked bag on the way home. We can't ever go either w/o at least a few checked bags. Too many restrictions on carry-ons.

For anyone contemplating....ebags is having 20% off ends midnight tonight the 14th. I bought medium packing cubes for my 2 youngest to fit in one rolling duffel bag.

For myself, oldest son, and DH, I bought 3 med packing cubes and 1 20" pack it each. We will each be using 29" rolling duffels.

I hope this really works and is worth it lol.

Where did you find the passport wallet for 4? I have been searching the ebag website and can't seem to find the item you mentioned. Would be grateful for any info you could give me.
