What are my options?

My DS, age 8, and I are heading to WDW in 3 weeks. This is the first time it's been just the 2 of us. Unfortunately, my son does not like most rides. While I am not a daredevil I do like TOT, Space Mountain, Thunder Mountain and a few others he won't go on. Will a CM watch him while I ride. Of course we would wait in line together and then he would wait at the exit while I rode. Is this a possibility at all? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I do not believe that a CM is allowed to take responsiability for watching your child while you are on the ride. That is why the child swap is set up so one adult stays with the child and then the second adult rides while the first one stays with the child.

It is tough situation if you are only one adult traveling alone with a child but the rides that you describe above exit in a different place from where they load and I just do not think that Disney would want to take on the liability of being responsiable for someone's child.

Unfortunately - I don't think this will work either. Is there an e-ride night when you are going - this might be the best option for you - you could bring your son to the Neverland Club at the Poly or the Mouseketeer Club at the CR, and then spend a little alone time at MK at the e-night.

Otherwise, you may have to forgo the thrill rides this trip. My middle daughter doesn't like the big thrill rides either, although the last two trips - she's braved Test Track and Space Mountain - she always would do Big Thunder and Splash. Tower of Terror and Rock N Roller Coaster are still a no go. Luckily - she is older - she was 12 1/2 when we went - she went through the lines with us - then used the chicken exit and waited in the gift shop - all big rides exit into a gift shop!! We did use 2 - way radios - but she was definitely older than 8!

Good Luck with your trip - and maybe you'll find that your 8 year old is more daring than he used to be! Just don't force him to try something he is truly scared of - and maybe next time - he'll be ready!

I personally would not even consider allowing a cm at a ride to watch my child. I would not leave my child with a perfect stranger at home. Just look at the children recently molested in family friendly stores. The people that work in disney's child care areas have extra screening and training to work with the children. An average cm on a ride could be anyone. It's a tough situation, I hope you can work something out so you both have a fabulous time.

Thanks so much for you input. We will stay away from the "scary" rides and stick with his favorites. I know that no matter what we are going to have the BEST time.

BTW, this board is the greatest. I learn so much every time I am planning my trips.
