What are my chances April 9 Week?

DH and I sat down and looked at our summer schedule(both of us are in education) today. We had originally planned on doing something different and visiting a beach this summer, possibly HH or Myrtle Beach and then visiting some NASCAR race shops. However, when we sat down and looked, by the time we factor in baseball season, swimming season(DS is on both teams) and our own work( school starts next year on Aug 1 )we have no time to travel this summer. SO, we now have a reason to have Spring Break fever. But it lands the week after EAster this year. We will have to rent points, as we have an Oct trip planned as well....but is there any chance of us getting a 1 bedroom anywhere on site? I would like to go ahead and explore the rental possibilities and transfer points but since it's Sunday I can't call MS....and we are now so excited I want to find out something so I"m hoping all you guys can give me some info!!!!

There were one bedrooms available at SSR and OKW for a day or two in that time frame last Monday. Like 2 nights in a row at SSR towards the weekend, etc, but no 3 night strips. It doesn't hurt to try, but wow! I thought I booked late! I would call CRO and book something quickly if I were you with the cancellation and then check out a possible DVC. You might get lucky. I used my DVC points to book a cabin...that worked for me but it's pricey pointswise.

LOL, yeah, we tend to decide on Spring Break plans at the last minute. Last year we were in a Cracker Barrel on the other side of Atlanta finalizing our plans!

However, this year we may be out of luck. THe last two years Spring Break didn't land on Easter week like it does this year.

I think your chances are pretty poor. In addition, other owners might not pay any attention to your rental request as they would think it was an effort not likey to pay off. Since you are planning on paying real money anyway (gasp), have you thought of trying for an offsite (gasp, gasp).

Yeah, we've thought about staying off site. And might go that route....just don't know. Dh's been wanting to try out Hard ROck hotel. It's not a "have to" trip....just a "want to", and we know we're going in Oct. so it's not a huge deal.....I just got excited when we were talking about it this morning. DD(2) has been talking about seeing Mickey Mouse for months so I was excited we could take her earlier than Oct.!We've always had good luck in the past because we were flexible with where to stay, but, like I said....maybe not so this year, oh well!

I can tell you what happened to us last year when we decided to take a very, very last minute trip...

I decided on Saturday of the week before Easter (which was our Spring Break week last year) that I really wanted to go. I don't know what came over me, but I became very spontaneous and said "What the heck, let's go !!"

I went ahead and booked plane tickets for that upcoming Wednesday, so I had all of 4 days to put the trip together. I called CRO many, many times over that weekend to book something for us in case I couldn't get anything with DVC come Monday morning. I dealt with some awesome CM's at CRO that gave me great advice on when to call and how to catch cancellations that were released. Long story short ... believe it or not, by Monday morning, I was able to book a standard room at Riverside for the entire week to have as my backup plan in case I couldn't get anything through DVC.

Called DVC Monday morning and said I would take absolutely anything they were able to give me. They had me transferred directly to the Boardwalk because it looked like they might have some availability. By Tuesday, I was able to get 4 nights in a row in a 1BR at BWV for the first part of the trip and kept 3 of the nights I had booked at Riverside and we had an amazing trip !!!

Cancellations happen all the time ... all day long, every day. I am sure you can put something together like I did. Just be prepared to spend lots and lots of time making phone calls and be flexible. I was willing to move around alot if necessary.
