What apps are a must for the droid?

I just found the app "Shush" which automatically asks you when you want to turn your ringer back on after you put it into vibrate mode, in case you forget to turn ringer back on.

In the same vein, "Wheres My Droid?" allows you to text your Android phone from another, and it will turn on the sound, set it to full, and make noise so you can find it...

My husband is getting droid x next week. I have a palm pre and Mobile Magic is not available for that. Is this app available on droid x?

No. Nobile Magic is not yet available for any "smartphones", old or new. It only works on a large subset of the Verizon "BREW" platform phones, which is pretty much anything from Verizon that doesn't run Windows, Palm, Android or Blackberry.

Thanks for the response.

DS and I are probably getting Droids next week. How does one go about putting our custom ringtones on the droid?

Well there is the usual download methods, plus it can take pretty standard mp3s that you can transfer onto the memory card via USB cable (or take hte memory card out and put it in the computer) or via other file transfer apps if you are a bit more technically inclined.

Make sure you get a microSD card with it. Don't know if they come with one offhand. When Froyo (Android 2.2) is released, you'll be able to store the apps on the microSD card as well.

I have a microSD with my env. I know I can't put music on my sd card on the env and use it for ringtones. It won't recognize it in the ringtone folder and won't allow me to save it as a ringtone.

I know you CAN have them on the card in an enV (that's what I had before the droid), but I don't think it was easy to get them copied on there...you also have to tell the enV to explicitly use the SD card.

With Android I think you can organize it any way you want - it scans the card for all the files. At least I haven't found logic to where they were.

As long as the file is anything but WMA (the copyrights managment is a nightmare) use a program called

Ringdroid-- Drag and drop songs to your phone, cut and slice how YOU want them.

A couple programs I have run across:

Camera Magic
Picsay
CardioTrainer/weight loss trainer (paid)
Ringdroid
Word UP <--- warning addictive :surfweb:
Frozen paper
Toss it --->it never gets old throwing paper in a bin
Mabilo Wallpapers
FAcebook
EEBA <--- 5 envelope for budgets. Using this on my vacation AWESOME
Meridian <-- better mp3 player than stock
Handscent-- for all txt msging. You can customize EVERYTHING
Weather bug (free)
TV listing
WdW Lines

local tv station

I love my apps. I'm not saying these are must haves, but I enjoy them.

BistroMath
Calorie Counter
Dictionary.com
Google Earth
Laputa (it's an e-reader and has tons of books including Charlaine Harris, JR Ward etc)
Pandora
Photobucket
Ride Hopper Lite (great for non-Disney parks)
Runstar
ShopSavvy
Stitcher (podcast playing thingy - just search DIS)
Starbucks Card (to check the balance of my starbucks gift cards)
Stock Alert (I'm a geek)
WDW Lines (requires a membership to touring plans - maybe $10 for a year)
PDAnet (to tether my laptop)
Yahoo for Android
UrbanSpoon

New to the Droid. Can you tell me how to go about getting the WDW Lines app and subscribing to the touring plans?

Go to the website and subscribe, its easier than doing it on the phone. Download the app and then sign in and you'll have full access vs. limited if you aren't signed into the app.

All are good that have been mentioned.

The one thing I would recomend is using google voice as your voice mail. Get a new number from google voice and only hand out the google voice number when you regester or do business.

Within google voice it gives you lots of control over who can reach you and how. Pluse you can read your voice mail instead of listening to it. (most of the time - can't handle mumblers or thick accents) - You can still listen if you want.

I am so glad this thread is here. I just ordered a Droid X last night. Only problem is it probably won't get shipped until 8/31. They said it might come earlier but don't count on it.

Go ahead to google and set up your calender, and google voice with your contacts and gmail if you use it. then when you get your phone it will all be there instantly

I will do that tonight when I get home. Anything I can do to get a jump on the setup.
