What age would you let yourself "go gray"

I think every woman looks younger with dyed hair. I also think every man looks younger when they shave off their moustache.

If you don't care about looking younger, then I guess it doesn't matter.

I also think that you should choose between a full head of grey and a full head of color. No half and half. When those roots are growing out grey and the rest of your hair is brown, it justs appears that you don't take enough pride in your appearances to keep it up.

THis is a rather timely thread!

I am currently going "natural". I have had gray hair for years and years and have dyed my hair since about age 29. (LONG TIME!).
I recently decided to try and let it grow out. I had a heavy highlight which then added "platinum" toner. It is not white, but it is blending. If you look closely you can see my white/gray outgrowth, but the heavy highlight has 'blended' it pretty well. I am pretty excited. I figure it will take about a year to get it all the way grown out, but I have started the process.
I worried about looking "old" too, but I am getting old so there you have it! haha. I figured I would always be able to dye it over if I hate it.

My hairdresser and I discussed when to go gray. Her advice was to continue coloring until about 60% of your hair is naturally gray, then transition to gray.

For my sister this would have been when she was in her early 20's!

I am 68 (be 69 in a few weeks.) I let my hair go grey naturally. I have silver around my face and a darker grey in the back. I am not worried about looking old.....I am what I am. If people judge me by my looks and not by who I am, so be it.

I like your attitude !!

Started noticing some grey around my hairline about 3 years ago, i'm 56 now. I am a natural redhead and I have the roots retouched every 4 months or so. Sometimes longer. My Mom was 71, lost her hair to chemo and it came back strawberry blonde! My Dad is 94 and still isn't completely white. guess its heredity.

I plan to "go grey" whenever my hair changes. I'm in my early 40s and have already had a grey streak for several years that I've never colored.

I don't want to mess with it for a couple of reasons: First, my hair is very fine and damages easily. I always figured the chemicals would make it worse. Second, I once added up how much it would cost to start coloring and keep it up for years, and :scared1: - I just couldn't do it.

I really don't think grey hair is anything to be ashamed of. I am the age I am. Maybe it's because I have good memories of ladies with grey hair - both "old" and not-so-old. I remember the mother of one of my good friends in school being grey early, and she was just one of the most serene, content people I've ever known. I'd be happy to be like her.

DH's grandmother was a hair stylist so she kept her hair colored until she could no longer do it herself (probably in her 90's) then continued to have it colored til she was bed-ridden in assisted living. When she passed away at nine days short of 109, her daughter (my DMIL) had the dearly-departed's hair colored one more time so she could look "natural" at the funeral.

I just want all mine to turn silver so I can get bright purple highlights :thumbsup2

Plus to celebrate my all silver status Im getting my first tattoo woo hoo

Presently 40ish with the silver streaks to line my face and still dying it dark chestnut brown. My dad is all silver in his 60s my mother still has silver streaks around her face in her 60s. Looks like Ill have to wait long while.

I'm 48 and just started dying my hair. I think my mom went grey late too. I'm dark brown, so I have to dye it. I don't see me ever not dying it. I have only about 20 greys, but they're all at the top of my head and really, really show, so I'm dying all of it for just those few hairs, but I have to.

Some of these zombie threads are really fun!

My two cents: I dyed my hair for several years when I was in my thirties. But, now that I'm forty-something, I've decided I like the multi-tone, salt-and-pepper look. My husband really likes it, too, and actually he's the main reason I quit colouring it. The silver's gone all shiny mixed in with my normal dark brown/black and my ends are now shading to blonde. It's a lot of fun and I get quite a few compliments on my hair now - far more than I ever got when I was colouring it.

I guess I always wanted stripes, I just didn't know it! :thumbsup2

I'm a guy that will be 62 next March. I have gray around the temples and in the back, but I use the 5 minutes color about every three weeks. The gray does not bother me as much as the thinning on top. But hair transplant is too expensive to me, so I won't worry about that. The gray I will keep covering up until......

I have some greys mixed in with my hair now and I don't care. I'll never dye it, when it goes it goes. Personally, I think it looks awful when an older lady has that fake red/orange hair.

Zombie thread. But it occurred to me while reading this that I don't even know if my hair is grey. I've been bleaching it, highlighting it, coloring it, etc. since I was 13 and discovered that hideous blue-black hair dye. My grandmother went to the hair salon up until the week she died (in her 90s). My hair is falling out due to hypothyroidism and stress, so I suppose I'll be bald before I have to worry about a full head of grey hair.

I started going gray in my early 20s. In my 40s now and dont plan to stop anytime soon. In DHs family, all the men have a full head of thick grayless until their late 70s

I was born a blonde and naturally my hair was getting darker as I aged. I now have grey roots growing on highlighted blonde hair(professionally done about every 4-6 months) because that's what I can afford. I make it work by wearing my hair in a ponytail or headband. I'm not going to go completely grey yet (in my 50's) and I used to dye my hair until it needed highlighting so I enjoy the treat to get it done for $90.

Having said that if my DH would say go grey I think I would try to do that but he likes it highlighted.

I'm 66 and I keep hoping my hair will turn gray. So far, not much luck with that.

I started going gray in my late 20,s , and let it go, but Im a man and we dont get old, we just get more sexy :rolleyes1
