Does anyone know how the childs fare goes. I thought I read before if the child is on your lap you are not required to buy a ticket. I have friends flying with little ones and were curious. Thanks.

A lap child must be under 2 years old. Any child who has passed their 2nd birthday, will have to purchase a ticket. Also, there is a limit of one lap child per adult ticket purchased.

Before deciding not to buy a ticket, you need to check with the airlines to see what their rules are now. I remember reading many months ago that airlines were going to do away with the under two rule and require that a seat be purchased. As I do not have any small ones anymore, I have not followed up on that story.

My son will be 2 yo when we fly. Every different site I've gone to, to check flight prices/reserves etc...asks how many kids will be traveling and their ages.. the results always have DS in his own seat because he's over the age of 2.

If your child is under two, but large for his/her age I recommend bringing a birth certificate copy.

Actually, I recommend if at ALL possible each child have thier own seat. It is dramatically safer and LOTS more comfortable. Airplanes are flying fuller since there are less flights and that means there may not be an empty to seat to put the child in on your flight unless you paid for it.

Actually, most airlines require a BC. Many times they don't ask to see them, but, I would take it just in case.
