When my kids were little we put them in their big kid beds at age 2. Looking back I think we rushed it.

My DGD is 2 1/2 and still in her crib. She doesn't climb out (well except that one time :)) and is doing really well there.

My DD occasionally talks about switching her to a toddler bed but I am trying to convince her to wait. Found that they don't take naps as well when they can get out and start playing.;)

What age did you move your kids out of their cribs?

my eldest was a month or 2 shy of age 2 (I had twins coming and was already buying one more crib, I wasn't about to buy 2 more!). it worked beautifully and we ended up moving the twins out when they had just turned 2.

for us it was the perfect choice. did not have a problem with naps. although honestly when I first moved them into big kid beds, I cleared most toys out of their room for several months so they weren't up playing.

for all 3 we went to twins. never did the toddler bed thing

I moved both of mine to toddler beds between 2 and 2.5. Neither of mine really had an issue with the switch. I, of course, had to have a gate up at their door (otherwise I'm sure they wouldv'e been out) but they stayed pretty well in their beds. My dd is 2.5 and she'll occasionally get out of bed and get a few toys and take them to her bed, but she seems to sleep fine to me.

My daughter was 19 months (getting ready for her new baby to come) and my son vaulted the side at 15 months and had to be pulled out.

One of my boys was happy to stay in his crib till 3. The other was done after he climbed out repetitively just under 2.

Both of my kids climbed out around 15 months and were in a toddler bed shortly thereafter. I would have gone straight to twin beds as I really don't think toddler beds are necessary, but at the time with my daughter we lived in a small condo and no way could we fit a twin bed in the room with the dresser so a toddler bed it was. She moved to a twin when she was just around 4yo when my son needed the toddler bed.

I really found no difference napping with my son when he was in a crib or a bed, but then again, he never napped in either the crib or bed. He was a perfect sleeper in the crib at night, but for naps he preferred a mat on the living room floor and still, at 3yo, naps in the living room.

My kids never slept in a crib. Well my oldest did until he was 2. But the other 3 never did. We were family bed people. By the time we had our last child we didn't even bother bringing the crib up.

My youngest DD starting climbing out of her crib before she was 1 -- she walked at 9 months.

At that point, I had to keep the side down on her crib and put up a baby gate at her bedroom door when I put her to bed either at night or for her naps.

She didn't like to be "kept down". Before the age of 3, she was able to climb the chain link fence and get out of our backyard.

I left my DD in her crib as long as I could! She climbed out for the first time around 38 months. She did it again a few days later, so we knew it was time to switch her over. She has a convertible 4 in 1 bed, so we only had to remove the front panel on the crib and install a smaller one that is like bed rails. She took the transition so well. And in 2 months she has only gotten out of her bed from naps 1 time, and never at bedtime. We loved the crib and was so scared she would feel at liberty to play and not sleep, but so far so good!

ODS was moved to a toddler bed at a little less than 2 1/2. YDS is still in a crib, and he will be 2 1/2 in Nov. YDS is delayed, so it will be at least 2 1/2, maybe closer to 3 before he is moved.

My four kids all were in the crib till at least three years old, one was close to four. Once they started climbing out at around a year, I just kept the side down and told them to stay in bed. My kids just loved their cribs and all transitioned easily to twin beds.

Our son started climbing out of his bed when he was between 16 and 18 months. We converted his bed into a toddler bed at that point.

Pardon my naïveté; what is a family bed?

I got my "big girl bed" on my second birthday! (But that was 24 years ago... ;))

If I had kids, I would do the same thing.

I believe when they began climbing out of the baby bed. We didn't do toddler beds. We just put a full size mattress on the floor for their bed for a couple of years.

Both of our boys were climbing out of their cribs by 16 months. We moved in to full sized beds. We never had a problem.

co sleeping. We let the kids sleep with us in bed when they were younger. I breastfeed and it was the only way I would get any sleep.

:thumbsup2 only one of my kids liked the crib my first son LOVED it.. he hated co sleeping I mean HATED it! :confused3 but he was out of the crib at 18-19 months.. not by choice he broke it by jumping in it over and over again. I thought we were done so I didn't want to buy a new one for a few months so I made him go into a bed which was a disaster he was NOT ready! Anthony will sleep in the crib for about an hour.. then he's back in bed with me they are so snuggly at this age.. I love it :cloud9:

We did that in the beginning too and I was much better rested than if I had to get up and down. We also kept the diapers/wipes in the cosleeper-we used an actual cosleeper, though my daughter primarily stayed in our bed, but my son preferred his own space in the cosleeper. Once my son was sleeping through the night it didn't matter where he was, but I waited till he was 5 months and change to move him to the crib.
