Hi again
I have a tentative reservation for our first cruise for room 8040 for the 7-day western cruise week of 1/3/2004.

Is this a cat 4? I asked for a cat 4 , and the agent's notes refers to it as a stateroom, but doesn't specifically say what category it is.

We are a family of 5 (at time of cruise, DD's 8 & 6, DS 3)

From the ship diagram, Its on the port side of the ship under the family pool area and stages, 3 rooms from the elevator lobby

Any of you seasoned veterans have any ideas on the quality of this location (noise, traffic, etc)

Thanks in advance...Mark

I've been a couple of doors down in the Cat. 3, 8034, (and yes, your room is a Category 4 Family Stateroom) and the noise during the day was not bad, but you do hear chairs being moved around above you on Deck 9.

The night of the deck party was VERY loud, though, in our room. The band was right overhead at the Goofy Pool stage, and they played till midnight. We had to get up very early the next morning for the St. Thomas immigration check and a shore excursion, and it was not a pleasant experience with a sleepy 8-year-old.

I think you're far enough back that the stage is not directly over you so it should not be so loud, but you will hear SOME noise from Deck 9 from time to time.

What do you think about the proximity to the elevators?

Noise during the day probably isn't a big deal, its the late night noise I'd like not to here.
