I have a dear friend who, along with her husband, bought a home in The Villages, near Ocala. They have always been DW fans, making a couple of trips or more a year.

I just spoke to her as she just got back from their winter in Florida and she told me that they did NOT go to DW even once!!!

What a waste, I believe their Florida residence status should be immediately revoked.

I have heard of people who never avail themselves of the attractions near their homes because they plan to get there 'someday" but who would have thunk this could happen to people with DW in their backyard?

Hard to imagine! The long term dream is to spend spring thru late fall in Maine and winters in Florida. My husb can golf everyday, and I'll be at WDW! :) Maybe I'll even try to become a CM!

Do they want to adopt some of us?

We would make use of it.

drakethib, I wish. They are not even interested in renting out there place. Don't really blame them as it would be hard to say yes to some and no to others. They do not even get out in the community much. If I were gonna sit at home I would j ust stay at home, the snow does not matter so much if you are indoors. Awfully nice people but hard to understand though.

Susiesnowflake, I bet you would make a wonderful CM. Working somewhere you love is not like work.

That's funny because my parents live there and we got the guilt trip for not spending enough time in The Villages and too much at WDW. Sorry but we'll take Mickey and Minne anyday over golf carts and "The Newlywed Show" on the Villages TV channel.

My parents do have Florida Season Passes though...

Funny you mention The Villages. I took my car to the dealer on Wednesday morning and they had a shuttle van to take me to work. The driver was talking about how he can't wait to move to Florida, he and his wife are looking at buying at The Villages.

There are 4 people I work with in the Orlando office. None of them have been to Disney recently. One has 2 teens, they have AP's for Universal.

I was at a business meeting and someone mentioned the theme parks. It was amazing how many of them hadn't been to WDW in years. Sea World seemed to be popular with them.

I didn't want to say how many times I went to the parks last year and I still haven't been to Sea World.

Not everyone has a craving for going to Disney. To each his own.

Strange that I've heard so much about the Villages in the past 2 weeks. I had never heard of this place before my step-father told me that he and my mother will be purchasing a home down there in the next few weeks.
We've been visiting Disney for so many years now... it seemed like the perfect place for them to retire. He has about 10 years left before he retires... but they're going to get the home now and use it as an investment/vacation home.
I'm excited... I'll probably move down there to be close to WDW, I mean be close to my parents. :smooth:

My parents moved to Florida a couple of years ago and never went to Disney. Everytime we mentioned wanting to go when we visited, my mom acted like it would be horrible. After celebrating my baby's birthday there with us one year, all of a sudden they go even without us! It's like they never gave it a chance. But once they did, they discovered that it was much different than they imagined--especially Epcot.

ROTF at some of the comments. I had never heard of The Villages until my friends bought in there and now I see them everywhere and know many others who have or are planning on moving there. Might be cause they were designed by the same people who design DW and Universal. Most amazing place. The town square looks like an old Spanish town but if you walk around the block to the backside of one side of the square there is a modern shopping center.

If you have the money and are comfortable with perfection without many children it is a nice place. (myself, I cannot do with kids around, keeps me young)

My family is from St. Petersburg (we all live in Tennessee now) but they lived there until I was 5 years old and my sister was 7 years old and NEVER ONCE did they take us there. We begged and begged but the excuse always given was that they had already been there before...HELLO>>>>SOOOOOOOO WHAT we haven't!!!!!

I am now 29 years old and still have never been but I am taking my baby girls on May 13th....AND I AM NOT TAKING MY PARENTS WITH ME!!!! :rotfl:

My DH is 31 and he has never been either!!

What were our parents thinking????

Before I moved to the Orlando area, I had visions of myself going to the parks two or three times a week. Nope. It doesn't happen. Real life gets in the way. I try to get to each park at least once a month. I tend to get to Epcot more often than the others. I do go to DTD at least two or three times a week to shop or eat.

I live a little over 2 hrs from Disney and even though we are Disney freaks and go all the time the reality is there are many people I know that have never been and never have a desire to go or have been and don't have a desire to go back. People assume that you live in FL you go to WDW and all the other parks such as universal and Busch gardens and even though yes it is much cheaper for FL residents to do this b/c of the discounts we get it can still cost alot of money that many poeple do do have.

You got it! I love living in Orlando but don't go to the parks as much as I thought I would. I've only lived here a little over a year but I know people at work who have lived here their whole lives and have never been to any of the parks and frankly, they have no desire to go. It's great having the parks right down the road but after a while you put that on the back burner.

My brother and his sig. other moved to the West Coast of FL from MD about 10 years ago to be closer to her family. They have NOT YET been to WDW or even Busch Gardens Tampa!! :earseek: He says it's too expensive  (They own a beautiful gulf-front condominium). He cannot understand my obsession with WDW. They last time he was there was in 1981 on a family trip and it was just MK and the 2 hotels. If I lived where he does, I'd be at Disney every weekend!! :teeth:

Most people I know who know how often FH and I go to Disney look at us like we're crazy. It's just not a big deal for most people who live in Florida - heck, I think it's cool to even see cars with an antenna topper here.

Universal and IOA are much bigger draws, I want to say because people aren't familiar with exactly how much you can do at Disney. Before FH and I bought annual passes 1.5 years ago, I'd been to Busch/Universal many more times than I'd ever been to Disney.

It's kind of like the beach here, we all live so close but we NEVER go. :)

I'm going more than I thought.

I bought DW and I FL resident AP's in November and use them almost every time I'm in FL. This trip, I'm here getting DS settled as he is attending AMI in Daytona. Last night at about 6pm, I was bored and checked park hours. MK was open to 11pm, I went to DS and said MK is open to 11, want to go?

Did all of the mountains, POTC and IASW, saw Wishes and Spectro. What could be better than that.
