What a let down :(

I also figured out after we got back last night that the thing I was looking for was a pillbottle about the size of the keychain pillbottle DH takes to work every day. Camoed. On the ground. In the woods. So little to NO chance of finding it.

When was it found last? Most of the caches you will hunt are camoed in one way or another. You have to look for it. Sometimes you have to look for a long time. Granted, a camoed micro in the woods might not be the easiest thing to find but it's not the most difficult either. What is the GC # for the one you were hunting?

We did our 1st geocaching a couple of weeks ago. This is a great family activity! We actually found 2 out of the 3 we were looking for. Everyone's out of school and DH is taking the day off on the 16th so we can do it again!

It's frustrating not to find it! Maybe you will next time-give it another shot, and have fun!

We used to go a lot in MA/NH (about 5 years ago) there are a lot more there. Lots of fun! We had a Garmin handheld unit and it got us right near the spot most times. I was good at spotting them even the really hidden ones. We have done 2 and 3 part cashes and traveling bugs. There are a few cashes here at the World, Celebration and Orlando. We have even done the ones on castaway Cay!

LOL there are plenty of caches near Celebration to keep a cacher busy for quite a while.

:thumbsup2 We love geocaching! :thumbsup2
Always start at the easiest ratings, and it helps if you're into hiking or walking through wooded areas, but it's great fun. DH got me hooked about 5 years ago. Now our whole family does it together.

I love geocaching. The handheld Garmin units really do work well for it - the car units are great but aren't really intended for something as exact as geocaching. My family does do the ones that require hiking, but we only like to do those when the weather is really good. The rest of the time we stick to the more urban ones. There are lots around us that are in business parking lots or other places around town. We learned early on to pay close attention to the clues and description on the website, as well as how recently it was found last. It can be frustrating to spend forever looking for a cache only to realize that it was supposed to be at eye level and we were looking on the ground, or that no one has seen it in months and it's believed to be missing. Geocaching definitely isn't for everyone but it can be lots of fun! It is one of those things like Disney trips that is much better if you do your research first. OP, good luck if you decide to try again!

Well I found a cache1 :cool1:
I found out there was one outside our local library and it turns out, it was on the outside drop box. The paper inside was totally trashed from the recent weather, but I went inside to tell the librarian, who pointed me to where the second part of the cache was. Inside a book on local treasures :thumbsup2 was a sign-in sheet which I did sign with my geocaching.com username.

There's supposed to be one just off a hiking trail near DS's school so I might try and check that out tomorrow after I drop him off.

Yay! I'm glad you had more luck this time. Just be warned - it can be totally addicting. And as you get more used to it and learn what kinds of things to look for, it does get easier. Have fun!
