What a disaster!!

Hi there! I have been lurking on your TR for a while and just read through and caught up on everything that was posted over the past few weeks.

Just a question (or two) about your camera gear.

1. I, too, have the Crumpler 6MDH. I was planning on using that as my bag while walking around WDW to hold my gear but have never been on Soarin. How tight was it trying to get your bag into the mesh pouch? I have the 5MDH as well, do you think that would be better to use?

2. When you are carrying your 70-200 around with the 6MDH---what are you able to fit into your bag? I recently upgraded to the D90 and can now fit the following in the bag: D90 w/ attached Nikkor 18-200, Nikkor 50mm 5/1.8, Nikon 60mm micro, Sigma 30mm f/1.4. Do you think I could comfortably carry the D90, the 70-200, the Sigma 30 and a wide angle all at once in the bag? Most times I have my camera out to shoot---but in case of rain or needing a rest, I want to make sure it all fits in there. I'm planning to rent the 70-200 for our trip to give it a work-out before I purchase it.

Any info you could provide would be great. Thanks!!

Ann

Still no glass, no wallet, and what is up with the pokey foot? I can't wait to find out what kind of delicacy you selected this time and what it looks like! Are we eating a delicious smoothie :thumbsup2 or some kind of foam  ? Anxiously waiting with my caramel corn popcorn:: ......
My next update might be sooner than you think. :rolleyes1
Another great update. :thumbsup2 I'm looking forward to reading about your dinner and also hoping to find out about your wallet and your foot!
Thanks for hanging in there. My wallet and my foot shall reveal eventually.
Test Track is notorious for breaking down. This first time we went on it, it kept breaking down while we were sitting on it. It totally lost the effect. We couldn't figure out why everyone liked it. We decided to try it again, and it went much better. Now it is a must see.

We love Soarin' too. I don't like heights either, so I feel for the teenager. However, I think if she had stuck it out, it wouldn't have been bad. Because you have to convince yourself that although you seem high up, you really aren't that high up. MY girls were so proud of me for doing this one.

Can't wait to hear about your dinner and, of course, the pics!!!:worship:
Althought I like Test Track very much but that one hour of wait was just a torture. :lmao: To make matter worse, I am a car fan too so I know everything about cars also. So it's not like he talking about things that I didn't already know.

You are right. The height at Soarin' wasn't bad at all but that girl was hyperventilating.
I was nine month's pregnant with child number 5 when we did that. Noticed the elevator AFTER I climbed all of those steps! Plus it was raining outside which added to some of the misery. But the food was great! And we loved the atmosphere. As a note, I climbed back DOWN those stairs just to make a point as we were leaving! :rotfl:
I give an A+ for the effort. :thumbsup2 Those steps are pretty high to climb.
My feet and knee ache just thinking about Epcot walking... but I love it so!!!
:lmao::lmao:

And test track has been spoiled for us as we walked on x3 this pass January during an early day rain drizzle... there was no one there!!!
I am jealous.

I like it but not to wait as long as you did--- but I know once I get in a line I kind of say to myself, it won't be that long, it won't be that long...
That's exactly what got us to wait that long. We should've go to the single line and separate ourselves for the ride. That would've been much faster

PPLLLEAASEE what happened with wallet??????

Won't you like to know? :rolleyes1 Just be patience.
I may have to try my hand at writing a trip report when we get back since I have my husband encouraging me and I really do enjoy reading other people's so we'll see what happens. I do plan on keeping a journal while we are there so I can have lots of notes and something to remember this trip besides pictures when we get back. I did warn my DH not to look at me to strange when he see's me taking pictures of our food and things for the TR if I do decide to write one.
I got an earful from DW as well about the food pictures. After a while, she got used to it. :rotfl:

Thanks for the input on the tour like I said we are very excitied and can't wait. I appreciate the heads up on the shoes I didn't even think about it for some weird reason. I'll let you know how the Magic behind the Steam Trains tour is when we get back and I get my DH to give me an update on it. I may just have him write up a review about it so I can add it to my TR.
I would love to hear about the Steam Trains tour.
BTW, if you ever comes to Northeast, I worked at a very famous small town that you might've heard of it. It is called Scranton. The NBC sitcom "The Office" basically put this town on the map. Scranton is known for Steam Locomotive, not Dunder Mifflin. You DH would've love it. http://www.nps.gov/stea/

I was so excitied :yay: when I saw you had an update but then no update on the wallet or the pokey foot and all the excitement went away :sad2:. But none the less I still enjoyed your update. Hope your dinner was great. After seeing all the smoothies you had I may be on a smoothie diet next week just so that I can try them all.:rotfl: Here's some pixiedust: to you getting your wallet back and that nothing major is wrong with your foot.

I'll be busy finishing packing these next few days so hope to read another update before I leave. Thanks for the great report!!:cool1:
Have a smoothie for me while you are there. :woohoo:
Thanks for the update!! Still waiting to see about the wallet...popcorn::
Hanging in there. :rolleyes1

Better late than never. Glad you came along for the ride.

I was able to get the 6MDH bag into the net at Soarin'. I guess I was trying to hurry myself so I got a little fluster. 5MDH bag probably would fit much easier because of the size. However, I don't like the 5MDH bag because of the lack of shoulder strap padding.

Through out the trip, I only carried my 70-200 mm with me on Day 3 & Day 4 (AK). I was totally surprise my 70-200mm able to fit inside the 6MDH bag. On those 2 days, I have my D200 mounted with the 35mm, a 50mm, the 70-200mm inside the bag and my 10.5mm fisheye in a lens pouch. I would swap the lens only when I am ready to use the 70-200mm. After that, I left the 70-200mm at the room and brought the 24-120mm instead. Otherwise, everything stays the same.

If you plan to carry your D90 with 2 prime and the 70-200mm, that shouldn't be a problem to fit everything in the 6MDH. You just can attach the 70-200mm with the camera in the bag. However, I can't say the same with the 5MDH since that bag is a little smaller. Only one issue I have from carrying the 70-200mm. That lens is heavy. After a few hours, my shoulder was achy by the end of the day. That make it even more important to carry it with the 6MDH because of the shoulder pad.

I almost forgot. To all you mommy out there. I hope you all have a happy mommy's day.:yay::yay:

Great TR:thumbsup2
we are going back in November and I love getting into the spirit of Disney by reading great trip reports!!! can't wait for update!!

Thanks for the quick reply. When I take out my 5MDH, I just take the shoulder padding thing off of my 6MDH and put it on the 5---that way I get the best of both worlds. A smaller bag that still has sufficient cushion on the strap. :thumbsup2

We have breaks scheduled into the afternoon each day, so my plan was to go out shooting with the 70-200 and two primes in my 6MDH and then switch for the afternoon. Leave the 70-200 and the 6MDH in the room and go light by bringing the 18-200 and 5MDH out with me.

Thanks again for the response---looking forward to more of your TR!

No problem. I hope I get to see some pictures from that 18-200 to compare. At a lot of people doesn't like the picture from my 24-120. The all think that lens is just not that sharp.

:cool1: Awesome update!!! I was exhausted from a crazy busy weekend at work, after reading your TR I am now energized. I have ressies at Teppan Edo for our upcoming trip so I am pupmed to hear about it, hopefully you have pics of the food. I am waiting patiently to hear more :rolleyes1!!!:::)))))

YAY for updates! I havntbeen on much but I cant wait for your updates!!

Hi TopDog or as we say in GA TopDawg!

Glad you are feeling better...Great update. :thumbsup2We loved Coral Reef as well. My DH and I celebrated (with our kids) our 20th anniversary there in 07. We sat right by the tank and it was great. We all loved the food and the atmosphere. My DH had arranged a diver and that made it all extra special.:lovestruc

There is one thing....It is noisy. Perhaps it is the design/poor acoustics:confused:...who knows. But, don't go expecting quite because it definately isn't that. Come to think of it I don't think there is anywhere quite at WDW. :confused3

We ate at Tappan Edo last year and had a great experience there as well. I am anxious to hear how you and your DW like it.

As everyone has said - great photos, great report. but...what about the wallet??????:rolleyes1

JK...well...maybe not.;) Keep up the good work.popcorn:::cheer2:

The steam train tour is perhaps my favorite tour and one I would do again. The guy who gives the tour actually designed it and you can tell his heart is in it. I love the WDW trains and so do the guys that work there. It was awesome!

Yay! Another great update. Love the photo of the Epcot ball and the water. As always, you leave me wanting to know more!

Keeping my fingers crossed that you eventually run across that Mickey Margarita glass. Wouldn't seem like it would be all that difficult to find, especially in Mexico! Oh, well...

Can't wait for the next installment!!!! :cheer2:

Your Pictures are just outstanding. I really hope you do find your wallet with everything inside. I want to go back to WDW again. There are so many things I missed looking at your pics and reading your report. Great job!! Can't wait to read more.

I didn't notice the noise at Coral Reef. Then again, I was too focus on the fish tank anyway. That's pretty cool your DH arrange a diver to deliver a love note message perhaps. I hope.

BTW, you will get a PM from me soon.

Day #6 (Friday) Part 5

Teppen Edo was just a mobbed scene. Some how, my DW managed to get the CM's attention and get a pager for reservation. We tried to stand aside as best as we can to avoid the crowd behind us keep coming in. The restaurant itself is pretty large. Even the waiting area has a lot of space too but the volume of people was just too much to handle.

In any event, after we stood there for almost 10 minutes, a couple of seat at the waiting area finally opened up. I grabbed my DW's arm and practically jump to the seat immediately. My legs were just tired. Once we sat down, I felt a whole lot better. Sitting there watch people coming in trying to get a table was like watching the zoo. I see people complain why it took so long. Even with the people that has reservation, they would complain about the location of the table is not good enough for them because they can't see the firework. The best one was this family of 5 doesn't want to share their table with other people at the Hibachi table and they were not happy that they have to wait for their table. Yikes!!! It's like the whole world have to evolve around these people and forget the other few hundred thousand people are there on their vacation too. Of course, I just rolled my eyes :rolleyes1 and laugh inside my head loudly. That's how evil I am, I guess. I just felt bad for those little Japanese girl CMs took the abuse from these people.

By the time our pager went off, it's already 8:15pm, 15 minutes passed our ADR. Also, by then the crowd has already thinned out a lot. I was so hungry, my pupils were about to turn backward like Linda Blair. LOL... We handed in the pager and the CM greeted us with a few other couples that we will be sharing at the Hibachi table. At first, I told DW I wasn't too keen about Hibachi before we made the ADR since I am not that big of a Hibachi fan. I've been to many Hibachi restaurants from privately own to the franchise one like Benehanna, it's a constant hit or miss for me. But since this is Disney, I am willing to give it a try and I was glad I did.

Once we sat down at the Hibachi table, I can't wait to look at the menu and order. First, DW and I ordered the ice green tea. Apparently, they don't serve smoothies at Teppan Edo and I wonder why. ;)

TED_D6_drink.jpg

After we got our drink, the waitress then took our dinner order and we were set. Here is the awkward part about Hibachi. Basically we were sharing the table with 3 other couples. I grew up sharing dinning table with other strangers when I was a kid so that's nothing new to me. However, I just don't know what to do when I sat with 6 complete strangers now while we were waiting for our food. I can only imagine they think I must be a complete dork when I whipped out my camera and start taking pictures of the food. :rolleyes1 So I just keep my head down whispering to my DW and played with my camera just to kill the waiting time.

Thankfully, the wife from the young couple that sat next to my right start up a conversation and ask me where did we came from. So I was able to chat with them for a little bit. It turns out they lives at Hollywood, Florida and they were there just for the weekend since they have an annual pass. They even ask me about our deluxe dining plan and a whole bunch of other question as well. By the end of the night, I knew how long they were married, what's their occupation, how many time they go to WDW every year and the wife is pregnant with their second child while their first child is staying with her parent when they are at WDW. Oh! And they told me we need to try the pastries at France.

DW also stuck up a conversation with the older ladies couple next to her left and they were from upstate NY area. They were retired ladies who come to WDW every winter just to get away from the cold from the northeast. One bad news they did told us was the plane crash at Buffalo the night before because that was the airport they flew out from.

Finally the food began to show up during our conversation. DW has a simple garden salad with ginger dressing. That's always her favorite.

TED_D6_B_appetizer.jpg

I have the shrimp cocktail with Wasabi cocktail sauce. It was a little different but not bad. I know what Wasabi taste like but since I don't eat Sushi so I hardly even have Wasabi with anything else. Nonetheless, it was still very good. Since the have to cater the restaurant to so many people, therefore the Wasabi wasn't quite as spicy as I prefer.

TED_D6_P_appetizer.jpg

Once we finished our appetizer, the chef came out and greet us. His name is AKIRA. He went around the table to confirm our dinner and then try to guess each of our nationality. He started with the couple next to my right, "American, American, Ja..." He stop short when he get to me and gave me a confuse look. I smile back and said, "No, I am Chinese". He then felt relief and continue..."Chinese, American, Ameican...".

Anyway, he was pretty funny. He poured the dipping sauce out and then explain what each one of them was.

TED_D6_dipping.jpg

Finally, he told us not to touch the table cooking area because it's hot. I guess some people must've have touch the hot table and burned their hands before. After that, the cooking show began. First he start cutting up some vegetable and mushroom with his fancy fast knife move.

TED_D6_mushroom.jpg

Then he did the choo choo train thing with the onion. He stacked up the onion ring like a chimney and then squirt water in the middle to cause the water to vaporize inside and steam coming out the top. He then push the whole thing with his spatula slowly while making the choo choo sound. Silly but effective.

TED_D6_choochoo.jpg

After that, he start cooking the Udon noodle and spray some sesame like the Disney magic dust.

TED_D6_noodles.jpg

It was quite entertaining. Of course he had to do some fancy juggling with the salt and pepper shaker.

TED_D6_chef.jpg

Then every one got a pile of those delicious Udon noodle.

Side.jpg

Finally he start cooking the main course. He began with the filet mignon first which was what I ordered. (Yes...more red meat. Remember, I had steak at Coral Reef only a few hours ago. It's probably vaporize by now from all those walking.)

TED_D6_P_maincourse.jpg

As soon as the food landed on my plate, I began to chow down like a hungry puppy. I even surprise myself and managed to capture one shot of my plate before digging in. Who care what DW ordered. I do remember she ordered the chicken and shrimp. The only thing I was able to capture was the chef's fancy knife move again when he was cutting the shrimp on the hot table.

TED_D6_shrimp.jpg

Normally, I don't mind late dinner. However, by the time I got my main course, it's already pass 9pm. Factor in the activity we had all day, I just can not compose myself any more. People around the table probably thought I haven't been eaten for a few days.

After the chef finished cooking everyone's dinner, he bowed and thank us for watching the show. And we gave him an applause. Every body was happy. It didn't take long for us or me to finish our dinner. I think I forked a few pieces of chicken from DW's plate as well. Then it's time for dessert. I've been waiting for this moment for a few weeks already. I read so much about their chocolate ginger cake. A lot of people find it boring, plain and disappointed. So I must give it a try.

TED_D6_P_desert.jpg

DW had a boring chocolate ice-cream. (So...no picture for her dessert.) I found the chocolate ginger cake quite good. In fact, I would rate it just as good as the mango pie from Anandapru Yak and Yeti, the Baileys and Jack Daniel's mousse from Coral Reef and the Tiramisu from Tony's Town Square. The presentation wasn't quite as exciting as the others but it definitely taste wonderful. I highly recommend this dessert.

So after dinner was over and we say goodbye to all our new friends at the table then headed back out for more punishment, walking. That's right. Since EPCOT has the EMH tonight, DW wanted to ride the Maelstrom adventure cruise one last time before we leave. So off to Norway again and we did the cruise ride. After the ride, we stroll through the gift shop one last time before heading out to the main gate area. As we were walking back to the bus station area, DW finally notice I was limping a little bit. I told her it's no big deal. It feels a little pokey but not in pain. My legs actually felt worse than my foot at the time.

Just as we exit the main gate, DW suddenly asked me, "You lost a lot of money in your wallet didn't you?" I said, "Yeah." And I also told her, it's okay because even it was quite a few dollars plus the half used gift card and one credit card but that was all I had in that wallet. It could've been worse. In addition, left it at the gift shop in DHS was still a guess. For all I know, it could've been pickpocket as well. I told her we'll call L&F again tomorrow. If they still don't have it, then I would pretty much don't expect to see it ever again.

Here is my take on the wallet. I know I lost quite a bit of money. However, I found the more I try to find it and knowing I am getting no where, DW will just get more upset and I don't want to let that incident ruin our happy vacation. To me, our mood at vacation are priceless. As long as I didn't loose anything important like my driver license or my insurance card, everything is replaceable. So I will take some cut on my lunch when I come back to make up the lost. It isn't going to hurt me. I just want us to be able to enjoy the rest of our trip. So there you are with the fate of my wallet. I am afraid my wallet was gone for good. We did called L&F the next day and still went no where. I am sure my DW called L&F after we got home too.

The only some what good news I have was I did called the credit card company to report my lost. The CC did confirm there was no activity since my last charge about a week before we left for WDW. So no one has used my CC. It has been 3 months since our trip and no magic package has come to our door either. Had some one work for Disney found my wallet, he/she could've trace my credit card name easily on their reservation system. Since I haven't receive a package or a phone call, my guess would be some one found the wallet. Took the cash and gift card out then tossed the wallet into the trash.

Once we arrived to the bus station, a family of four (parents with 2 small children) was already there waiting. It turns out it's the same family who want to offer me a seat at their table in Coral Reef so I can take pictures of the fish tank. So we chat and laugh. They were from Wisconsin and that was their last night at WL so they will be leaving tomorrow morning. As we were talking, the bus station began to get crowded. It did took some time for the bus to get there. But we were having a great time talking and laugh, the wait didn't bother us at all.

However, once we got onto the bus, that's a different story. Since we were at the front of the line, we were able to get seat. But the people were kept pouring in and soon the all the seat were taken. The rest has to stand. I saw this family walked in, parent with 3 children. Youngest one maybe about 3 or 4 years old. The middle one maybe about 6 and the older one was about 13. The bus was dark and crowd. So I stood up and offer my seat to the mother so she and here little one can seat. I told DW to stay put at her seat. As long as she held my camera bag, I will be fine. The mother thanks me for the seat. Her poor middle child ends up siting on her feet. As more people getting on to the bus, I only saw a 1 or 2 more men offer their seat for the women and their children. The rest just didn't acknowledge those women and children should be seated. Even though it bothers me but I didn't say anything. My DW however is very vocal about this kind of thing but I ask her not to make a scene because she's a Karate brown belt second degree. I would have a hard time protecting the men from her.

The bus ride was long because we have to make so many stops with so many people getting off. By the time we got to WL, I think it's already past 11 pm. It was a long day indeed. I took off my shoes right away to check my left foot. It felt a little tender but wasn't bad. I can feel the tenderness right under between my big toe and my second toe. It was a big relief after my shoes are off. However, I was so over tired and couldn't sleep right away even after my shower. I end up watching the news about the plane accident at Buffalo until pass midnight then went to sleep. DW passed out way before that.

I'm so sad to hear about your wallet :sad2::sad1:
I hope you had better luck finding the margarita glass!
Once again, your pictures are amazing--I get hungry just looking at them! :goodvibes
