What’s your favorite patriotic song?

Basically, anything that supports what the USA used to stand for, but recently:

God Bless the USA - Lee Greenwood
If tomorrow all the things were gone I'd worked for all my life
And I had to start again with just my children and my wife
I'd thank my lucky stars to be livin' here today
'Cause the flag still stands for freedom and they can't take that away

And I'm proud to be an American where at least I know I'm free
And I won't forget the men who died, who gave that right to me
And I'd gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today
'Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land
God bless the USA

From the lakes of Minnesota, to the hills of Tennessee
Across the plains of Texas, from sea to shining sea
From Detroit down to Houston and New York to LA
Well, there's pride in every American heart
And it's time we stand and say

That I'm proud to be an American where at least I know I'm free
And I won't forget the men who died, who gave that right to me
And I'd gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today
'Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land
God bless the USA

And I'm proud to be an American where at least I know I'm free
And I won't forget the men who died, who gave that right to me
And I'd gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today
'Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land
God bless the USA

"Proudly it Waves, Old Glory"

"Proudly it waves, Old Glory,
Over the land of the free;
Promise of hope and freedom,
Symbol of liberty.
Red, white and blue are its colors;
Colors both brilliant and clear.
Colors with far deeper meaning than that at first may appear.
Red is for blood of Patriots who have died to free us;
White is for justice and government of law;
Blue is for honor and faith in all we do!
This is my flag;
This is Old Glory, the red, white and blue."

"Waltzing Matilda" is my favorite national anthem (although I think that's unofficial.) I'm not Australian though.

The ones that get me the most are the civil rights songs, which I do consider patriotic. My favorite is We Shall Not be Moved, but there are so many of them that make me want to cry when I hear them.

Watched the movie 42 last night. What a beautiful movie and yes a beautiful song for all. :goodvibes

America the Beautiful. I find it a lot more evocative than The Star Spangled Banner.

I also used to do Civil War reenacting and there was some great patriotic songs written during those years, including one of my faves, Battle Cry of Freedom:

I second America The Beautiful and would also prefer it as the national anthem. Easier to sing than the Star Spangled Banner, with better lyrics IMO (less focus on war). I love the Ray Charles rendition.

God Bless America by Kate Smith and God Bless the USA by Lee Greenwood are my two favorites.

The anthem makes me weepy, I just wish I could reach more than one or two sentences at a time - still I wouldn't change a note.
God Bless America & America the Beautiful are others that warm my heart, I'm 2nd-3rd gen but grew up in an immigrant parish and I can still see a tear in the eye of that old Monsignor every time we sang for him :littleangel:

Judging by my earworms, it would be "Over There" by George M. Cohan. My husband laughs at me when I hum it, because it's a WWI song, and I'm not over 100.
