What’s the best non-Disney part of your Disney visit? No, the airport doesn’t count.

We often combine our yearly few nights at WDW getaway with a few nights in Ft. Myers, so I guess I'll say going to the Ft. Myers area.

As a kid, we did this a few time and it was great! One year we did Sanibel Island but then Ft. Myers Beach 2 times after that.

When we go to WDW, we stay on property and only do Disney stuff.

For Disneyland, we also typically just do the parks and DTD. But occasionally we will stop by Old Town Orange to walk around and visit our wedding chapel. We used to live down there so it's always fun to reminisce.

Also, for Disneyland, we like to drive instead of fly for summer vacations so the road trip part is something we really enjoy (1500 miles, each way.)

I hit the road when I went to Disney this year. Definitely an advantage on the ground... you get to visit other places in addition to Disney! I might end up flying next year...

Definitely Universal. Lately I spend a bit more time at Universal than Disney on most of my Orlando trips.
I feel like a nobody when I’m at Universal TBH. Somehow when I’m at WDW it’s a whole different experience. Much better characters at Disney than at Universal…

Just got back from a Universal trip and know I am definitely a Disney Girl.
It was fun to look at but I really didn't do much. Loved Isle of Berk though.

Even though we drive to Disney, we never leave the bubble during our stay. So I guess my favorite non-Disney thing is mentally checking off the landmarks along the 1,000+ mile drive to Disney and tracking all of the various state vehicle license plates we see along the way. I really do enjoy the drive to Disney (I'm always the passenger -- I'm not an aggressive enough driver for DH on a long trip like that. I'm content staying in the right lane most of the time as along as it's moving at the speed limit. He's not happy unless he's the lead car of the "traffic clump". :D)

Cool! When I was on my way to Disney… I actually fiddled around with a small FM radio that I took from my house and scanned around to see which stations I would get along the way. I’ve gotten such stations like G105 in Raleigh, 97.3 KISS FM in Savannah, and 95SX out of Charleston among others. When I start hearing XL106.7 out of Orlando… I know I’m getting close to HOME.

Universal, especially HHN and if we're there during their Mardi Gras/Carnival time. Although I'm still peeved w our last trip there....
also love when I can meet my cousins, often at Bahama Breeze.
Keep saying I'm gonna get to Gatorland....maybe next trip.

Don’t wait until Gatorland eventually shuts down…
Or the performing animals eat the staff and make a break for it.

When we lived in Vermont money was tight so we always drove down. We didn't rush, we usually arrived in Kissimmee in the middle of the third day on the road. I loved the trip down because I was anticipating the parks and I also love a road trip.

Post Disney, the road back suddenly became like going around the globe. I guess the emotional let down along with the well earned fatigue raised its ugly head. My feet felt better though, if that counts.

Disney is so worth the tired feet for me…

I hear ya on the drive back home from Disney not being as enjoyable as the drive down. We also take our time getting there -- leaving in the morning on day #1 (by 8:00 or 9:00 a.m. usually) and drive until about 4:00-5:00 p.m. Usually on the road by 8:00 a.m. on day #2. Day #3, we usually have less than 2 hours to drive, so we're at Disney by 10:00ish (although on the last trip, we were in Orlando by 6:00 p.m. on day #2, so we booked a room at Disney rather than stopping somewhere an hour away). On the drive home, we leave by 6:00 a.m. on day 1 and we're usually home by early afternoon on day #2....but it feels like we've been driving for a week. :D

It’s always great to do the non-Disney stuff first…
Honestly it’s mostly because we have a bit of business down there on occasion and it’s easier to take care of it first. If I’m totally honest going to Disney is a “few nights out of the winter cold in Jan or Feb” and just habit at this point rather than a vacation destination.
