Wet ponchos?

Any tips on dealing with this? I always take a plastic bag or ziploc to put them in, but it is always a mess when getting them out to use again - after a ride, etc. They usually get wet on the inside and that defeats the purpose of wearing it!

We bring two ponchos each - I haven't figured that out either. They stay wet for a while.

Hope someone comes up with a good solution. I keep them on for the rides unless they make me take them off then they go into a platic bag and get all wet. When we get back to the room I put them on a hanger and depending on how wet they are they either go on the clothes rod or in the tub area. We are still using the same yellow ones we bought back in the 90's. I also have some really cheap (2 for $1) that I bought at the dollar store which get thrown away if it stops raining.

I agree that there really isn't much you can do in between rides. I generally grab a few paper towels and try to shake them off and then give them a quick wipe down before putting them in a bag.

We buy the cheap disposable ones at the dollar store and bring lots. We have loads of the nicer/thicker ones but they are a pain when they get wet. The others we just TOSS and use a new one each time.

I wonder if it would be work to put 3 or 4 paper towels in the zip lock bag with the wet ponchos. Maybe that would help to absorb some of the excess water and help them to not be quite as wet when the are taken out again. We always take a gallon size bag for each poncho, so I am sure a few paper towels would fit in each bag. We also try to kind of fold (or even roll) the poncho rather than just cram it in the bag and that helps a bit. Maybe between folding the poncho and putting in a few paper towels to soak up some of the water, that would keep them a bit dryer.

We haven't really had too much of a problem with the ponchos. Take them off. Give them a quick shake or 2 to knock off the worst of the wet. Fold and roll them being careful to keep the dry side to the inside, and store away in a plastic bag. When you use it again, give it a good shake after unrolling/unfolding it. And, of course hang it up to dry as soon as you get back to your resort.

This is what we did. My mom actually bought the kids the ones at WDW and they wore them once and they were awful so we threw them out and just used the disposable ones. It rained everyday of our trip for a little bit usually twice a day. It would have been a pain trying to bag them up and put them on again.

I do this too and it works out very well.

How about one of those super absorbent microfiber cloths that you can dry hair or your car with. They come fairly small and while the person is still wearing the poncho a few wipes would soak up most of the water. I used to be able to dry my entire car with one and when it gets wet you just wring it out and it will do the job again? Just a thought, never tried it. I think I will this year though. :)

That is actually a very good idea. Its funny that we have lots of these at home, in the garage, and in the cars, but it never occurred to us to throw one in our park bag!

I would not have thought of it if the question was not asked..but I do think it would do the job. Thanks for appreciating the idea!:) I am certainly going to give it a try.

I give mine a body shake while wearing it and carefully take it off inside out. Then I fold it up and put it away.

And then just turn it right side out before putting it on again. It's worked well for me.

If you have young kids you'll want to help them do this because I know mine wouldn't have been patient enough to do it.

Nice idea!

We tried the disposables once; hated how they felt, hated the waste. We've had the Disney ones and they were fine. Now we have nice ponchos for travel that we bought at the Rick Steves travel store in WA. Those are very nice.

We carry disposable ponchos from $ tree but I use a small umbrella most of the time because it helps with shades or glasses. Rain doesn't get on my glasses as bad and I can't stand a hot and sticky poncho. I use the small umbrella from $ tree and I put a clip on it and attach it to my backpack.:beach:
