Were you in your high school's band?

If so, what instrument did you play? Piano, flute, trumpet, French Horn, mellophone, baritone, euphonium, E flat Alto horn.... okay any brass I could get my paws on after a while ;)

Was it a good experience for you? The best in the world!!!

Do you still play your instrument? Only a couple since a lot of the brass were borrowed from the school. Picked up guitar later though

If you have kids, are/were they in band? no kids, but if we do, I am sure they will be ;)

Anyone play in college band? Yep, for a while at least. Actually where I met my hsuband :teeth:

I was in The Lake Central High School band in St. John, Indiana and I played Clarinet.

This was a remarkable experience for me, and our band teacher was a remarkable man. He was very demanding by expecting true dedication and perfect behavior.

My DD's are not old enough to be in any bands yet. They are the ages of 6 and 11 months. I would like to see one of them in the band, but I would never demand it. Currently, I can see my oldest DD being a cheerleader or in theater before being in the band. She's just that type of girl.

I sure was in the high school band! Was band president my senior year...LOL. I played the trumpet and still do. I absolutely loved band! It is an experience that I would never trade for anything in the world! Favorite memories include performing at the Magic Kingdom, Busch Gardens, the Miss America parades, football games, summer band practice with no air conditioning and some pretty wild bus rides.

I played tuba in high school in Milby (1956-58) in Houston. I played at the U of H band for one year. Then I had no tuba until 1995 when I bought a used one and now I am in the Deer Park Community Band. I love it.

Yes, I played the clarinet. But only for the first 2 years of hs (but I was in band for 5 years total). My band director freaked me out a couple of times that last year. He'd go to my stand, and would stand behind it and stare at me for serveral minutes at a time:rolleyes: That was during our relax time. I can't relax if someone is staring at me.

My dd is in the band in the middle school. She'll decide her instrument at the end of this month. She's thinking of either the clarinet or flute.

I haven't played my clarinet in many years. It needs new corks and pads.

Yes. Band was my favorite part of school. I played trumpet, french horn, saxophone (alto, tenor, & c-melody) and also played guitar outside of school.

These days I still play trumpet, guitar, and bass guitar in a wide variety of venues. One of the reasons I'm looking forward to retirement is so I'll have more time for my music.

My daughters both played flute in school, but haven't since. My granddaughter plays trumpet, french horn, trombone, and keyboard. She's spending more time singing these days.

Lots of great memories and, hopefully, more to come.

Techincally, i am a 'Mighty Marching Mariner' but i'm not in band... i'm in guard (co-captain too!) and going to be a junior. I love it so much! But i did play clarinet in 5th and 6th grade band! lol

I was in the band. 4 years in Junior High i started in 5th grade, then went to high school did 4 years there both marching and concert

When I was a senior we went to the State Marching Contest and placed 5th out of 225 2A bands in the state of Texas.

I played the Clairnet. can't play it right now a piece of cork is missing.

I didn't do college band because i hurt my right knee summer before my junior year but i still marched but it swelled every friday night after the football game. I am in college right now so i keep that i was part of a state ranked band to myself so i won't have to tell them no i can't be in the band.

My brother also playes he playes the trumpet and will be in the college band this fall.

I'm in band and I absolutely love it! I play the clarinet. Band has completely defined my high school experience, and I can't imagine not being in it. I've made so many great friends, many of whom I probably wouldn't have met if it wasn't for band.

I'm currently trying to figure out how I can get my hands on a trumpet and learn to play it by next summer so I can try out for marching band at OSU, lol...I'm gonna be so lost without it!

Yes, I played flute. I had played violin from 4th-8th grade, then switched as the HS had no orchestra.

It was a great experience. My favorite was playing in the "pit band" for the school's musical production in the spring - lots of good music!

I haven't played in years.

My DD played flute in middle school and then oboe in HS.

No, didn't play in college.

My experience started when I was 4. No not quite in HS, or in shool at all, but my dad had been involved in Drum and Bugle Corps since he was 10, and it only became natural for me to pick up a French Horn and start marching at 4.

If so, what instrument did you play? Trumpet in concert band, Tuba in symphonic band, and Drum Major in marching band.

Was it a good experience for you? Absolutely

Do you still play your instrument? Yes, although I now play my mellophone more than my trumpet, and I am now the drum major in St. Kevin Emerald Knights from Boston.

If you have kids, are/were they in band? My DD(19) played trumpet in HS, my DS(14) is a percussionist (like his grandfather) in 8th grade, and also plays in two drum corps with me. My youngest DD 10 will begin playing trumpet this year, and also plays guitar

Anyone play in college band? I went to Berklee College of Music, so I guess I didn't have any choice. ;)

I owe much to my band/drum corps experience. For one thing it's where I met my DW. I always refer to my three kids as a byproduct of drum corps. :) I also got introduced to WDW in 1975, and we know where that led. :bounce:

Were you in your high school's band?
Yes.
If so, what instrument did you play?
Tenor Sax in school and jazz band and alto in college, but still tenor in jazz band.

Was it a good experience for you?
DEFINITELY!

Do you still play your instrument?
Yes, plus a LOT of others. I majored in music and have a BS degree plus. I currently teach all woodwinds in a studio.

If you have kids, are/were they in band?
Yes, but DS quit the tenor sax after a couple of years. DD is a percussionist, and majored in music as well. She still plays professionally around the TC area.

Anyone play in college band?
Well, I guess I answered this one in the above information!
:teeth:

I played the flute for 7 years, including 4 years in HS marching band and 4 years in HS orchestra. I made great friends and great memories - wouldn't trade that experience for anything!

I didn't play in college - always felt intimidated by the music majors who were really accomplished.

When my kids started to play (DS plays alto & bari sax, DD plays clarinet) my DH had my flute cleaned and repadded so I could play with them. I get it out every once in awhile.

I was the lead singer.
I loved it and would love to be in a band again.
I still sing alot and I´m going to take lessons again.
My daughter will sing in her school choir this year.

At school I played in 2 orchestras, a concert band, a brass band, a jazz band, an early music ensemble and sang in several choirs. I also played in an orchestra and county (state level.)

If so, what instrument did you play?
Trumpet is my main instrument, but I play the flue, clarinet, recorder and a selection of early musical instruments too.

Was it a good experience for you?
Yes, I went on to study music at university and have a graduate degree in the subject.

Do you still play your instrument?
I still play my trumpet. I play in theatre bands for musicals in a few local theatres.

If you have kids, are/were they in band?
Don't have kids.

Anyone play in college band?
My husband and my friend are heads of music departments in high schools. When they put shows on in the theatre I get roped in to play for them to help the kids out!! A few weeks ago I played for my friends school whe they did Les Miserables.

Pom pom girl here - did my part to hussy up the otherwise very professional looking and sounding band at my HS. I think back on those outfits -- white go go boots, skirts that barely covered our butts and little white panties underneath! OMG! We must have looked a sight!

No, I don't still get out my pom poms and dance around! :scared1: Trust me that would be pretty scary!

It was fun. The rest of the band accepted us as equals even though we didn't play instruments. In the 70s in a small town there weren't many options for girls (no sports at all) and so it was something to do! I'm glad DD had more choices.

Another band worm here!

Clarinet was my chosen instrument - started in 3rd grade. Ended up as Drum Major my Senior year in HS. Kinda funny for someone who's barely over 5ft tall!

Absolutely loved the experiences (even sweating to death during the stifling heat & humdity during summer band camp).

Didn't have the chance to extend it to college because biology labs conflicted with practices.

DSs are both too young to pursue anything other than homemade percussion instruments ;) .

My son is starting the elementary band this year.

I have never played, and neither did my DH.

My son is playing the oboe! He did a summer camp, and got 5 weeks of lessons.

I hope he stays with it!

I was a Pom Pom/ Dance Line girl too! Yeah, I shook my "tail feathers" every friday night at half time to the music of the Marching Band.
Our outfits were purple, white and orange. Sometimes we wore white boots and other times we wore saddle shoes. We also wore way too much 80's makeup.

No, I do not shake my Poms anymore. Even though, I still remember most of our routine to "Let's Groove Tonight"

The band members were great and I really hope my daughters want to play an instrument or "shake their groove thing"!!:p

I was in the high school band for 4 years -- played alto sax. It was a great time and the traveling was the best! :) Didn't play in college, haven't played in years, and kids are too young to play.
