Ok just curious, you plan and you plan for your magical Disney trip only when you get there you end up sick or some one in your party does. What did you do? Did you still have an enjoyable time?

My husband got some kind of virus...he felt achey and tired. Really achey and tired. So he went back to the hotel and we kept going to the park. Me and DD9 got it the next day, but not as bad. We just had DD12 pick out rides for us and we lumbered aroudn as best we could.

YES! Almost every trip someone gets sick in some way or another.

One year, my then 6 year old caught some virus (the one from the cruises) where she threw up non-stop for 24 hours. It started at Magic Kingdom around 9:00p at Mickey's Not so Scary Halloween Party. The poor thing. We took turns staying awake with her. The next day we moved to Universal and we took turns staying in the room with her while the other parent took our other DD to the parks.

The next day, our younger DD had the same thing. :(

They've both gotten colds on vacation which stinks for their ears on the way home.

We just make the best of it and it's never really ruined our vacations.

During our trip in December of 2004, 4 of the 6 people in our group got sick. I think my dd1 just had an upset tummy -- she threw up one time and that was it. My dd22's friend had a sinus infection the entire time and was miserable -- she took over the counter drugs and kept going. My ds4 spent a night and day throwing up -- my dd and dh took turns staying with him while the rest of us went on to the parks. My dd22 has a heart condition where her blood pressure drops and she passes out. She had been up sick all night throwing up (same night as my ds) and had stayed with him during the am the next day. That afternoon she went to MGM with us and was obvsiously still not feeling well. I knew she was really sick when she opted to stay out with the baby while we rode TOT. We left afterwards and as we pulled out of the the main gate onto I-192 (we were staying off site) she grabbed her chest, cried out in pain and passed out. I didn't have any idea where a hospital was so I drove on to the villa (a couple of miles away) and planned to call an ambulance from there. By the time we got there she was fine (although weak and tired) and she went on to bed (she was an adult afterall, I couldn't make her go to the hospital). The next day she was fine but I was a nervous wreck -- I made her call the Cardiologist from the MK and schedule an appointment for when we got back. It was the heat (her body temp doesn't regulate) and excessive tiredness that caused it. We go back in November and will be taking things much slower - I think "commando" touring caused my family to be sick.

I got pneumonia (on the plane on the way to Orlando, I'm positive) a few years ago. I spent two days in my room, and, because when I checked out of the hotel the desk clerk insisted on calling an ambulance, five nights at Celebration Health - in the Presidential Suite; not because I'm "somebody", but because that was the only room available :) and it came with a balcony and a great view of the IllumiNations fireworks, even from bed.

Yeah, my wife and I got a pretty bad head cold on our Honeymoon. She started earlier and had it worst, but I ended up with it as well. It wasn't too too bad, just downed plenty of cold meds, drank plenty of water. The only time it really affected us was our night at MVMCP, when my wife's cold reached it's peak. She got tired really early and we were heading back to AKL by 9:00.

My DD got sick our last trip. She had a fever for 1/2 our trip. She would be fine at first in the am and then just be feeling poorly by the end of the day. Fortunately I had packed some meds for this just in case and I also was able to buy stuff from the hotel store. We took it very easy the rest of the trip. I was disappointed for her since she missed doing a lot of fun things on the trip.
On the bright side, we decided to go back this August so she could enjoy a sick free vacation!

Last September my oldest DD and I both had some sort of mild laryngitis/cough thing going down. On the second night my youngest woke up with severe croup. She had had it once before so we knew what to do until we could get to the hospital in Celebration the next morning. They were great and she was feeling better after the steroids kicked. It did put a huge damper on our trip mostly because the kids were so worn out from being sick that they were extra cranky the entire time. We didn't think it was smart to go swimming with them with colds/croup so we never got to use the pool. Normally we just roll with the punches, but this was unfortunately a downer of a trip. Just need to schedule another one to make up for it!

My daughter and I got sick on our Sept 04 trip.We went with my sister and her family and my parents. My sister was at the end of a cold when we got there and by the next night my daughter woke up with a sore throat and fever. She was 3 at the time and it was her first trip to disney.I stayed with her the next day when everyone went to Epcot and met up with them later. She was still sick the next day when we went to Universal she just sat in her stroller and napped for like 2 hours. When we got home and developed the pictures she didn't even remember meeting Dora-one of her favorites at the time.Poor little thing I felt so bad.I came down with it 2 days after her but even though I felt lousy I was determined to not let it stop me or my family-my daughter was much better by then of course and wanted to do everything.I got some nighttime cold stuff that helped put me out at night and by 2 days into it I felt better. It did also make it very painful flying home for both of us though-my daughter was crying and I thought my ears were gonna explode.I do not want to fly with a cold ever again! We went back last Dec and the whole planning process my daughter kept saying I hope I don't get sick again and have to stay in the room.

Oh Boy, did we get sick. When we went in February 2003, it was m oldest DD who was 6, my middle DD who had just turned 1, Dh, my mom and dad, my friend and her daughter. Everyone, but my dad, Dh, and my friend got sick. And I don't mean not feeling well sick...I mean really sick, sick. Not to gross you out but everyone threw up. My oldest did on the bus on our first day. My friend's daughter did in the food court of all places on our second day. My youngest did on the bus home from Animal Kingdom and got so sick we ended up taking her to Celebration Hospital where we spent like 8 hrs feuding with the hospital staff about anything and everything. She got some meds and was doing better and just when we thought our vacation was going to end on a good note, I got sick two days later and my mom got sick that same night. I thought I was going to pass out during Fantasmic. I don't know what casued all our problems, but we vowed to NEVER go during February again!

Our second trip was in December and I got a sudden migraine the day we were supposed to go to MVMCP. I could barely get out of bed. DH talked ot the front desk to see if they was anything we could do about our "nonrefundable/changeable" MVMCP tickets we weren't going to be able to use. They were so NICE! :wizard: When he explained the situation they said it would be no problem and switched them for later that week. DH took the kids to the pool all day.

Fortunately I had taken some migraine (prescrip) medicine with me, even though I don't get them very often. It makes me sleep for several hours and kind of loopy, but it did help. We ended up going to DTD that night just to get the kids out and get some dinner. (Earl of Sandwich had great soup!)

I spent the rest of the week with "migraine hangover" which wasn't the most fun, but we loved MVMCP and had a great week. We saved money on food since I didn't have much of a appetite after that! I now don't leave home without a complete "pharmacy"! :rotfl:

I am a little worried because this next trip will be just the kids and I, so if I get sick for any reason I will have no help with the kids which would be a problem. I guess they would end up watching Disney TV for a day or two!

I still get blurggity thinking about it, but last year we ate at Boatwright's for breakfast. By 4pm, I could hardly stand and was running to the bathroom more frequently than I care to admit. We were waiting for the bus at the CR (decided to walk there from MK to save time) and ended up taking a cab home because there was no way I could manage transfering bus to bus.

Anyway, it finally allllll came out around 9 and I felt much better but was still very slow moving. We missed two entire days of park and meals (we were on free dining too :guilty: ) along with a surprise cake at Narcoosee's I had planned for our anniversary. DH was sweet enough to drive over to GF to pick it up.

Anyway, lots of water and crackers later, it was time to go and the front desk was gracious enough to upgrade our remaining tickets to no expiration.

I would rather be sick at Disney than well at home! :)

Does very sore blistered feet count?
If so, Yes!
Spent a fourtune on Dr Scholls products, gritted my teeth and went along.

Yeah......I was MISERABLE. Luckily, I got sick on our last night there, so it did not hinder the experience much. Actually, we were in Universal Studios that day. It was our 10th day of vacation....I had a young child that I still nursed...and ten days is enough to REALLY get you off of a nursing schedule. In Universal studios I started feeling very faint, like I was going to pass out. I felt nauseous. It was literally the worst I have ever felt in my life. It was so hot outside....my mom made me sit down in the shade and fanned me and sprayed me with water. That's the only thing that kept me from passing out.

I went to the First Aid services there at the park. They let me lie down in a cool room for a while. After that they wheeled me in a wheelchair to our vehicle.

We were staying at the Caribbean Beach Resort. That night was just terrible. Turns out I had come down with Mastitis, which is a really infected milk duct. I seriously felt like I was going to die.

Luckily, we only live 2.5 hours away, so the drive was not too awful. However, I felt terrible.

we went at Christmas time in 1991 and I ended up getting strep throat. We had to go to a nearby clinic! It was awful. I opened my presents CHristmas day in bed cuz I was so sick!

Just this past March 2006 both DS11 and I had some sort of 48 hour virus. DD9 had had it just two days before we left and I commented to her "better sick at home than on vacation". Never expected DS and I to get sick while ON vacation. I was there for a convention and we added two days to the beginning of our trip but those were the days DS and I were sick. High fever (my eyeballs were bright red), vomiting and diarrhea at the same time. We watched the Disney classic cartoons loop over and over again and fell in love with Lambert the Sheepish Lion. We did warn mousekeeping that two of us were ill and so DH stripped the beds for her. DH and DD did the parks by themselves those two days.

I am so glad we bought the non-expiring PH because now DS and I have 7 days left for our next trip, whenever that will be (likely 2007 or 2008). I feel like we are owed a "do-over"!!!

A few years ago DH was cranky, fatigued and totally out of sorts during our trip. When we returned home, he went to the Dr. only to find out that it was leukemia!!! He was told that he was luck that he didn't have a heart attack or stroke on our trip due to his blood counts being next to nothing. The upside is that he is fine now and we do a "do-over" trip every year!

Wow! what an 'upgrade'! :teeth:
DISers now know what room to request when dangerously ill! ;)
Hoping your recovery went well & speedily~

I was sick last time out for the 1st few days--nothing serious, but confined to room--hey, OKW :thumbsup2
I told the guys it sure had being ill at home beat all to pieces. I did reel around for a couple of hours the 1st day, just enough to get an Epcot fix, figure out I wasn't just tired--then to bed for the next 2 days.
On the 3rd day went to the parks a little worn, but what a tonic! Just being there made me feel so much better! :wizard:

Eight of us went down from Christmas to New Years Day and 7 of the 8 got a terrible stomach virus! Our son was only 1 at the time and he was literally sick for 4 days!!! Needless to say we came home with tickets remaining! That was a trip to remember.... :sad2:
