We're STILL full!!! 9/22/07 - 9/29/07 Free Dining report W/ pics! COMPLETE 11/14

Love the reviews 1Have ressies for Raglan Road next Feb! Have been hearing lots of good things about the stuffed pork and the bread pudding. Like the sound of the Lemon Sole too and the Bangers and mash, shepherds pie too( I love Lamb) but I make my own! But that stuffed pork is looking netter and better!!

I'm loving looking at your pics and reading your report!! I do have to disagree on one thing though....the Eggs Benedict. You could never put too much Hollandaise sauce(there's no mayo) on it for me. This is one of my favorite breakfasts and the Sauce(made with egg yolks, lemon and butter) is what makes it! Wow....if anything that picture makes want to go running for Boatwright's for breakfast when we get there in 9 days!! YUM!

I also have to say I totally agree with you about that peanut butter mousse brownie. One of my favorite CS desserts!

Keep the photos coming...:goodvibes

We made this reservation at the last minute when we got the 'extra' TS credits from the reservation system crashing. We knew right away we wanted to try to get in here, because this is one of our favorite places to eat. I am SO sad that they are taking the appetizer out of the DDP for next year, because this place has my most favorite appetizer in the world, but more on that later.

We had our ADR for 7:20, checked in, and had to wait a few minutes to get an elevator up to the restaurant, because there was a huge group of business people who must have been having a dinner up in the private room as part of a conference. Once we got up there, we each got a drink at the bar and waited about 40 minutes for our table to be ready. Although it was a long wait, we got to watch the sun set, which was really neat, as they open up all of the blinds and call out to let everyone know it was happening.

When we were finally seated, we were brought into a back room overlooking the Wilderness Lodge, and you could see Epcot in the distance. It was MUCH quieter here than in the main dining room. This is the second time we've eaten dinner in that little room, and we really like it.

Alicia, our waitress, came to get our drink orders and gave DH some wine recommendations. We put in our appetizer orders and they came out about ten minutes later.

I got the Spicy Sensation sushi
HPIM1097.jpg

First, I'm sorry there's a bit missing (DH's is worse, just wait), but we were so hungry and I could not wait to dig into it, that I completely forgot to take a picture at first! I love sushi, and I have to say, this is the BEST sushi I have eaten ANYWHERE. In fact, at random points throughout the year I get cravings for it, and wish I could just hop on a plane to WDW solely to eat this. It has scallops, tuna, avacado, and tobika in there, with fireball sauce on the top. Let me tell you, this stuff is H-O-T! It's your mouth is on fire, nose is running, kind of hot. But, wow, is it good! And you can see that these rolls are huge - it's really hard for me to fit one in my mouth without cutting it in half, which I really don't like to do, because it IS sushi, but oh well. Also, I do have to say that although it is a great sushi dish, it's not *quite* as good as it was on our first trip to the CA Grill in May 2006. The reason is because when I had it then the fireball sauce was heated and poured warm on top of the sushi, which was just amazing, and now it is poured on there cold. It's still good, but I wish they would heat that sauce again!

DH had the Sonoma Goat Cheese Ravioli
HPIM1098.jpg

Yeah... sorry 'bout that! He eats really fast. Basically, it is one huge ravioli - every inch of that bowl was covered in the ravioli, if that helps you visualize it. He said he liked it, but doesn't know what else to say about it. Hmmm... well, we must assume that it was good, since he ate the whole thing in under three minutes.

For his entree, DH had the Grilled Pork Tenderloin
HPIM1099.jpg

This came with goat cheese polenta and mushrooms. I had a bite of this, and it was excellent! It was very juicy and so tender that it fell apart in your mouth. The polenta was creamy and VERY cheesy - it was almost over-powering. DH loved this as well, and ate every bit of it.

I had the Oak Fired Filet of Beef
HPIM1100.jpg

This was very tender and juicy. The bbq sauce was sweet and it worked really well with the meat. The mashed potatoes were good - the skins were still on, which I love. The string beans were excellent - I couldn't tell what flavors there were, but they were amazing and SO much better than I make at home. :lmao:

For dessert we split the Cheese Board
HPIM1105.jpg

This could have been had as either an appetizer or a dessert. I'll describe from left to right. First, is a baguette with butter, which was surprisingly creamy.

The first cheese was the St. Marcellin, which is described as a soft cow's milk cheese with a runny interior and a strong flavor, and complemented with Apple Chutney. It was very creamy, more so than Brie. It smelled like stinky feet. The chutney was sweet and it complemented the cheese well, but the cheese was so strong that it basically overpowered the chutney.

Second was the Abondance, described as an uncooked, pressed, semi-hard cheese from the Alps region of France. It's a cow's milk cheese, and was paired with candied Marcona almonds. This was my favorite of the bunch. It was very hard, and reminded me of parmesan in taste and texture. When it was paired with the almonds it tasted like pistachios, like my family always has out at Christmas-time.

Third is the Clochette, described as a soft, smooth raw goat's milk cheese, made to resemble a bell. It has a white rind and a semi-firm center with a mild flavor, and was paired with Honey Comb. It was creamy, and the flavor came out when it was paired with the honey, but the wax from the comb kept getting stuck in my mouth. I don't remember much else about this cheese, except for that wax - it was a bit annoying.

Fourth is the San Andreas, which was a raw sheep's milk cheese from Bellwether Farms. It was smooth, creamy, and mild with a bit of a sour finish, and it was paired with raisins on the vine.

Finally, there was the Fourme d'Ambert. This is described as a creamy blue cheese with a lasting taste of wine, and was paired with apricot paste. This was much creamier than 'regular' blue cheese, and it didn't crumble at all. The apricot was sweet and it off-set the cheese, but it still tasted like blue cheese (you know, that strong flavor), so I wasn't TOO crazy about it.

I have to point out that the cheese board is $17.00, but it only counts as one appetizer/dessert, so DH was planning on getting one for himself, not realizing how large of a helping this was. Alicia told him that it was a LOT of cheese and that we should start with one, and that if he still wanted a second, she would happily bring it out for him. She was definitely right, and of course there's no way he could have finished a second, so she very kindly packed up a slice of chocolate cake for us to take with us, because she said it was included in the plan so we may as well. Unfortunately, we never got around to eating it.

Of course we watched Wishes from the observation deck, and it was fabulous, as always. I always feel like I am the only freak tearing up at those fireworks, but isn't it just the most beautiful message? After we came back in, our dessert was waiting for us. Alicia was a really fabulous waitress, and all of her recommendations were spot-on.

Spicy Sensation: $18.00
Ravioli: $11.00
Pork Tenderloin: $26.00
Filet: $36.00
Cheese Board: $17.00
Chocolate Cake: $10.00
Gund Merlot: $12.00
Spahn Chardonnay: $11.00
Tip: $26.14
Total: $145.67 (4 TS credits)

Great photos again:thumbsup2 I don't do sushi, but that appetizer looks amazing!:)

Great reviews! I have to say when I saw the scrambled eggs from POR Riverside Mill I thought eww runny eggs! Looks like that was the only problem item you had the whole trip.

It was a busy weekend here, so I'm sorry this update is a few days coming!

This day we decided we were just going to lounge around the pool and see where the day took us. So in the morning we went to Riverside Mill for breakfast, but didn't really see anything that appealed to us, so we took the walk over to POFQ for breakfast at Sassagoula Floatworks. Even though this food court is much smaller, we found they had many more options for breakfast than Riverside Mill did.

Anyway, we both decided to go with the Bacon, Egg & Cheddar Croissants, as well as an order of Beignets.
HPIM1106.jpg

I thought these were great (*almost* as good as Main Street Bakery), and DH said they were 'not bad'. The bacon was very crunchy, and the eggs were made to be very loose (but not runny!), which is a nice change from the hard, dry eggs you usually find in the food courts. The cheddar was completely melted all over the sandwich, and it was just great.

The beignets were perfect, as always. You cannot come to POFQ and NOT have them. They are fried dough with TONS of powdered sugar. Totally not a healthy breakfast, but wow, are they great! They are well worth the walk over from Riverside, but they ARE very messy. There was powdered sugar everywhere when we were done.

When you are on the DDP, if you choose to use a CS credit for breakfast, you get two drinks (in place of a dessert). I got an apple juice and a bottled water, and DH got an OJ and a coffee.

Bacon, Egg & Cheddar Croissant (2): $11.58
Apple Juice: $2.00
Orange Juice: $2.00
Water: $2.00
Coffee: $1.69
Tax: $1.35
Total: $20.62 (2 CS credits used)

We chose to charge our Beignets to the room since we had that credit, but they would count as a snack, also:
Beignets (3): $1.99
Tax: $0.13
Total: $2.12

We were just hanging around the resort today, so that presented us with a problem for lunch. We had already eaten at the Riverside Mill food court twice in the four days we had been there8, and we REALLY didn't feel like eating there again. But, we were in our bathing suits and lounging by the pool and were feeling lazy, so going back to the room, getting dressed and taking a bus somewhere to eat was not appealing to us, either.

In the end, our laziness won out and we wandered over to Riverside Mill. I had the grilled chicken sandwich, and DH had a cheeseburger.
HPIM1107.jpg

Next trip I will do a better job of remembering to turn the food so you can actually see what is underneath the buns! I was not at all impressed with this chicken sandwich. It was on the dry side and had no flavor to it, so I just smothered it in honey mustard sauce, which allowed me to eat about half of it. The fries were, of course, extra crispy and wonderful. One thing I did get excited about, though, was that it was served on a whole-wheat bun. That was the first time I had seen that at Disney, and felt *thismuch* better about pigging out on vacation, since it was a little bit healthier than if it were a regular bun.

DH did not like his cheeseburger. He couldn't even finish it. He said it was way too salty. For him to not finish food, or to come out and say he doesn't like something, must mean it's terrible, because he will eat anything. Oh, and this was also served on a wheat bun.

As you can see, I had the sugar cookie for dessert again. DH switched it up and got what was called a Magic Cookie Bar. Wow, was this excellent! Very sweet, but GOOD! It was chocolate, coconut, peanut butter, walnuts and caramel, all packed into a cookie bar. It was soft and moist and just DELISH!

Fountain Sodas (2): $3.38
Double Cheeseburger: $6.89
Grilled Chicken Sandwich: $6.49
Magic Cookie Bar: $2.39
Cookie: $1.89
Total: $22.51

After lunch, we spent the afternoon at a DVC tour and wandering around Downtown Disney. We had dinner ADRs at Wolfgang Puck, because we had eaten here for the first time in May on our honeymoon and I just loved it. We wandered over here at 5:40 and were seated almost immediately. When we were here in May we were seated outside which was MUCH quieter. As I have read posted here, it was LOUD inside. I don't much mind the noise, but if you are looking for a quiet evening, this definitely won't be it. Our table was at the back of the restaurant, right next to big windows overlooking the river and the other side of DTD. We actually got seated at a table for about 6 people, and were wondering if they were going to move us, but they didn't and it wound up being a nice, big table for us to spread out on.

For an appetizer, DH had the Artichoke and Five Cheese Dip
HPIM1108.jpg

This is a HUGE serving, that comes with really big, flat breads, which are more like crackers. I tasted a bit and it was great. DH said it was really good and he ate the entire thing.

I had the Spinach Salad
HPIM1109.jpg

This was spinach, raddichio, blue cheese, apples and carmelized pecans. This was excellent! It was a really huge portion - it could have easily been split between two people, or eaten as an entree. I kept eating this, I literally could not stop because it was so good, and I hardly made a dent in it. The candied pecans were sweet and smoky at the same time, and they went well with the apples. The blue cheese was very mild, which is good, because usually I don't like it, and there was the perfect amount of dressing on the salad, which was just an oil and vinegar-type dressing. I totally recommend this dish! Also, I have to say that I had the mango iced tea for my drink, and it was so good. Unsweetened, and a completely refreshing aftertaste. It tastes just like unsweetened tea at first, and then you are hit with this burst of fruity after taste. YUM!

For his entree, DH had the Asian Hoisin BBQ Ribs
HPIM1110.jpg

He said these were good and tasted just like the hoisin sauce we cook with at home. They were tender and fell right off of the bone. He ate all of them, and said the cole slaw that came with it wasn't bad, either, but that it had a lot of horse radish in it - he didn't eat much of this. He had these ribs when we were here in May and I noticed two differences. First, in May they were presented differently - they came out on a long rib, instead of being broken apart and stacked, and they were served with waffle fries, not cole slaw. Also in May, DH was given a choice of three different sauces for his ribs, and our waiter had went over each one describing them to DH so he could choose. I guess they have done away with the three sauces and are now only offering this one.

I had the Pumpkin Ravioli
HPIM1111.jpg

This was the whole reason I wanted to come back here. I had these in May and fell in love! I have been randomly craving these since that trip, and I even found the recipe online and tried to recreate them at home (they actually came out pretty decent, though not exactly the same as at the restaurant). These ravioli were very good, but definitely not as good as last time. There was less sauce than there was in May - now it is just drizzled across the top, as opposed to it being an actual sauce that the pasta is mixed in. Plus, there were less pine nuts with the dish than in May, and they now put mushrooms in the filling, which I was NOT happy about. I hate mushrooms, and spent a lot of time picking them out of my ravioli. All in all, it was still a great entree, I just wish they were made exactly like they were back in May.

For dessert DH had the Flourless Chocolate Cake
HPIM1113.jpg

He said this was okay, and only ate about half of it.

I had the Classic Carrot Cake
HPIM1114.jpg

First off, this thing was HUGE!!! I'm talking at least 6 inches long and about 3.5 inches high. There was no way I was going to be able to finish even half of it. But it was really good and moist! However, the cake did have a lot of nutmeg in it, almost too much, and it really stood out. The icing was nice and sweet, which really made the cake taste yummy - without it, the cake would be nothing special.

Our server, Chris, was really nice and on top of everything. He always seemed to be around when we had a question or needed refills.

5 Cheese Dip: $11.95
Spinach Salad: $6.95
Hoisin Ribs: $19.95
Pumpkin Ravioli: $16.95
Chocolate Cake: $7.95
Carrot Cake: $7.95
Tip: $12.91
Total: $89.63 (2 TS credits used)

After dinner, we wandered back over to Marketplace to go to Goofy's Candy Company. I had been reading a lot over the summer about the Make Your Own Treats, and was really excited to try them. Can you believe I had no idea these existed before this!?! What a great value for the money, and you can use a snack credit if you want (we were saving all of our snacks for the end of the week to sample things at the Food & Wine Festival, so we paid out of pocket for these babies...)

We both chose Mickey rice krispie treats as our base, however I had mine dipped in white chocolate, rainbow sprinkles, walnuts and drizzled with caramel, while DH dipped his in milk choclate, Reese's peanut butter cups, Butterfingers, and drizzled with caramel. I didn't take any up close shots, so here are some of ours being made.
HPIM1119.jpg

HPIM1120.jpg

HPIM1121.jpg

After all of the food on the dining plan, we only managed one or two bites of our treats while we were still at the World, but we did eat them the week after we got home, and they were DELICIOUS! They were big, sweet and tasty. This is going to have to be a must-do for us every trip now. Next time, I think I will be getting the pretzel rods (it comes with three of them, and you can get each one made differently)...

Now, I didn't realize this until just now as I was looking over the receipt to show you all the cost, but it appears that we were charged for just one Make Your Own, and one regular rice krispie treat, so I guess we lucked out on this one!

Dipped Crispy Treat: $3.00
Marshmallow Treat: $1.50
Tax: $0.30
Total: $4.80

Love your report and how you add the cost up. The food looks so yummy!

We have heard on this board how excellent the Kona breakfast is, and after having eaten here for dinner this past December, we knew we had to try the breakfast. We were heading to MGM this day, but we figured that since there wasn't much there that we wanted to do, we could go to the Poly for breakfast and head to the Studios a bit late.

We didn't have ADR's (shocker!), but asked at the podium and they said it was no problem and they would seat us in a few minutes. What was more like 30 seconds later, we were being led to our table in the middle of the dining room.

DH started with the Kona Press Pot
KonaPressPot.jpg

DH loves coffee, so I knew he would love this. He said it was very good, and MUCH better than what we have at home (he has been very moody about the brand of coffee beans we normally buy, because he says lately they have zero flavor to them). I tasted it, and it tasted like normal coffee to me, but I guess that's because I am not a coffee drinker. To brew this, though, they bring it out and you let it sit for about 5 minutes, then you push on that handle to drive the grinds to the bottom and all of the coffee stays on top, which for some reason, really amused me.

For his breakfast, DH got the Steak with Eggs
HPIM1127.jpg

He said this was great! The potatoes were good, and the steak was very good, though not tender. He ordered his eggs scrambled with cheese, and let me tell you, these were the best eggs I have ever eaten, and I was almost sorry I didn't order any. They were firm, but very moist, and the cheddar cheese had been melted ALL over them. It was so delicious and cheesy, it just melted in your mouth.

I had the Tonga Toast
HPIM1128.jpg

What else could I possibly order after reading so much about them on these boards!?! It was, naturally, excellent! It was definitely as good as all of the reviews say (which I was nervous about, because some of the things that get hyped up on here I just don't see what all the fuss is about), and they definitely deserved the hype. Also, the bacon was perfectly well done - crunchy and crispy! I was also eyeing the Macadamia Nut Pancakes, so next time I will have to try those with a side of eggs, because this has definitely become one of our Must Do's for each trip.

We decided to charge this to our room to use the credit that we had been given.

Kona Press Pot: $7.49
Steak w/ Eggs: $13.99
Tonga Toast: $8.99
Tax: $1.99
Tip: $5.54
Total: $38.00

Thanks for that pic of the Tonga Toast! I have ADR's next Friday for Kona Cafe and I plan on having that! YUM!

We spent about an hour at MGM, and then decided to walk over to Epcot for the afternoon. The walk is on the longish side, but it's really enjoyable. We made it even longer going via the Boardwalk, where the sky opened up and poured for 20 minutes. After the rain, we walked to the International Gateway and stopped in at Rose & Crown for a few drinks. That's when we realized we were hungry, so we wandered around World Showcase, and decided to stop at Yakitori House since we had never eaten there before. Let me tell you, we will probably never be back.

DH got the Chicken Teriyaki
HPIM1134.jpg

He said the sauce was creamy and not too bad, and that the rice was delicious. The chicken, however, looked like it was old and had been sitting out for hours - basically just gross. DH confirmed saying that it was horrible.

I got the Spicy Tuna Roll
HPIM1135.jpg

Now, I love sushi (which you could have guessed from me gushing about the CA Grill appetizer), and spicy tuna rolls are my favorite. I adore them. As you can see, this looks like something you can pick up at the grocery store, which didn't bother me at all, because the grocery store by us actually makes their sushi fresh in front of you, and is pretty good for a supermarket. Sadly, this wasn't even half as good. It was disgusting, actually. This was their 'special', and it looked like it had been sitting there for days. The ginger was brownish yellow, as opposed to the orange color it's supposed to be. I only ate two of the rolls before I gave up, which was disappointing since I was looking forward to it.

DH's dessert was a chocolate chip cookie. This was just a regular, pre-packaged cookie. It was slightly soft, and he ate the whole thing.

I had the ginger cake
HPIM1136.jpg

I was hoping the dessert would be a bit better, and I remember reading a few reviews saying the cake was decent. Well, I'm not sure what I was expecting, since it is called a GINGER cake, but there was just so much ginger and it was so over powering that I couldn't eat it. Plus, it also had a hint of cheesecake flavor, and since I don't like cheesecake, that just added to my dislike for this cake. The cake was on the sweet side, but not so much that you wouldn't be able to eat the whole thing if you wanted to.

Chicken Teriyaki: $5.99
Spicy Tuna Roll: $6.99
Cookie: $1.89
Ginger Cake: $3.99
Soda: $2.29
Water: $2.50
Tax: $1.66
Total: $25.31 (2 CS credits used)

Thanks for posting Kona. We have breakfast scheduled there for January--our first time. I'm planning to order the Tonga Toast.

You are going to love Kona - both breakfast AND dinner are amazing. And you definitely cannot go wrong with the Tonga Toast!
