Marathon Weekend 2026

SAFD: Other than the Tike Room take (I still enjoy it), I agree with most of what's been said. The one I don't think I've seen that I think needs to be changed is Hall of Presidents. Love the air conditioning, but when that's the best thing I can say about it, then it's time for an update. With the River Boat going away, I actually wonder if it's not time to retheme all of Liberty Square. I don't want to copy Disneyland, but changing it to something more like New Orleans Square themeing might make for a better transition to the Haunted Mansion and the gateway to Villains Land (but admittedly would make Tianna's seem more out of place).

Childhood me would love to see the 20,000 Leagues return, but in a way less cheezy form. It looked so cool on TV when WW of Disney came on, and was so disappointing in person when I finally visited WDW as a teen.
This makes me think of a ride at Tokyo DisneySea called Journey to the Center of the Earth. It starts out as a dark ride and then takes a very cool turn! I'd love to see them bring this to WDW.

The first time I experienced it, I was terrified! I grew to love it and wish my DH had gotten to experience it, he’s incredibly jumpy 😂
That was part of the fun for us... find a nervous adult going in and position ourselves near them when we got seated in the final room. It's a bit dark, I know, but always hilarious.

SAFD: At MK, I wish they would update the Peoplemover displays. I love riding (sleeping on) Peoplemover, but the displays are dated. For Space Mountain, change the cars to the Disneyland version. Such a smoother ride and the music makes the ride that much better. I like the Tomorrowland Speedway and the gas cars (nostalgia of my Disneyland Autopia days), but the theming needs to be better.

For Epcot, I think they had an opportunity to turn Test Track into a really cool attraction, same type of testing theme but with a better story line. In keeping with the same style as Radiator Springs Racers in DL, they could turned Test Track into the Lightning McQueen training facility out of Cars 3.

We should be getting DL Halloween maps soon too, those came out 8/8 last year so I'd guess we see those first.
Good call. Since those were just posted, I’m guessing next Monday or the 18th for medals since they like to do those on “medal Monday” lately.

So..... I did a thing.
I've been writing magazine articles about aircraft construction and repairs and my son said that I should do some Youtube videos. But I don't have enough aviation content to amount to much, and since the articles that I wrote did not contemplate video, I just took photos and wrote text. For some of the articles, I'll have to go back and create videos to show the overhaul, repair, or rebuild process.
But, my main passions are aircraft, old cars, and running, and I thought that between the three categories, I might have enough content.
So with a face for audio and voice for print, I have launched a Youtube channel and Facebook page called Wings, Wheels, and Feet.
I have used Youtube a lot for how-to when I've been working on my cars, airplanes, or home maintenance; here is a chance to pay some of that forward. Hopefully you guys find some of the running content to your liking.

If I did it correctly, the links below will work.

Let me know what you think.

SAFD: This was tough, nothing immediately popped into my head for this. The Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular could maybe use a redo, I feel its been the same show for a very long time. Maybe they could use the space to bring Muppet Vision 3D back...

@Mr_Incr3dible Good luck with the youtube channel initial look is very cool!

To nerd out on aviation for a second... One of my coworkers just got back from the Oshkosh Airshow. He showed me some pictures of the spirt engineering SE-1, aircraft, single engine single seater, very shiny aluminum, very pretty aircraft. Worth some time looking at.

Oh yeah, the SE-1 has that 1930's Art Deco look that I love. My Spezio has a similar 1930s air type look with the externally braced wing and I hope to have it signed off for flight in a month or so. My other airplane is a Thorp T-18 that I'm working on as a Youth Build project. I need to get the Spezio flying so I can relocate it and start assembling the Thorp. That and running are consuming most of my time.

Not on Facebook but might have to think about it now. Subscribed to your YouTube, I need to know more about that beautiful tail dragger. I try to get in the air at least once a month, usually a 172 but will someday climb into a classic.
Now if only I could find someone who wants out of a cheap 150 and into the 67 Firebird convertible project I haven’t touched in a few years…

I LOVED that attraction! But I also understand why many people did not. There's an expectation from Disney (ie Haunted Mansion) what level of "scary" is to be expected, even if they play things up. That's actually why we liked it, because they were willing to push that line, but not everyone who rode it got the message before they were stuck on it!
I guess? But then again TERROR, in all caps no less, was right there in the attraction name. 😉

My first project was/is a Thorp T-18 that I bought 25 years ago. It came with a complete engine, albeit disassembled. I went to put it together as something to do during my protracted divorce and discovered some critical, and expensive, parts had been sold or given away. The Spezio is a pile of parts I bought for the engine.
Fast forward past more years of divorce chaos and I had the bright idea of making the Thorp part of the EAA Youth Build. We are now close to assembly of the Thorp, but I need the Spezio out of the way, which means making it flight worthy so that it can be flown to another airport. (And flown, period....)
A quick look at the FAA registry shows about 57 Spezios registered. They are all plans-built, there were/are no kits. I'm guessing at least half of them are getting flown. Hard to say, but soon it'll be one more.

SAFD: I would love to see Mission Space replaced with a more accessible and edutaining attraction - a Horizons reboot would be incredible! That ride never has a wait because the majority of guests cannot tolerate it, and it's not even that fun.

Agree about the Speedway but hope it stays, just with electric cars instead. Little kids really love getting to drive a car, and some of my favorite videos of my girls when they were young is on the Autopia.

I'm pretty sure that over on the SS thread I had talked about how excited I was to visit WDW with DS2 this past April.
Much to my pleasant surprise, he wants to go back next spring! And go ride roller coasters again, significant because up until now he's been one of our non-coaster kids.
I'm not going to try to squeeze in the 10-miler along with airshow and parks, but I'll be down there again, which is my springtime surprise....

Good morning RunDisney All-Stars! Welcome to this week's edition of Sundays are for Disney (SAFD). This week let's talk about that insidious nemesis of runners everywhere. Chafing. If you run, you have to be aware and prepared to address it lest the post-run singing in the shower become screaming or indulgence in very un-Disney language. What are the chafing triggers that you look out for and what techniques do you use to address them?

SAFD: Chafing prevention is a routine part of running life for me and my preventative measures are based on where and how the chafing occurs. I finished more than one RunDisney race in my early running career looking like Andy Bernard after his rabies foundation 5k. Simple band-aids now prevent that from reoccurring. Another area I have an issue with is my lower back where the band of my compression shorts tends to rub. A well-placed piece of KT tape provides a perfect barrier for prevention. Finally, without getting into too much detail, there are certain nether regions that can get aggravated on occasion. For that, I find a quick application of Body Glide to be immensely helpful. Pro tip: keep a dedicated applicator for that area and label it "not for general use" to prevent mix-ups.

SAFD:
As someone who has had few chafing issues, I think I'm pretty lucky. Maybe I've just managed to select gear and use products that have been preventative, thanks to all of the wisdom I've picked up in here. But also, the drawstring knot in my leggings chafed my belly button yesterday.

Triggers I look for are seams, tightness/looseness, and how much moisture something will hold on to (and will it then get looser/bunch up.)

Seams are things like under arms, inner thigh, etc. Are the seams big? Is it positioned in a way that feels weird? Are the arm holes tighter than usual? Is the rise of the shorts/leggings higher or lower than I normally wear? Is it loose, but gets bunchy when I run, or when I get sweaty or pour water on myself to cool off? Does the fabric stretch out after an hour (looking at YOU old navy leggings!) and start to sag?

Added to this: I only run in leggings or bike shorts. Much like Erin Azar, finding "swishy" shorts is a nearly impossible task, and I have completely abandoned it at this point. IF I wear shorts I apply 2Toms Sport Shield to my thighs.

When I wear my hydration vest, I have to wear my sports bra 2 clips tighter than usual, and I also apply body glide or I get chafing under the band in the back where my water pack sits.

Vaseline works in emergencies (aka on-course at disney.)

SAFD: Old-fashioned Vaseline has always worked for me, but I’ve also tried a few sticks that have worked fine. I run in bike shorts or skorts, and I use anti-chafe along my inner thighs just to be safe. I also slather myself up under my boobs, along the top of the sports bra straps, and along my armpits (especially if I’m running in just the bra). My feet have the most problems, and I’m still trying to figure out how to stop getting blisters on my big toes. I’m trying out KT tape right now.
