We will need 14 points to complete a vacation in December. Does anyone know what the cost per point is for choice season?

It depends on which resort you will be staying at. If you are short, why not hop over to the RENT board and see if you can rent some to complete your trip??? I am sure you will find something and the going rate is $10/point. Good luck!!

24 days and counting..................

Thanks for your suggestion to rent points. We are looking for 14 for BCV. What is the process once we find someone to rent from? Do they transfer them into our account, and we send them a check?

When we talked to Quality Assurance yesterday, we were informed that on March 6th when we call to book our December trip, we would not have access to the 14 points we need from our 2003 use year. They will not be available until after our deed is recorded in June. We are, therefore, looking at options to get the 14 points for our trip. Does anyone know what Members Services charges for points?

MS does not sell points. If you need additional points for this vacation and do not want to purchase them permanently ($75 per point), you could try to make arrangements with another member. This is a private negotiation where you and the other person set the rate, terms, etc., etc. They can either arrange to move the points into your account or make a reservation for you. I don't know the specifics of how to do it but it is not anything where DVC is directly involved.

Your other option is to wait until you are able to borrow your own points and complete your reservation at that time. You could make a cash reservation for the missing night either at the DVC resort or elsewhere in the area (as your backup). Once you are able to make a reservation with points, you can cancel the cash reservation.

Member Services does not sell or rent points. Points represent ownership shares and member services does not own points.

You can't transfer points from another BCV member now because they have not closed on their contract. You could work out a deal with a BCV member to make a reservation in your name for 1 night. Or pay cash for one night through a regular CRO reservation and link it to your DVC reservation. You could then try to get a points reservation after you close and cancel the CRO reservation.

Good Luck!

Thanks. Now I am really confused, because Quality Assurance told my husband and myself that points are sometimes available through Members Services. Thanks for your help! Right now because all this is so new to us, it gets a little overwhelming at times. Please tell me it gets better!!

Are you buying BCV points? Maybe that does somehow make a difference. If that is the case, it may be a little more difficult to rent the points from any of the rest of us, because as owners at the other resorts, we will have only a seven month window to book whereas the BCV owners will have a longer (11 month) window to make their reservations.

You might have some difficulty getting a transfer as members are allowed only ONE transfer per year, regardless of whether it is a large or small number of points.

I had read in the Memebr handbook that you can not bank or borrow points until you have closed (deed recorded).

I remember this because I called on the 5th to check if (when) we would close, and was told they do teh closings on wednesdays and since my estimated close date was the 8th, I would be closing the 13th. SO when I called on the 11th for my ressie for my honeymoon nect Jan at VWL I knew I would be nedding to borrow 5 points from my next use year. They let me borrow the points, so I don't know if I had actually closed or they just don't really check if you have closed or not.

Chip1, I would call and see if they let you make the reservation, and if they won't you could reserve all but one night and then in June when you close call back and add the one night to the existing reservation.

Chip1 -- Yes, it does get easier. ;)

I'm not sure what QA was referring to. I am assuming BCV is your first purchase. This is kind of new territory for DVC selling points and taking reservations so far in advance of the opening of a resort. One of the people who posted when the BCV incentive was first announced mentioned something his guide talked about. It was similar to "borrowing" but was being called "advancing". This is something I hadn't heard of before. It may be the way someone like you could make your December reservation while all the paperwork is being processed. It would be worth discussing with MS as an option.

Thanks, I will check it out! This is all so exciting, yet SO very confusing. This board has been quite helpful.

How about a cash night for one of your nights instead of using points? That may be what your guide was talking about points being available through Member Services. Cash nights usually aren't available until about 60 days from the date of your trip.

I think "advancing" is to use your points somewhere else before the resort opens in Sep or if you have a use year other than Sept or earlier in the year.
