Sorry guys, I got pulled in to jury duty this week, and the stupid judge won't let me surf the net

But as promised, here are some pix from the protest. My sis took most of them, I got there a little later, and they don't really show the scope, there was so many people we just stuck to the edge of the protest since neither one of us likes crowds all that much.

Also we had a spot in the shade, and we needed it since it was in the low 90's on Saturday. We are considering driving up to Sacramento on Saturday for what promises to be a huge protest, but it's like an 8 hour drive. We will see!

The folks at JoinTheImpact.com, who organized the nationwide protests last week, are planning another nationwide event for December 10th!

It's called "A Day Without a Gay".

The premise is simple. For one day, GLBT folks and their straight allies don't participate in the economy. Call in sick, and don't spend money (or spend only at gay-owned or gay friendly businesses.)

Rather that sitting around the house, they're encouraging people to get out and volunteer in their communities.

It's hoped that Day Without a Gay sends the message that GLBT people not only participate in the U.S. Economy, but also care about the community. We have a lot to give, both financially, and socially. This is a way to demonstrate that.

Can't call in sick that day? The website also lists ways for people who have to work that day to make an impact.

I'm not sure yet whether I'll be able to get off of work that day myself, but thought I'd spread the word.

But the "Things to do if you can't call in sick" list started with "Spread the Word", so that's what I'm doing.

And I figure that even if I can't call in sick that day, I can still work it so that I don't SPEND any money. And then perhaps Scott and could have dinner at a gay-owned restaurant over on Mills Avenue that night. (The Funky Monkey Wine Company is gay-owned, isn't it? Been meaning to try it . . . might be a good time)

Any idea where I might find a "list" of gay owned/ CSP owned establishments in my area. Is there a list for this????

I have the HRC handbook, but that doesn't list the local stuff....

Read your local gay newspaper, Watermark here in Orlando, is Bay Windows still publishing in Boston?

Anyplace that advertises in those papers is probably a safe bet that night!

While we're discussing musicals, though. We went with friends to the Avenue Q themed karaoke (Mary-oke actually) at Hamburger Mary's last night. They do karaoke every Wednesday hosted by Dame Edna, and last night's was AveQ themed with tickets to the upcoming touring production as grand price. Our friend WON! She sang both parts of "The Internet is for Porn" with a puppet. Freaking histerical!
