my son will turn 3 on our next trip to disney(2 weeks from today) we decided a couple months ago that we didnt want to take a newly trained child and because he was showing no interest in it, we would wait to train till we got back.
well, so much for that.
2 days ago he said he had to poop and wanted to poop on the potty. so of course i took him to the bathroom, and to my surprise, he did it!! and has been since.
but he had yet to pee. so i thought it would still not be difficult, as he only poops once a day. it wouldnt be constant trips to toilets.
nope, he declared today he would no longer be needing diapers and has used the potty wonderfully today. he even just woke up about 20 minutes ago and went to the bathroom.
so it looks like we have a potty trained child. aarrghh, best laid plans, right?

so i wonder, has anyone taken a child to disney 2 weeks after they stopped using diapers? how difficult was it?

just to clarify, im thrilled that hes made this step and we have rewarded him...i just would have prefered he wait 3 weeks.

I let you know in 9 days. My DD did the same thing. She was going on the potty but I was not pushing it till we returned. Well..she trumped me! She is now wearing underwear and staying dry. She tells me when she has to go and even woke up dry this AM. I am sticking with my original plan and she will wear pull ups in the parks themselves. I will bring her portable potty ring to go on the potty at the parks and take her often. But I am NOT doing underwear at the parks when she has been trained for less than two weeks. Now at the hotel I will let her wear underwear and I am not doing a swim diaper for the pool.
HTH and congrats! They have great timing huh?

When your child is ready...they are ready.I pushed and prodded DD to try when she was 2.5y/o. She was not having it.Around the time she turned 3 she decided this was it and never looked back.We have never had an accident .Sometimes they are ready.Just plan for extra bathroom breaks during your trip and bring dry shorts and underpants in your bag.

Sounds like you got lucky in many ways, but I do understand your hesitation. I would hate to go backwards, but I would consider pull-ups...if they're not familiar with them, you could tell them it's special 'Disney' underwear and we'll go back to your other underwear at home. Then you can do potty breaks in the parks and see how it all goes, but if worse case scenario, you are covered. If not, here's what I have carried (unfortunately DS trained over many weeks to months and we still have issues with needing a potty ring, not going poop in public bathrooms, loud toilet flushing etc.):

extra underwear, shorts, AND top (we have had accidents where top can get just as wet as bottoms)
extra shoes (unless wearing croc's or something that dries quickly)
extra socks (if wearing socks)
post it notes for loud flushing toilets
toilet ring for big potties (if an issue for your DC or you're not sure)
flushable wipes
regular wipes (to clean accidents)
plastic grocery store bags (to hold soiled clothes until they can be washed)

I'm not saying you HAVE to bring all these things...it sounds like a lot, but I have it all packed in a nice small bag. It's just that for ME, having all these things gives me comfort JUST IN CASE. Then I tell myself it's only pee or poo, and underwear can be had for pretty cheap, so I just toss them if need be. You sound like you need a little extra comfort, so you might consider packing a large ziplock with these things and have a little more peace of mind.

I started training DS in late May and we are just taking our first trip trained. I think DS is doing well and will be okay--he just has to be told/reminded to go when we are out because he will NEVER tell me he needs to go. He doesnt' tend to have accidents, he will just hold it for what seems like forever. We are also going to have to shoot for going poop at hotel because DS will just not go in public.

Good luck and consider yourself lucky!

My DD22m is doing the same thing! All of the sudden shes asking to go potty, and 9 out of 10 times, she does - although she usually has a full diaper anyway. We have just under 4 months till our trip, so I don't know where we will be by then, but we will see! It would be great to go on vacation without lugging 1,000 diapers with us, especially with the new luggage restriction rules!

I did the same thing - we had my DD wear pull-ups at her first trip to Disney.

She was potty trained right after she turned 2 (in March) but that December we drove (from Maryland) to Disney. I explained that it was better to have the pull-ups on at the parks, just in case. She was fine with it! She had been wearing them at night anyway (although she didn't need them, I just felt more comfortable with her still in them at night). Then after the trip, she went without them, even at night, and had no problem.

I don't think it could hurt, and it avoids the worry about having to rush to the bathroom!

My DD trained a month before her first WDW trip. We didn't use Pull-Ups in the parks (just lots of potty breaks), but we did use them on the plane in case she fell asleep (she used Pull-Ups for naps and bedtime at that point).

I just want to warn you to watch out for auto flushing toilets. My ds was potty trained about 4 months before disney, but after his first experience with a toilet flushing while he was still sitting on it he was terrified to use the potties at disney. He would insist he didn't have to go, until he couldn't hold it anymore and then he had a few accidents. I was prepared with extra clothes. He never used pull ups at night or any other time. It took him about a year before he would stop asking me, when we were out in public, if the toilets were auto flushing. :lmao: I learned to hold my hand over the sensor so he could use the toilet without it flushing. I have since heard of people covering the sensor with post its.

BTW before the auto flushing toilets at disney he had never had an accident.

Las3888, thanks for the tips and list of supplies. We are in the midst of potty training. Some days are better than others. The supplies will certainly give me peace of mind.

My ds3 decided on his own 2 weeks ago that he wanted to use the potty. We are going to Disney this Friday. We have an 8 hour drive to the airport and I will put him in underwear during this time but on the airplane, I am going to put him in pull ups:goodvibes . I just don't want to risk an accident on the plane. He is dry every morning but I still have him in pull ups and will keep him in them until we return home.

I too, am nervous about taking him in underwear. I can just see, after waiting in line for an hour, he will have to pee. UGH. :rotfl: I don't want to go backwards so am going to put him in underwear and brings lots of extra clothes-just in case.

Good luck. :wizard:

oh my that seems like a lot. i still dont know what ill be doing. i hate the idea of pullups. we've never used them. but, i dont know how to deal with accidents. i have 3 kids and theyve never wet themselves. i know thats weird, but they never have. which is why i was terrified of my son training now.
all 3 of my kids trained the same way, i do consider myself lucky. they all woke up one day and said they were using the potty, and never looked back.
so im assuming this child will be the same.

its so strange to have mixed feelings about your child potty training:rotfl:

the post its are a good idea. if i remember correctly they were loud there. he went poop 2 days ago at target and they did have autoflush, but they were very quiet and he didnt even notice.
ill have to add post its to my to buy list, thanks:thumbsup2

I hope that my DS does this! :lmao: I too have planned on not stressing potty training until we get back, although he can pee on the potty. He refuses to poop on it :sad2: Never has. I would just say that pull up in the parks are a good idea because there is not always a bathroom nearby. I'm sure you DS will do fine!

Have a great trip!! :thumbsup2

Wow!! What a big boy! I have no advice for you, I just wanted wanted to say congrats for the easy potty training!

Lucky you.

My son did it the week before Disney - we put him in pullups for Disney anyway "just in case" - he elected not to take time for the potty at Disney except in the hotel room (so I still needed to change him - which we told him was fine), and went into underwear the day he got home.

Bring post in notes to cover the automatic flushers at Disney.
