I was at WDW last week and had a great dinner meet with some wonderful people. That will be part of a separate trip report that will come later. I had not planned on getting involved with pins. Several of the DISer's that I met, perndwler and Brer-Rabbit, were really into this and were sporting a number of very nice pins. Beverly Lynn was into it but to a lesser degree and as the evening went on, Beauty was pulled into the abyss!! I still resisted but did admire some of the pins that others had.

It was while doing a good deed that I was pulled in myself. Robin (perndwler) was interested in a tiger pin that Beverly had. It appeared that she was going to be leaving without getting that pin so the next day, I looked for and found this pin and purchased it so I could get it to her if she hadn't already gotten it. Well while I was at the pin cart, there were just a few others that I sort of liked so I got them, a couple of ones from Fantasia 2000. Just a few here or there couldn't be any harm and I wasn't going to trade, just get what I liked. Yea, right!!

Well, I started out that way and then I’d see one that I liked on a CM lanyard or in a pin cart book, so a simple trade here or there wouldn’t be a problem. Of course as you all probably already know, then I was looking at every lanyard that I passed.

Here is the result of one week at WDW.

Mickey Icon 2000 (got in a trade), Fantasia 2000 The Steadfast Tin Soldier, Hat/Glove/Pants/Shoe (got in a trade) I thought this one was really fun.

I found all of these in the book at the pin cart outside Island Mercantile at AK. According to the CM, they traded for pins they could have gotten off the cart. I traded stock pins for them and then bought the same pins off the cart to replace them.

Just liked this Mickey and I didn’t have a Mickey yet, This tiger was the start of my downfall.

I really liked this and it was one of the last pins that I bought. I have the interactive pin with the hat, but this was just really nice. By the way, the interactive pins started working in more and more places as the week progressed. They are a lot of fun.

So there it is. I’ve admitted to my addiction. I know compared to many of your collections, this will seem small, but you’ve got to start somewhere, right?

Bob,
Welcome to pin trading. here are the rules...

1) Tell the family they will live on hamburger helper from now on, no hamburger, just the helper, you can no longer afford to splurge on meat.

2) Tell the children there will no longer be Birthday and Christmas gifts. After all, you will be spending the money on pins which will someday be worth "millions" and they will inherit all of it.

3) Fill out one of those direct deposit slips and have your pay check sent directly to WDW. It will be much easier, remember the old saying "Out of sight Out of Mind"

4) Buy as many of everything you can find. It doesn't matter what pin it is, someone out there will want it. Trading is fun. Every once in a while you may get stuck with something you thought was going to be a great trader and no one else wants (anyone need the 4 Post Card Pins) I have been told if I hold onto them long enough someone will want them. I am planning on getting rid of them some time in 2007. How about the Transportation set???

Most of all, have fun. You will meet some of the nicest people here on these boards. And the best part is you get to spend time with them at the Happiest place on Earth too. what more could you ask for? Peggie

P.S. Feel free to add to my "rules" as you think of them

Welcome Bob - I've always enjoyed your posts on the Solo/Adults board.

And, I second what Peggie says. Oh and does anyone know if there is a rule about the maximum number of credit cards one person can have? And does anyone know a bank who will take pins as collateral? Wait, I work for a bank! Where are those loan officers when you need them!

Cyn:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Ya' did great for a "rookie". :D

Welcome to the madness!!!

Peggie, I've got a few things going for me. I'm single so I don't have to break the bad news about food and birthday/Christmas gifts to a wife and kids. I don't have to get approval or put up with disapproving looks when my new habit gets out of control.

One thing that I would add to the rules, maybe as 2a would be that at the same time you tell the children that there won't be any birthday or Christmas gifts that you also inform them that if they have any plans on going to college that they get a job and start saving for it right away, as you won't have anything left over to contribute to their higher education.

Thanks, Cyn. Hey, let me know how that works out with the bank. Do you think there might be a way to write of the interest if you take out a home equity loan to pay for more pins?

Bob,

Do you know what! That Tiger pin was my big downfall too! I resisted Robin until Saturday night and Beverly had on that Tiger pin and I LOVED IT!!! So I said what the heck...I'm just sad that it was on the last night of our last day that I started. I can't wait to get back down there now...After all I do have APs....why not go!!

Welcome Bob!!!

You're off to a great start!!! I think you'll find the best thing about this addiction is the GREAT people you're going to meet!

One more thing...collect pins YOU really LIKE!

Bob,
Well everyone else can add that to rule 2A but I did something smart before I became addicted to my pins.
I work at a college. therefore, my children get free tuition. Smart huh??? Peggie

Hey Bob welcome aboard.

Now dont worry just because you will eat, drink, and think pins from now on. Its perfectly normal just relaxe, and let the pin carma carry you. Dont Fight It. It can hurt you if you turn on it.

Its really loads of fun. So you aaaaa wanna trade that hoidy toidy passholder pin for a rare dancing 2000 flex pin. huh huh.

I'm just kidding y'all, put your posion email pens away.

Pssssst Bob call me:D

Hi Bob! We met very briefly at the AK pin cart before I had to run and catch up with the rest of my party. Welcome to the hobby.
Kim

Hi Bob! Welcome to our little family of addicts!! You won't find a better bunch of people anywhere!

:::evil grin::: Did you guys know I work for a recruiting firm??? Maybe I should call Disney for a job! (hehehe)

Bob, Welcome to the addiction. You did GREAT for a "newbie"!!! I love all the pins you got.

All of what Peggie said is true. I would recommend that you cut up your credit cards now, before you max them out! :p

Now you will have to join us in pin chat on Thursday night at 9:00. Look for a post here and it gives you a link to the room.

I hope we can hook up in Disney again soon. It's a lot of fun "pin hunting" with friends!

:D

Welcome to the addiction....It was great meeting out outside the Haunted Mansion and while I was "on duty";) :)

I used to post over on the singles board, but then when I got bit by collecting, ended up spending all my time over here instead! I used to love reading and posting to your different topic questions! You have a GREAT collection already for just starting out--Good Job!
