or ugly Disney paraphernalia :scared1: which may or may not include an SSR watercolor!!

...BCV has an ugly couch...
Not to mention the stains. I kid you not, the sofa in room 120 looks like someone cleaned a trout on it. However, that and the Guinness flavored carpets are about the only negatives.

It is a subjective term and that is the point. These are SUBJECTIVE opinions. So I think the rooms at SSR are ugly - what do you care? Who am I to you that my opinion of the decor of the room makes a difference? Call your wife's dress ugly and hopefully she values your opinion - and since you probably live together, its nice to have similar taste before she goes couch shopping - you really shouldn't place any value on my SUBJECTIVE opinion of beauty - I probably have lousy taste (also subjective) and AM A COMPLETE STRANGER - for all you know my house is decorated in Star Trek memorabilia.

I think you missed my point... you are right! everyones subjective view is not the same. You made a GOOD point.

Yes, but if our opinion differs, what you find ugly, I find beautiful and amazing, do we not comment? What's the point of posting, sharing if you do not expect feedback? You just put this ugly opinion out into cyberspace and no one comments?

That's fine but what about the people who are looking for a differing point of view or opposing experiences?

Im done defending SSR. I just try to help where others have helped me. For every negative opinion about DVC I read prior to joining BCV, many more posted their positive experiences and I found hope in those positives and comfort in knowing that not everyone had horrible experiences.

To say what one says or how they say it should have no bearing or value ON A DVC DISCUSSION BOARD, is like Charles Barkley saying he is not a role model.

None of us would be here, if we didnt value each others experiences and opinions. And yes, we are strangers, but as someone who does not hide behind anonymity and happy to meet others at every opportunity and reveal my true self when I pass along a DVC Christmas tree, or meet up at the Member Merry Mixer, or on the DVC Cruise or Dis meet, I do care what others think.
Will what others think stop me from staying at SSR? NO! But I try to be respectful of other peoples homes and let them enjoy their purchase. There are many things I do not like, but I'd rather be "stuck" at any DVC than at work.
Im not quite understanding the "we should be able to express our negative ugly opinion and no one should have a thing to say about it" attitude. :confused3

Generally, I don't use the word ugly. I was responding to lobstershanty claiming that saying it is ugly is not the truth. While the exterior and public areas are appealing, to me, the rooms are truthfully ugly (the only resort I LIKE the decor in is VWL - and most people find it too dark - we own at BWV and that is where we stay, but I don't find those rooms attractive.

Generally I say that the rooms are "too traditionally decorated for my taste" and "remind me of a neighbors 1970s living room." But if someone is going to claim that ugly is the wrong word....well, I have as much a right to my feelings, judgements and opinions as anyone else.

I think that the problem was that a certain poster referred to SSR as (among other things) an 'ugly housing project'--which was probably actually one of their nicer comments, but....

I think comparisons such as that are not made for any other reason than to insult and :stir:

While decor at certain DVC properties may not reflect my personal taste, to me, spending time at any one of them is still better than staying at home

Uh, was that wrong? I swear I read through the handbook and it said *nothing* about not cleaning trout on the sofa.

I think you misunderstood the point of my post. What I was attempting to say, is that to say SSR is an ugly housing project or apt complex--whichever term was used, is not the truth.
I fully agree that everyone is entitled to their opinions and not everyone likes the same things. I have no problem with people posting their opinions of the DVC resorts, both positive and negative. What I do have a problem with is when someone posts something that is not true.

I think everyone is forgetting what brought up the (ugly topic.) When we use the word it is our opinion. When used as Seabright used it, It was meant to be mean, thats why most people ignore his post. :cool1:

Well now Im hurt, I love my Elvis room and my paint by number pictures of him. :cool1:

I've just bought into DVC and am very excited about it. I had the wonderful magical feeling about doing so. After reading some of your posts I think some of you might want to think about why you bought into DVC in the first place. It is a wonderful place to go with your family. I plan on having a wonderful time whether I'm staying at my home resort of SSR or wherever I happen to stay, I'll just be glad to be there..

I am with you on that! I am going to Disney, where I stay is secondary! Any DVC resort will suit me fine! :thumbsup2

I am so impressed! Never in my DIS life have I ever started a thread that's gotten this many replies. Who would have thought?? I just thought I'd add my .02 and say that when I originally started this thread I was disappointed about having to stay at SSR, but now I'm genuinely excited. It is a huge resort, but the more I look at it, the more it grows on me. I think the decor is beautiful, and the landscaping will be awesome when the resort is finished.

The only reason I was initially disappointed is because I wanted to stay at either VWL or preferaby BCV because of their proximity to the parks, especially since we'll be there during the Food & Wine Festival and MNSSHP, but now I really don't care. We'll have a great time no matter where we stay.

I know what you mean. We kept looking for the puking green colored appliances, the shag carpet and the swag lamps--but we couldn't find them either. :rotfl2:
