they are going to give cash renters discounts for stays at okw and ssr if they do a dvc tour.

Citation?

I just got the e-mail too. This is what it says:

Your friends & family do so much for you, so why not give them something that can do so much for them!

When you share this limited time offer with your friends they can enjoy the fantastic accommodations of the Disney Vacation Club, like the comforts of Disney's Old Key West Resort or Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa.

$199* per night (plus tax)—
for stays most nights 8/30 - 10/1/09
in a One-Bedroom Vacation Home
that's a savings of over 45%!

Your friends can also learn about all the other benefits of Membership when they experience a Disney Vacation Club Open House Tour during their discounted stay. (Tour required for special rate.) See details below.

To book this offer and schedule an Open House Tour, friends and family should call (321) 939-6977 and ask for booking code GEJ.

Friends and family should call between the hours of 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. (EST) Mon-Thurs, and 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. (EST) Fri. and Sat. They should call before October 1 for travel between August 30 - October 1, and will need to provide referring Member's name and hometown.

I absolutely hate sinking to the level of sleezy timeshare shenanigans.
I really hope the next step is not a high pressure sales pitch.

It would make me really sad if that does happen. :sad1: I have always told people how "no pressure" there was during the presentation. We were able to come home, do the research and then make an informed decision.

They've always been a timeshare, they just put the Disney spin on it. 80% of Disney's effort goes towards sales and 20% towards the Members and managing the properties.

I just got the e-mail too. This is what it says:

yeah, what I heard today was that there were going to be two "avenues" one through current dvc members to give to their friends and families, and another through direct mailings to identified people - like a pin code. My citation is a friend in the cast.

$199 a night for a two-bedroom is a great deal. These cash discounts only ever seem to be at okw and ssr, I guess because they don't have a "cash" hotel attached to them so that they don't compete for cash reservations with themselves. Like how you can't book at a regular beach club room on points but you can book a polly room.

I just got the e-mail too. This is what it says:

Ditto...$199 a night for a 1 bedroom...through October something.
I don't know why really, but I'm kind of miffed.

we all know, we are just saying.

I'm actually surprised they never did this before, lots of potential buyers were asking for a way to check it out at a discount. It really kind of similar to one of the older promotions...remember when (if you purchased) they would apply the cost of your current Disney stay to the down payment?

I am not sure how I feel about it honestly. My first thought was "hey, my friends who are planning to go might be interested in this since it would be an affordable option for them." Then when I thought of DVC being compared to a "sleezy timeshare," it just made me sad. :sad1:

I always thought it was a timeshare? :confused3 Again, I do not understand how deals or any other promos make DVC any less enjoyable for the owners?

Got the email. Sales must be very slow. It does border on the hard sell.

Really? Huh - when we bought in the summer of 2007, we were told we had to decide within 72 hours of coming home in order to get the incentives that were quoted. It was a little annoying actually, but we still like our guide :lmao: -- actually we were told this by two guides.

For comparison, the offer quoted below was for a 1BR at OKW or SSR between August 30 and October 1 (select nights) for $199 per night.

According to the Disney website (meaning paying cash through CRO for room only), it would be $390 per night.

Yes, we took the tour on October 3 last year (I was at WDW for training, so I actually have the date on my calendar. :)) and didn't decide until October 24 that is was for us. We sent in the paperwork on November 6 I think, so I guess it was about a month's time total between our tour and when we became members.

No, I believe you -- I just wonder whose experience is more typical. Perhaps we bought during a test "let's be sleazy" phase! The fruits of which research are finally beginning to pay dividends.

Oh my this made me laugh! :lmao: It would be interesting to see which is the norm though. I guess I always thought that everyone's experience was similar to ours.
