Good morning.

Amanda....taste test went well ;) They are a good brownie. If I made them for home I would use a better quality cocoa......actually if I made them for home, I would use the Ghirardelli recipe and just add peanut butter chips ::yes::

Hummus is just ground garbanzo beans with seasonings (lots of garlic) added. Good on pita bread or crackers.

Karen...sorry you are going through this. Good luck with the not smoking thing. Please do stick with it. I also never smoked because of growing up in a house with it all around.

Pam, sorry you didn't get enough sleep.
Suzanne, hope you get some naps in today.
Elaine, glad you caught up on some sleep.
Paula, that is too cold for me. We were at 58º yesterday. I'm loving this.
RM, get some rest and get better. Let us know what Hope gets at the mall.
:wave2: JRKaren, hope today is a better one for you.
:wave2: Sherry.

Couscous is VERY yummy. Ed's influence on me is that I eat a lot more middle eastern and indian cuisine. I always ate a lot of ethnic foods (love Greek), but now I can make stuff from all over the globe. My hummus gets lots of garlic, but that's cuz we all really like it. We like it with toasted pita wedges.

I see JRKaren's piano, and now I'm thinking "la la la la, la la la la Elmo's World"!

Sherry, sounds like we had the same house. At one time, out of 11 people in the house, 8 smoked. It's a wonder my younger sister didn't develop any of the problems, but at seven I got really sick. Tons of tests and I was diagnosed with Asthma. Guess what? That diagnosis was conveniently ignored, because the doctor said NO SMOKING in the house. I only found this out two years ago, when a friend of mom's was asking me what inhalers I was on (another asthmatic), and mom dropped that nugget of info on me. Not a happy camper!

The tummy's rumbly. I can't believe it, I've got an appetite. I want to go back and shake the anethesiologist's hand, he did an awesome job. Throat is a little hoarse and dry, but couldn't be avoided because they had to intubate.

Anywho, gotta wake Ed up (his turn for a nap) and head to the mall while the kiddos are in school. Fortunately, all the Westfield Shoppingtowns have those electric scooters to use! I'll be zipping along. Amanda, I'll look for those spoons for you while I grab a goody for myself :)!

TTFN

Suzanne

Nancy sneated. So are those more of a chewy brownie or cake like brownie? Love chewy, cake like only when I can't get chewy.

Suzanne

I like chewy also....and always under bake ::yes::

Here are some good ones.

Hyper Chocolaty Brownies

Recipe By :Alex Rast
Serving Size : 0 Preparation Time :0:00
Categories : Brownies Cookies
Formed

Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method
-------- ------------ --------------------------------
1 3/4 cup dark brown sugar
12 oz. unsweetened chocolate
1 1/8 cup white bread flour
10 tbsp unsalted butter
3 large eggs
1 vanilla bean
1/2 tsp salt

Preheat oven to 350 F. Thoroughly grease a 9" * 9" square pan and set in the refrigerator.
Break the chocolate into small pieces, melt carefully in a double boiler. Remove from heat, and set aside to cool.
Slit the vanilla bean lengthwise with a knife and scrape the insides into a large bowl along with the sugar and the salt. Mix well, breaking up lumps in the sugar.
Cut the butter into small squares. Mix it in to the sugar (a wooden spoon works great for this) until thoroughly
blended, minimizing air addition (i.e.do not cream).
Stir in the chocolate and mix until fully blended.
Add the eggs, one by one, stirring each until it is fully incorporated before adding the next.
Blend in the flour slowly - this will take some effort. The mix should have the consistency of firm cookie dough.
Spread the mixture into the pan and smooth with a knife.
Bake at 350º F for 30 minutes. Cool completely and cut into squares as large as you want when you are ready to serve.

Those sound yummy, but I've got a box of the Ghiradelli brownie mix sitting on the counter. I ran out of eggs(thanks to omelet boy!) and finally got some more. I think those are on the agenda the next few days.

I've got the kids spoiled-homemade brownies are usually made with Hershey's Raspberry Chocolate chips!

Suzanne

Y'all are making me hungry... at least I have lunch here to eat!

I love that Ghiradelli recipe. I use it all the time! I do add a little less flour and a bit more chocolate than it calls for though. Just makes them a wee bit chewey-er. I don't add nuts or chocolate chips to mine though. Adding peanut butter chips might be really good!

And if I am too lazy, I will get the mix... still very good stuff!

Okay Alan, that Elmo is too cute :)

I love the Ghirardelli boxed brownies......Costco used to carry them and I would get them all the time. Now they have switched to Hershey's. Just not the same, so I make them from scratch.....but not very often ;)

I have the raspberry chocolate chips, but can't find them around here anymore. Same with the cinnamon chips. Love those!

Good afternoon, everyone!

Covering the reception desk at work until 1:00, so have some free DIS time :) Then, I'm going out to lunch with a couple of co-workers. We're going to the California Pizza Kitchen. I think I'll get tortilla soup and a half oriental chicken salad. Yum.

Elaine, not working on your birthday is nice. Last year was the first year I worked on my birthday in years.

Alan, Elmo sure is a cutie, isn't he. And what talent. He's almost as good as my beloved Scotty and Ray.

Suzanne, glad you are doing well. Don't over do it.

Rose Mary, sorry you are still not feeling great. Hope you are better soon

Nancy, that brownie recipie looks good. I may have to make them :)

Deena, where in Texas do you live? I can't remember. Do you live in the D/FW area?

Paula, -17? I continue to feel your pain.

Pam, -4? I feel your pain, too. Just think of your new favorite smiley--the phallic symbol

That will do it for now.

JellyrollsKaren

Darn, y'all are finding Elmo cute when he is supposed to be annoying :teeth:

Can't have people thinking I'm being sweet or nuttin'

Wow, I've heard of pedigrees on dogs, but you know the chicken is of mixed ancestry? I don't want to really know my food that well.

Okay, these are the things that ramble about in my empty head...sorry.

However, I'm leaving early today so keep warm Y'all-Y'alls and have a great weekend!

JRKaren--I live south of Houston. Im not sure what part of Dallas Krista is in but its about a 4.5 hour trip from our house to my bil/sil that live in Frisco which is north of Dallas.

OMG!! I paid $5 for someone to come in and demonstrate healthy cooking and then we were supposed to be able to eat it....YUCK!!! This was some nasty stuff!!

Tofu lasagna with soy meat...no cheese at all
Tofu chocolate pie with fake chocolate chips
Tofu eggless egg salad and fake mayonaise (called nayonaise...sounds like something you use for your nose!!)
Tofu fake chicken salad...chicken-like stuff looked more like cat food!

I think I was robbed!! The only thing I could eat was a black bean salsa that wasn't too bad...however, that was five dollars I could have spent on a big ole big mac with some fatty fries and a large diet coke. Oh and we did get cucumber flavored water! UGH!!

Okay, going to a grant writing session...another fun way to spend an evening!!

Oh and Nancy...I checked for sparklies before I opened the envelope!!! hehehe Didn't want Ethan trying those for a new solid food!!

Gotta run...enjoy the day!!
tara

:rotfl:

I'm sorry, I know many people who love tofu... that would NOT be me though. I've tried it several times and it usually comes out NASTY! Give me real food and not the tofu stuff!

(no offense to tofu lovers ;))

btw, if you want a hint to my diet... eat kids meals... no joke... they run about 500-650 calories total (coke included... otherwise about 400-550) and not so bad if your other meals are smaller :)

Deena - I'm in Fort Worth and Kathy is in Flower Mound, but there are DISers all over the Metroplex. Our meets so far have been in the Grapevine/Lewisville area because it is fairly central to most of us - and it's not far from Frisco. That would be cool if you could come up when JRKaren comes to town ::yes::.

Afternoon Ya Ya's!

Jonathan enjoyed shadowing Grandma. :) He enjoyed having a day off school, more. :teeth:

My SIL just dropped her old car off here. She bought a new car and gave Junior her old one. :bounce: It needs a little bit of work, but he's thrilled. We've needed a second car for awhile now. They just left to go change the title.

All this brownie talk has me craving brownies. Mmm. I love brownies, but I'm really the only one that loves them, so rarely make them.

Elaine, sounds like a good sleep. I could use one of those. :teeth:

Rose Mary, be sure to let us know what you buy at the mall. ::yes::

JRKaren, enjoy CPK. I have never been. They built one about an hour away, so maybe someday I'll try it.

Tara, ICK! Those are some nasty sounding foods. :earseek:

Deena, sorry to hear about your plumbing problems.

Hi YaYas...

This thread is dangerous! Too many cookies, cakes and brownies floating around!

no offense to tofu lovers
None taken.

Christin came by today and took one of the cats with her. We'll see how that goes. I miss her already....the cat
:p Snerk! :p

Karen, a hug to you! I wish I could do or say something that would really truly help, but know I'm thinking of you, okay?

Hummus rocks!

Stacy... it sounds as though the birthday plans are going smoothly! Have a wonderful time this weekend and... a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY to your DH!

Suzanne, high fives to the surgery team! Glad to hear you had a good group working on you! Yay for Vicodin! 'Tis a wonderful thing!

Tara, you CANNOT be an old fart!! I think it's safe to say I'm a decade or two older than you and I don't wanna be old yet, so you can't be!! A fart yes, but old... no! ;)

I think I'll get tortilla soup and a half oriental chicken salad. Yum.

but you know the chicken is of mixed ancestry? I don't want to really know my food that well.
:rotfl: Snicker snork! :rotfl:

Pam partied all night? :cool1:

Hi Caroline! Eh... I don't have the hair quite the way I want it yet, but when I do I'll let someone take a pic.

Bleh day. Ho hum.

I wish ya'll would quit talking about brownies! I've still got the craving, but I did buy a box of turtle brownie mix at the store :teeth: . guess I'm gonna have to go make them. Better yet, I'll make them Sun so I can share them at work on Mon.

 Kimmie! You tell Tara, humpff, I'm never growing up so I'm never getting old! ;)

Suzanne, Thanks for the offer of lodging for next weekend. Especially after I had to cancel my Disney trip this weekend. AND can you believe the nerve of my sister! She actually called to tell me they had checked in to AKL.

JRKaren, Thanks for the get well wishes. You warming up any? Cute piano player. ;)

Pam- Surely there was something you could have done with all that   that would have made your husband happy  . :teeth:

Sherry-BAB store is a very, very dangerous place. Too many cool clothes, sales clerks were staring at me 'cause I kept oohing & aahing and going back and forth. But, Hope ended up with a very cute Valentine's outfit. Red,white & pink pants w/hearts w/matching white top with hearts, pink fuzzy flip flops & pink bows. She is so cute!
Didn't buy much for myself except a Super Bowl shirt and some new underthings. Can't believe I went in YC and Bath & Body and came out empty handed. Guess it had something to do with the ole sniffer still not working properly.
Karen-You hang in there. I can so personally relate to what you are going
thru. Wish we lived closer so we could team up and work together on the quitting thing. I have NO willpower but, this bronchitis thing is icky.

Later gators.............. puckerup: :rose:

Hey all,

It's been a very very rough day. I left work early for several reasons. I am ultra cranky from not smoking, I have a cyst on my leg that is so exquisitly painful I can barely walk....thanks to Prednisone as it makes you infect very very easily, and Im so tired. My youngest this morning decided to take his tiredness and not wanting to go to school out on me. He ran away from me several times, ran across the street twice. I had to chase him down. He refused to walk with me. I was in tears with dh on the phone asking him to please come and deal with him. I finally got him to the cafeteria where I promptly told him to go in and I loved him and I will see him laters. I was NOT going in there with him as I normally do. He finally did go in after a teacher shooed him inside and from what I understand he was crying. Maybe this taught him not to treat me that the way he did. He is also not going to Grandma and Grandpa's to pick up my eldest. He is staying home with me. I told him on the phone when dh had me talk to him when he picked him up that I would love a big hug and a big kiss when he got home and we would start all over again.

Sherry congrats on the car!!!

Suzanne I am so happy to hear you are doing so well!!! YEA!!!!

RM if you want to quit we can always call each other for support. Do you have a cellphone? By any chance are you on Cingular??

Elaine good luck on getting into that skirt. I know you will do it. Good idea about the kids meal. You can still have fast food but not with all the calories.

Nancy those brownies sound devine!!! I don't dare make brownies now though because I would probably eat the whole pan LOL.

We have decided no Kidz Church this Sunday. Dh wants me as stress free as possible. We will go to the kids bball games on Saturday as I cannot let them down and not go and besides that makes me more happy than anything. I know our childrens ministry director is not going to be happy that neither dh or I will be there since we are a big part of the service. I need my dh with me this weekend though. He has softened a lot since this morning and I just feel I need the support and someone with me helping to keep me honest. Thank you for all your support its much appreciated. Going off totally is very very rough. Right now if I had the energy I would cry. Im to down to cry if that makes sense. I really tried hard last week and did well for a couple of days but then I started cheating. I didnt go back totally but I was smoking some. This time I have cut cold turkey completely. I think the reason Im reacting so badly this time is that I know Im NOT going back. Before I wasn't as adamant as I am now. The conviction wasn't there as much as it is now. It's over this time.

Well dh just called me to dinner. I will check in with ya laters if ya'll can stand my whining. If it's bugging you just tell me to shut up okay?? You wont hurt my feelings.

HUGS TO ALL!!!!

RM...Hope's outfit sounds so cute. Got a picture?? :)
Elaine still waiting for your kids picture in their new outfits :teeth:

I caved and made a pan of the Ghirardelli Brownies. I will take them to Christin tomorrow....if there are any left

Sherry....great about the car. I can't imagine not having 2....this is actually the first time in many years that we don't have at least 3 sitting around here

Hmmmm....guess I'm a VERY old fart ;) I get to act it too then, right?? ;)

Karen....hope you get to relax over the weekend.

Okay, going to try loading Photoshop and see if I can get my photos back on this computer  I hate computer stuff!!

Just lurking as supper is finishing up... so I only have a few minutes. Cheddar biscuits are almost done :hyper:

But Nancy... impatient ;) Umm... maybe tonight or tomorrow. Back is killing me though, and I kind of want to lay down after eating. If I don't get to it tomorrow, you'll have to wait until after I get back :p

Real post later :teeth:
