Welcome to the WISH Biggest Loser 7 Challenge

Congratulations to the Superstars!
Congratulations to the losers
Congratulations to everyone who is sticking with this even if it is so very difficult. You know this is the best thing you can do to find that healthier lifestyle and be a healthier you!

We can do this!

QotD:
What is your favorite fruit to eat?
Yum, I love almost all fresh fruit. Yummmm! I really have to be careful to not overeat on fruit.

What is your favorite veggie to eat?
It is amazing that as I've grown up a bit that I find I love asparagus. Never would eat the stuff when I was younger. I love most veggies too esp if they are fresh. I do not like my veggies served with sauces, butter or such. Just fresh (raw) or steamed a bit.

What are your vacation plans for this year?
We went to DW in Jan for marathon weekend. (DVC timeshare helps here)
We will go to Cancun in May (timeshare)
We are planning a trip to DL Labor Day weekend where I will participate in the half marathon.

All of this is dependent on a good outcome for DH and his upcoming surgery. Tuesday he is having hip replacement.

Popping in to answer the QOTD:

Last year was the biggest vacation for us. We did a couple days of WDW, then the 15night WB Panama Canal Cruise and then a couple days at DL.

This year we have planned a week trip down to DL  and we're hoping for a Dismeet with diser's from last year's cruise.

:cheer2: :cheer2: Proud of how many people are still hanging in there! :cheer2: :cheer2:

Can I join please?
I was practically doing it (started on Jan 5th) but wasn't aware of this thread and hadn't joined it! I've already lost considerably... but I'd like to join anyway. I'm trying to lose as much as feasible by the time we cruise in May and then continue to lose- you know... for summer and the dreaded swimsuits. LOL

LMK if I can join and what I need to do to join at this late date? thanks!

(I sent the pm)

Question of the Day
What are your vacation plans for this year?
Are you planning any big trips?

We had a big vacation last year so I hope you guys can come up with some good plans so I can get excited for someone, anyone who is going away. My ds1 may be going to SPain in March to visit his girlfriend. He just got the approval from his boss that he can take the week off but now he needs to find a hotel and plane.

Have a great day everyone.
our big trip is May 23rd- June 7th. Took advantage of the bargain prices and cancelled our 10nt in 2010 for it! We're going to drive (so considerable drive time both ways -from Texas) and staying at FW for a week in our trailer (WDW trip obviously LOL) and then a 7nt western cruise. We're excited because we've ALWAYS had to wait over 2yrs for a cruise (first one and then 2nd one) but not this time!!! (we just got back in Sept from our Panama Canal cruise)

Other than that- no plans except the kids church camp, Girl Scouts camp, etc. LOL After our vacation this year we start saving like mad for our transatlantic cruise in 2010!

Favorite fruit: no such thing- love them all! LOL

Favorite veggies: I love my veggies- but if I had to choose favorites it would be asparagus, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, eggplant, yellow squash and spaghetti squash.

Friday Question of the Day - What is your specific measurable goal for this 12 week challenge?

I started Jan 5th and by the end of this challenge my goal is to lose 40lbs. I'm on my way!
(this is based solely on how much I lost in that amount of time at the beginning of when I lost all the weight in 2003.. so it's personally "possible"- so I'm working on copying what I did then and hopefully losing the same as back then!)
My ultimate goal though is to lose 55-60lbs by end of May though.... but that's the next challenge I suppose, right? Hehe

Good MOrnin Everyone We have about 6 inches of snow. Most schools have a delay as of right now. THis means that I am in exams from 9 until 1:35. The kids are going to be off because most of them are used to eating right at noon since that is when we get off during exams. I know I am going to be starving by the time exams end.

Congrats to the winner this week

HAve a great day everyone.

:rotfl:

Yesterday during a case (I work in surgery) the nurse anesthetist was asking my about the BL competition at DH's work.

Hi Princess V! Do you work in a hospital? If so, you might actually work in the one we're headed to in a couple of hours for DH's surgery! I know you said you live in the West Bend Area - we're actually going to Community Mem. in Menonomonee Falls (we live just west of Racine, though). How cool would that be to see a fellow BL7 Diser there?

Harleymom - you said you're dh was having surgery (you have been on my mind) how is he doing??

Thanks Jennz! Actually his surgery is at 10:00 this morning. I've been awake since about 3:30 (UGH!). I'm a medical coder, so I know the procedures he's having done today are pretty routine for the surgeon, but DH has never had surgery before so he's kinda nervous. I've packed my lunch (a turkey sandwich) along with a few extra 100-calorie snack packs to keep in my purse. He got news yesterday that there's a good chance that he'll be able to come home tonight. That would be awesome!

Congrats Carla Rae!!! :cheer2:

I'm taking my laptop with me and will try and get some work done while I'm waiting at the hospital. Of course I'll probably be spending more time on the DIS than actually working, though! :rotfl:

Congratulations to all you losers this week!!!!

For the ones with me that maintained or gained...we will not let it get us down, we will work harder and have a loss this week. I am determined to shake my body up..I think it has figured out what I'm doing and found a way to hold on to the weight. I know I've read where you have to keep it guessing so that is what I've been working on this week.

I was wondering where you are in the Leigh Valley? I have relatives in northeast pa (Wilkes Barre, Kingston, MOuntain Top)

I am originally from Lake Wallenpaupack, it is in the pocono mountains but now I live in Allentown, like the Billy Joel song. :)

Congratulations to all of the people on the list. You did great, keep it up.

I did the treadmill again last night for 2 miles, that is two nights in a row. I've been writing down everything that I eat, even gum. Hopefully Friday's weigh in will show all of my hard work. Friday is just 2 more days away, we can do this - Lisa.

Holy cramoly how did that week get by me! I have to make SURE the scale says some good numbers. I have been working hard and I played hard over the weekend, DH birthday dinner then the super bowl. Looks like I will be getting more than just my 3 veggies today!

Congrats to everyone that made the list this week, and for all of us who keep on plugging away at this. Just remember, for those who aren't seeing "their name in lights", sometimes the tortoise beats the hare. Slow and steady.

I've noticed at least for myself, when I've more gradually lost weight, I may put some back on, but when I've lost alot fast, I've always gained it back, plus some.

Here's a question, perhaps some of the ladies here can help me with. Although my wife isn't in this challenge, she also is trying to lose weight. She got a gym membership and is going anywhere from 3 - 5 days a week for 45-60 minutes each time. Then she also does the Wii Fit on most days that she doesn't go to the gym.

The issue is, she sees/hears me losing weight, by playing basketball once a week, doing the Wii Fit a couple times a week, and just cutting back on food. She on the other hand is down, but (in her mind) just a couple pounds.

It really seems to get to her. It's definitely a lopsided advantage. The one time we figured it out, I could be eating a Big Mac + a bit more than her each day, and still lose.

Any thoughts?

Hey all...been awol for a few weeks due to back and hip problems. I ate my self crazy. I finally got mentally hold of my self a whopping 3 days ago. I have decided to cut out processed sugar and as many preservative that I can. I've made it 2 whole days eating and drinking like someone who wants to accomplish something health. So far I haven't hit a point where I need to resist tempation. I'm not allowing tempation...I just plain don't want to eat anything so unhealth that it makes me sick...physically and emotionally.

I had a gyn appt yesterday and my BP number was very elevated for me...I'm usually 70/95 or so and yesterday I was 96/135. It made me take notice again.

Hopefully I'm back for the long haul. When I'm able to exercise I will be really happy.

Hi everyone,
Hey, Lucky's mom, you and I have a lot in common! I am from PA, have a DS16 and a DS12 and I was wondering the same thing about the BL post. I'm hoping to make the list this time.

I keep having this thought with this whole weight loss thing. It's so obvious, but if I say it to myself, it really hits me.

If I give up, I will always be unhappy, uncomfortable and unhealthy. If I keep thinking that, I should always keep trying, right? I have to think about that!

Wow - how true!
I'm from PA too - South East PA, not Dutch Country. I have a DD16 and a DS11 - our kids are very close in age!!

We definately will not let it get us down. Keep plugging away. I definately agree with your body getting used to it. Its best to vary your calories, exercise and everything you do during the week to keep it guessing.

Oh wow - where did all of the people from PA come from on this thread, lol!

I live in Quakertown - we are pretty close! I've really started spending more time in Allentown now that they did a lot to the Lehigh Valley Mall. It's really nice now - way better than the Montgomery Mall.

Men and Women are two totally different animals when it comes to weight loss. Men can lose on a lot more calories than women can. It all comes down to metabolism, size, height, testosterone, etc.

Does she know how many calories per day she is supposed to take in? Is she getting enough? You can also work out too much and eat to little and your body goes into starvation mode. This causes your metabolism to all but shut down and even though your working out hard, and hardly eating -you still don't lose anything. Your body then actually starts to canabolize it's own muscle for energy and saves and stores fat because it thinks your in a famine.

What plan does she do? If she is just watching what she is eating and cutting down on food - she may be cutting too far. Some of it does have to do with the fact that men lose at a faster rate though than women - so in the end it might just be the cause.

Hang in there - I hear you on getting back into gear and just going with only healthy stuff. I'm 3 days back on track only eating healthy stuff. If there isn't a nutritional reason to eat it - and it's not 100% organic or all natural (totally clean food - mostly in its natural state) - then I'm not eating it right now.

I feel so much more energy too - My blood sugar also seems to be doing better too, because I'm making sure to eat every few hours with nuts or something like that in between meals. I've cut out cereal (even healthy ones) and switched to oatmeal and fruit (sometimes eggs), or eggs and brown rice for breakfast - and wow do I feel so much better. It's 11:28 - I've had some soybeans for a snack - but I feel great!

Exactly what I'm going for...Oatmeal for breakfast as well as Monday's lunch. I didn't have anything to bring with me to school for lunch and I figured it was health and filling. Worked out just fine.

Currently I'm not counting calories as I figure if I choose health over crap that is a great choice. Once I get a handle on this I probably will make sure my calorie intake is in range. Though honestly I find I'm not eating as much stuff so the calorie intake should be fairly decent.

PS...I'm also from PA NE philly suburbs
