Hey and thanks! Welcome back yourself! ;)

As for Stitch's Great Escape, I think it would be great for your 6 11/2 YO, but I'm not so sure about Kate. It's all in the dark, and for the young kids, it might be a bit too much. But I'm only 16, no experience with little kids and rides at WDW, so I could be wrong! Hope that helps!

Thanks for the tip - I appreciate it. If it's to dark, I probably will sit out with BabyKate while DH and Stephanie go enjoy it (Stitch is DH's favorite character).

Morning guys,

I've finally got time to catch up.

DHSsenior007 a belated welcome back. So tell us more about your trip, what else did you do, where did you eat, what was your resort like?

ohanafamily how are you feeling today? I know who painful infected toenails can be. I hope your foot heals soon.

Last night we went to our friends house to do some Disney planning (and I have to say I love my Passporter which arrived yesterday.) We were hoping to book some backstage tours but they have to be booked at the 90 day window the same as restaurants. So we planned our itinary so we knew what we wanted to book and when. We want to be planned as we know it will be really busy at Christmas time. One quick question. Do you book the candle light processional at the 90 day window too? We wanted to book the meal package with it.

So what does everyone have planned for today? I plan todo some school work. I was going to get started on my garden work that needs doing but it is raining really hard right now so that will have to wait. I hope it doesn't rain tomorrow as I am going to Alton Towers (my favourite theme park) with my friend Den. But I am going again on Sunday with Pete anyway!! (I have an annual pass and I will use it!)

Have a great day everyone.

I love the Passporter too Danauk, I found it really helpful last year in planning our trip. Nothing much planned for today, early release day so the kids will be home by noon. Girls night out on Friday which you know means several selections off the dessert menu.

Good Morning.

In honor of you all, the family and I are headed to Hershey,PA to visit the chocolate factory tonight. Are there any requests???????

Is there anything to do there besides eat chocoate? Please tell me so. We are going with 5 couples and I am afraid I will be bored to tears

Bored to tears at Hershey???:scared1: Sista.. do you need a chocolate lesson???

For generations the name Hershey has been a household word synonymous with fine chocolate products throughout the country and around the world. The man who began it all, Milton S. Hershey, was satisfied to let his accomplishments and products speak for themselves.

Life of Milton S. Hershey
Born September 13, 1857 on a farm near Derry Church, a small Pennsylvania community, Milton Hershey was the only surviving child of Fannie and Henry Hershey. His mother raised him in the strict discipline of the Mennonite faith. Frequent family moves interrupted his schooling and left him with a limited education. He only completed the fourth grade.

Following a four-year apprenticeship with a Lancaster candy maker, he established his first candy making business in Philadelphia. That initial effort failed as did his next two attempts in Chicago and New York. Returning to Lancaster, PA in 1883, Hershey established the Lancaster Caramel Company, which quickly became an outstanding success. It was that business which established him as a candy maker and set the stage for future accomplishments.

Learning About Chocolate
Hershey became fascinated with German chocolate-making machinery exhibited at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition. He bought the equipment for his Lancaster plant and soon began producing a variety of chocolate creations. Hershey sold the Lancaster Caramel Co. for $1 million in 1900 in order to concentrate exclusively on his chocolate business. Three years later, he returned to Derry Church to build a new factory. There he could obtain the large supplies of fresh milk needed to perfect and produce fine milk chocolate.

Excited by the potential of milk chocolate, which at that time was a Swiss luxury product, Milton Hershey determined to develop a formula for milk chocolate and market and sell it to the American public. Through trial and error he created his own formula for milk chocolate. In 1903 he began construction on what was to become the world's largest chocolate manufacturing plant. The facility, completed in 1905, was designed to manufacture chocolate using the latest mass production techniques. HERSHEY'S milk chocolate quickly became the first nationally marketed product of its kind.

Milton Hershey's Model Town
milton_boys.jpg
With Milton Hershey's success came a profound sense of moral responsibility and benevolence. His ambitions were not limited to producing chocolate. Hershey envisioned a complete new community around his factory. He built a model town for his employees that included comfortable homes, an inexpensive public transportation system, a quality public school system and extensive recreational and cultural opportunities. Unlike other industrialists of his time, Hershey avoided building a faceless company town with row houses. He wanted a "real home town" with tree-lined streets, single- and two-family brick houses, and manicured lawns. He was concerned about providing adequate recreation and diversions, so he built a park that opened on April 24, 1907, and expanded rapidly over the next several years. Amusement rides, a swimming pool, and a ballroom were added. Soon, trolley cars and trains were bringing thousands of out-of-town visitors to the park.

Many of the town's impressive structures were built during the Great Depression, as part of Milton Hershey's "Great Building Campaign," to provide jobs. It was then that monumental structures such as THE HOTEL HERSHEY, community center, theatre, sports arena and stadium were constructed, transforming the town into a major tourist attraction that continues to grow in popularity each year.

Milton Hershey's business success allowed him to practice an extensive philanthropy. In 1909, unable to have children of their own, he and his wife Catherine established a school for orphan boys that today is known as the Milton S. Hershey School. In 1918, three years after Catherine's premature death, Milton Hershey endowed the school with his entire fortune of Hershey Chocolate Company stock. He took great pride in the growth of the school, the town, and his business. For the rest of his life, he always placed the quality of his product and the well-being of his workers ahead of profits.

Milton Hershey's Legacy
In 1935, Milton Hershey established The M.S. Hershey Foundation, a small, private charitable foundation to provide educational and cultural opportunities for local residents. The Foundation supports three entities: Hershey Museum and Hershey Gardens, the Hershey Theatre and the Hershey Community Archives.

In 1963, The Milton S. Hershey Medical Center of The Pennsylvania State University was founded with a $50 million award from the Milton Hershey School Trust Fund for construction and endowment, and $21.3 million from the U.S. Public Health Services. The College of Medicine enrolled its first students in 1967 and has conferred 2,182 doctor of medicine degrees.

The Milton S. Hershey Testamentary Trust makes an annual contribution to the Derry Township School District, the local public school district.

Since his death in 1945 at age 88, Milton Hershey's legacy has thrived with a constantly changing world. Today, Milton Hershey School, the institution he and his wife founded, nurtures more than 1,100 financially needy boys and girls in grades K-12. The school and the Hershey philanthropy are perpetuated through the holdings of the Milton Hershey School Trust, which in turn derives much of its support from the profits of Hershey Foods Corporation and Hershey Entertainment & Resorts Company.

Hershey Today
The town of Hershey continues to be a special place for its residents and a popular attraction for millions of visitors annually. Hershey Foods Corporation is the nation's leading manufacturer of confectionery products and Hershey Entertainment & Resorts continues to provide attractions and accommodations in Hershey that exceed guests' expectations. Indeed, Milton Hershey's accomplishments do speak for themselves.

His deeds are his monument. His life is our inspiration.

oooo Chocolate sista GEFFRIC, lots of nice links too. Thanks. But.......the families that are going with are big time shoppers-that I am not.... So I guess I can check out some of historic areas in and around town. I love the Amish stuff so that should be fun too. I didn't realize how close to Lancaster we would be! Thanks again!

Hi All,

CheeringMom, sounds fun... Hershey is good...
DanaUK, My foot is fine, the anti-biotics are making me a little loopy, but I am fine. My toe-nail should grow back in a year or so... I would try the Segway tour of EPCOT; that is supposed to be fun. We really enjoyed the "Keys to the kingdom" tour at MK. We decided that the longer ones at each park are better for us (no wasted travel times...)

DHS, :wave2: How is it going...

Nephosaurus, The Dragon special was OK, but they didn't really prove anything to me. They just showed that you all are possible.

Ian, you are just soo darn cute.....

SLO, thanks for caring, my foot will be OK...

It's all right. :teeth: I had to go to bed anyway.

Could use some opinions. Made spagetti sauce the other day and then made some lasagna. Well there were left overs for tonights dinner. I heated it up and ate my piece. Well DD was outside so I ate hers. I'm guessing since it's not chocolate it's not that mean.

If she notices it missing, blame the dog, the neighbors dog, or you DH... get her some fresh Pizza deliverred; she'll be fine...

:jumping2:

You got to be kidding about being bored at Hershey!

I haven't been there since moving to NC in 1998. Heshey Park has a great zoo area, coasters, shows, and some great eats. I might go there this year or next if we visit the in-laws during the summer (we used to get a discount/special park fall weekend day when FIL worked for BG&E.

I want to go to Hershey, PA!!! :Pinkbounc

I've watched some specials about Hershey, PA on the Travel Channel and it looks like a great place to visit. I'm planning on having our family go on vacation there when BabyKate is about 6 or 7 years old and Stephanie will be 11 or 12 years old - so I have about 5-6 more years to wait.

How is everyone today? Stephanie stayed home today with a little stomach virus - I'm hoping she will go back to school tomorrow. If she can't then she will have to go to work with me, which she loves to do. I think this makes her feel special because BabyKate never goes with me to work - to dangerous for her there.

The weather here in NW Indiana just doesn't feel like spring - so I have bought 2 Easter Lillies and 2 potted tulips. My house now definitly looks like spring and smells like spring :flower2: :flower2: :flower2: :flower2: :flower2: . In fact...the Easter Lillies smell so strong at times that they start to give me a little headache. But I don't care - I just love the look of spring in my house.

Well that is about it - Law and Order SVU is going to be starting soon, so I better be on my way. I hope you all have a good night and a great tomorrow!!!

slo
