With all the big what to do's about "welcome home" does anyone else feel kind of weird when you get a "welcome home" at a DVC resort that is not your "home"?

Seeing you're at one of Disney's "Home Away From Home" resorts, "Welcome Home" is always in order. I like it.

I like it, too. And I can't see how a CM can be expected to know if you're at your home resort or not. To me, home is the DVC, not just the BCV.

Since '99 we've stayed at BWV and our second home VWL many times. We get this special "welcome home" about 1/2 of the time. The lobby is shared by member and non-member sections, and on a busy day I'm sure it's easy for a CM to forget. Maybe they say it more often but I simply don't notice.

IMO I think this is something they should never have started. It's 2 words that don't come naturally to CM's, except perhaps at OKW where almost everyone stays there on points. Because it's CM policy to issue this to DVC members only, I think it becomes somewhat insincere, and presents a needless risk of cust sat issues, when someone forgets.

I think it is critically important to me. It should be simple for the CM's to do. To me it is what I paid all the bucks for, that little special treatment.

We certainly enjoy a hearty "Welcome Home" when we arrive at VWL and VB, but we have yet to stay at a DVC resort we don't own points at.

As I ponder this, I do think it may be better just to have it at your home resort, but I don't find it weird at others.
On a side note, we got a "Welcome Home" from the guard at The Poly last time we stayed there on points! I don't think he had any idea we were DVCers staying on points, but it was still kind of nice.

When you check in your reservation in the CMs computer will show you to be a DVC member. A simple "welcome home" shouldn't be beyond the capabilities of the person checking you in. It doesn't ruin my vacation if this doesn't happen, but a well trained CM would have no problem handling this simple gesture, IMO.

It's fine if they say it, no matter whther or not I am actuallystaying at my "home" resort. I don't get all bent if they don't say it though. I am just happy to be at WDW!!!!!

I enjoy the Welcome Homes we receive and have gotten it most times. The one time we didn't was a VWL which isn't our home but I think that has nothing to do with it.

It won't make or break my visit but is nice when it happens.

We really enjoyed hearing Welcome Home when we sailed on the DVC Member Cruise - a nice twist to the usual welcome aboard!

I guess I'm in the minority. I honestly do not see what the big deal about someone saying "Welcome Home" to me is. I can't even say whether or not anyone said this to me or me when I checked in.

I'm with you ripleysmom. Nobody loves their DVC home resort more than I love BWV, yet I think the whole thing is rather corny.
I don't know if they are cracking down on this at the DVC resorts now or what, but on our last stay at BWV, not only do they now have DVC Member printed on the parking permits but EVERYTIME we passed the security gate/valet the car the CMs would say it. After a few days, it actually got comical. We would be gone for a few hours and come back to BWV and get another hearty Welcome Home. After a while, it was a riot.

We stayed at the CR and every evening when we returned the guard Welcomed us home. It was very nice and didnt feel out of place at all. The effort was appreciated and did make us feel a little special. (It doesnt take much! LOL)
So I would say that any time someone goes out of their way to say something or do something nice, it enhances our experience. The intangibles is one of the reasons we put our money into DVC as opposed to other timeshares.

A month after DH & I bought into DVC, MIL & I were touring Vero Beach. I enjoyed getting the "Welcome Home".

I love my welcome home and cordially reply with many thanks for the welcome

Yes it is corny but so is a lot of WDW!

:jester:

thanks

My response is "It's good to be home". And it always is :)

We like the "welcome home" also. I don't feel it's necessary every time we pass through the front gate (as BWVDee said, it could get quite comical), but once at check-in would be nice. I don't see how it's so difficult to say for the CM's ?
As for feeling funny at other DVC resorts other than my "home" resort ------I don't. I feel every DVC resort is my "home".

Just as we enter the doors of VWL, there is a nice sign posted that says "Welcome Home". So even if the CM's forget to say it, it's nice to know the welcome mat is always there for us!

I agree that we are DVC members, not VWL members. So hearing a "Welcome Home" at any DVC resort seems appropriate to me. :)
