Weird Tasting Water

I don't think it tastes weird. Of course I live in Florida.

I am in DC up here and to me the water tastes weird here and bad in some places.

No--Florida water is not like Mexico. :confused3

My goodness! What's up with all the Buffalo folks on this thread?! Guess we have some very strong opinions about water! :rotfl2: :wave2:

haha! We sure love our fluoride and chlorine! Water...the universal uniter of Buffalonians! :grouphug:

My kids have gotten sick at WDW a couple of times (out of dozens of trips) and I blame it on the unwashed masses, not on the water! I think the water at WDW tastes fine, but I guess we are not too picky. We have moved several times and the only really bad water we have encountered is HERE....Dallas! The water is brownish and tastes like DIRT!!! The Brita filter helps, but it's still not perfect!! BTW, the Brita bottles have been discontinued, but I have found a few of them at local CVS stores!

I heard the water tastes weird at Disney World. I was hoping we could refill our water bottles from the fountains but if the water tastes weird, now what?

Why does it taste weird? What is weird about it?

Is it safe to drink? Or is it like the water in mexico (best to avoid)?

Do the Brita filter things work to get rid of the taste?

Thanks

get a water filter bottle from purewater2go

www.purewater2go.com

it has a water filter built into the bottle. easy to carry with you. just refill it at any water fountain or sink. I got my bottles a few weeks ago. what did we do without this product for so long!!

I just got my purewater2go bottles and I love them! I ordered the family pack of the 27oz sport bottles and a few extra filters. They are very handy, I definitely recommend them for everybody. You can just throw them in a bag or carry them anywhere. Just refill wherever you are.

We will just refill our water bottles and flavor them with the 4C iced tea packets!

That's what I'm planning on doing.

The building codes in Orlando now require any new construction or major remodeling to install water filtration systems. So, any of the the resorts that have been remodeling and many of the restaurants now have the filtration system. The water may taste slightly different than what you are used to, but it isn't bad.

Old drinking fountains or buildings that have not been updated to have the filtration system will not taste as good, however they are safe to drink.

I've never noticed a strange smell or taste to the water. :confused3

But I will be refilling in a restaurant on my next trip after reading about the drinking fountains. :crazy2:

What!!! No refilling from the baby bidets for you??? :rotfl2:

I used to live in Florida (west coast) and we (and everyone I knew) had the big water dispeser in the kitchen. I never got used to it.
I usually don't like Disani Water but when it WDW it is the way to go.

What do you mean the water tastes weird?

(Grew up in the south drinking the tap water ;) )

It doesn't bother me much, but filters do help the taste a bit. I think it would be easier to just bring one of those great big trays of bottled water you buy at the grocers. If you have room, that is :thumbsup2

I don't think that the water situation is only at WDW. My experience began when we went to a local Pizza Hut on International Drive (we stayed at a hotel in that area). Anyway, I ordered a Coke (w/ice) and it tasted funny. I thought that something was wrong w/the Coke so I sent it back, got another one and had the same problem. This time, I just went with water w/little to no ice. This was when I realized that it was the water.
We are going to WDW in the next 2 weeks and I am going to purchase bottled water and freeze it. I may even try one of those flavored drink packets.

Does anyone one know where you can buy the water bottles with filters or even just the filters ? We leave on Sat 8/12 so no time to order them.

Last year's trip the smell was so bad I about vomited every time I turned on a faucet or took a shower for that matter. It was pretty bad. Thank god for bottled water then. This year's trip as I was brushing my teeth I thought to go get a bottle of water to rinse but remembered we didn't buy any yet so I had to use the tap and it did not taste bad so I drank some and again it was fine. Actually the only time I smelled it on this trip was in the shower and at the Poly coming from the waterfall in the center of the building...So maybe Disney has beefed up the filtration around there or maybe the water is growing on me ...LOL

My understanding is the water is recycled bathroom water and if that is a rumor and not true I will be surprised as the water at WDW smells like a dirty toilet and I suspect even my dogs wouldn't be willing to lick water from their fountains!
That said, we did have luck freezing the water in our hotel room and using it in the park the next day. However, generally speaking I bought the bottled water with my DDP each day for the parks. I could not stand the water out of the fountains...YUK!!!

I was city raised and I can say that isn't any flouride or chlorine I ever tasted!
Now here in the country sometimes in the summer they add something to the water tower water...little funky, but tolerable.
I would not risk my vacation to that water there..good luck!

I personally think it smells slightly of chlorine, as does the ice (but obviously as it's made from water...) We just take advantage of our refillable mugs and use the water just to clean our teeth (and even then it tastes icky)!

We're from the UK though so I would imagine we have completely different water treatment systems... especially seeing as our water sometimes comes out of the tap with tiny rocks in it :lmao:

All American Water tastes weird. We only drink bottled when we are abroad.
