Weird Tasting Water

Dh and I were just talking about this last week when we took a quick trip to Orlando. We were drinking water from the tap at our condo and I mentioned how so many people on the boards think the water tastes funny down there. We both agreed that we've never noticed anything funny about it. I think OUR water tastes horrible. It's like drinking a swimming pool...the chemical taste is horrid so we usually drink bottled water. I just don't see the weird taste in the FL water :confused3

If you go to the "Have you ever had a shock" thread you would know why the water tastes funny.... :rotfl2: Its from all the people rinsing poopy bottom children in the drinking fountains. After you read some of the things people do in the drinking fountains you will only buy bottled water

Okay, Umm, EEEWWWW!!! :crazy2: I think I just changed my opinion of the fountains. Just refilling from resturants this trip. Why do people think they can do things like this? :confused3 WDW has some of the best baby comfort stations I've seen in parks, why use a fountain?

I always think the fountain water at the parks tastes "rusty"! When it is hot though, anything wet feels good! I plan on bringing bottled water with us for the end of Aug. but when that is gone for the day, we will just refill our water bottles and flavor them with the Crystal Light or 4C iced tea packets (I'm thinking that should disguise the taste)!

The water in Disney World tastes sorta gross to me, but I'm pretty spoiled when it comes to water- my dad sells water filters. The water tastes... I don't know how to describe it, other than "funny tasting". I thought I was the only one who noticed it! Well, it didn't make me or the rest of my family sick at all, so I guess it depends on the person.

Bring a water filter for your room. Buy one from my dad. They're good.:drinking:

This is great advertising! Woo hoo! :cool1:

I think the odd taste even spreads to most of the fountain sodas. It may be the odor. It is kind of like sulfur. I also think Starlight Ray's smells similar. I have a hard time eating inside that restaurant and I am not a scent sensitive person. That being said, I drink the water and the sodas and I occasionally eat at Starlight Ray's. I have never gotten sick from anything at WDW. Bottled water is awfully expensive at WDW. I would say test it and if you can stand it you should drink it.

I think there is a higher level of sulfates and chlorine in the water. I know when I take a shower, I smell like I've been in the swimming pool.

The water is a little bit different, not bad though. I guess it just takes a little bit of getting used to. Although when im in MK I do tend to prefer the gorgeous smoothies from Auntie Gravity's, they're totaly yummy !!

It tastes what I imagine to be unfiltered water. I'm guessing it is only filtered by the water treatment facility and not also at/near the fountain.

I've lived in FL my whole life and it tastes funky to me. It's the Disney ploy to get you to buy $3 bottles of Dasani! We've learned to bring our own.

We are flying in and using Magical Express, so we wont have any way to get off the Disney property to go to a store to buy bottled water.

Should be bring it with us on the plane, from home?

Is there a grocery store in the area that delivers?

Any ideas on how we could bring a case of water?

I don't mind it at all. To me it smelled a little "sulphuric", but I grew up with skunky smelling tap water from a well and it doesn't bother me.

We drank bottled water in the parks, but when we got back to the room, the first thing I did was fill a big cup with ice and drink water all night to try and re-hydrate.

You can purchase a brita fill and go bottle. They have filters inside that filter out the bad taste. This way you can refill with tap water, instead of buying bottled water.

We lived off the Crystal Light and Country Time drink packets in May. We've never really been bothered by the taste of the water at WDW, but we get kinda bored with water all day. We just kept refilling our water bottles at the water fountains (hopefully we used the ones that hadn't been mistaken as a "baby bidet"), and mixed our own lemonade or flavored tea. We've actually been hooked on them all summer and take them with us everywhere.

Drink up, me hearties! Yo, Ho! pirate:

just outside of DTD is a grocery store where you could buy some for cheaper than on property.

Hi Minessota! Question, is this grocery store reacheable by foot and walking with 2 children? :Pinkbounc I'm not renting a car and will use all Disney's transportation system, so this grocery store will be great for breakfast items in the room!
Thanks... :bitelip:

Florida water taste like Sea World to me. But that's my personal opinon. Our water in WNY is very cholrinated so I associate that taste with it being clean. WDW while not the tastiest in my opinion in NOT Mexico. You're not going to get sick, it's just not enjoyable.

Here is a little different take than the other replies:

My DH, DS and I can drink it fine. None of us have noticed a taste or smell that bothered us. My DD didn't notice a taste or smell either....but after 3 trips where she was vomiting on the third day of the trip......

I read on these boards that the high sulfur content of the water bothers some folks. So from that point on, no tap water for DD. Guess what? No more vomiting! :goodvibes

She started this at 4 years old...too young for it to be 'all in her mind'. She never complained about the taste or the smell. She is never, never sick! My son gets everything, but DD never gets sick. And none of us were ever sick at WDW but her, so I never thought it was a virus.

I cannot prove anything...but as long as I am taking her, she will never again drink WDW tap water.

Well Florida is notorious for it's bad tasting water (at least that's the opinion of all of us Buffalonians! ;)) but it certainly isn't bad for you. And you'll get used to it; trust me, if I can, anyone can! For the hydration purposes that Disney water drinking is basically for, it's good enough.

I've noticed that the water is different around WDW. It seems (maybe this is my imagination, can anyone back it up?) that the water at MK and surrounding hotels is terrible (by terrible I mean sulphur-y). Water at Epcot/MGM is similarly bad. In AK, AKL and CSR, the water is actually pretty good.

Anyone else notice this, or am I imagining things?

My goodness! What's up with all the Buffalo folks on this thread?! Guess we have some very strong opinions about water! :rotfl2: :wave2:

We noticed the water had a distinct sulphur smell and taste when we were there. Sulphates in drinking water can have a, how shall i put it, "laxitive effect" if you're not used to it but no real long term hazardous effects, especially if you're only drinking it on vacation. If you have an iron stomach like we do, pour some juice crystals into the fountain water to cover the taste.

Almacdonald is 100& right, when i was a child many moons ago ;) we lived about 30 mins from WDW and our water at home was fine, but i remember my mom taking about going to one of the beaches not daytona (cant remember the name right now) she said just the smell in the air of sulphur would make you sick and the water was just as bad...and the laxitive effect my 13 yr old son at the time of our Disney trip 10, he was amazed it how many times he was going, well you know.....LOL
