Once upon a time...
I was new in town and wasn't meeting many people. So I joined a dating service.

This was back in the olden days, when dating services were located in a brick and mortar building - not online. It cost a fortune, too. I had to pay to have photos taken, pay a membership fee, blah blah blah. Total scam.
I had VERY specific likes/dislikes and I wasn't open to meeting anyone who did not EXACTLY meet those specifications. If I had it to do over again I would meet EVERYONE who wanted to meet me, just to make new friends.
I think I went out with 4 people. They were all fine. Nothing spectacular, but fine.
But those membership fees were HIGH, and the contract was iron clad. There was NO WAY to get out of it. I decided to get a second job working the 8 PM - Midnight shift at the grocery store for extra money. The cashier supervisor was kind of a jerk when I asked about submitting an application, but whatever. The store manager hired me and he was really nice about working with the schedule from my full-time job.
Well, that jerk of a cashier supervisor and I started dating. Then I married him. The 19th anniversary of our first date was this month.
In a round-about way that stupid dating service did help me meet my spouse.

You never know.
