Weird for wanting to go to WDW?

Fortunately, we have not gotten any comments from our friends or family...even co-workers. But I believe that they "think" a lot of these comments I have read on here. We are going in September and then again in November with family members. And we're driving both times, too! I'm surprised we haven't gotten any flack from anyone about that. As many posters have said, everyone has their interests they like to spend their money on. I really think it's rude to make these sorts of remarks to people. I never say to someone, "Are you going camping again? You just went two weeks ago" It's what they like and I'm happy they are able to spend the money on the things they enjoy. It's not for me, it's for them.

When someone makes these kinds of comments about WDW, I think it is coming from a lack of understanding. They have either not been to WDW or have been and for some reason had a bad time due to lack of planning or knowing what is available there for their enjoyment. Many people just think it's an amusement park...that's it. My DMIL made a comment one time..."Do they have places to eat in the park". Of course, I didn't laugh at her, but it reinforces my belief that a lot of people just don't know.

I have a hard time planning another vacation because it means precious vacation time away from WDW....but that's my obsessed thinking. We bought into DVC very shortly after a trip to Vegas. I don't know if it was the stark contrast between the two vacation destinations that was the deciding factor in purchasing, but we like the comfortableness of WDW and we knew we would be going back again and again. We liked Vegas and would like to go back some day but it's not a place where we would go again and again. Some people do. For us WDW is our Vegas. And everyone has their WDW.

I don't see how going to Disney every year or so is any different than people who go to the lake or the beach every year. I live in Georgia, and almost everyone I know goes to SC, FL, or the Georgia barrier islands for vacation. Sometimes, when they go to Florida, they go to Disney/Universal, and sometimes they go to the beach.

And, for the poster who thinks Disney is a "luxury place," well, many of the people I know people spend as much or more on their beach vacations as on WDW. Whether middle class or not, budgeting and saving can definitely make WDW an affordable vacation.

Uh, because Disney is a luxury place that has a potential to get lots of people into major debt. The fact of the matter is it isn't a "cheap getaway".

That was nothing like your original quote which left myself and many others baffled. What does going to disney have to do with class. I have seen people who are quite well off stay at the values and people who are middle or lower class (as you like to refer them) stay at one of the deluxe resorts.

I hate it when people tell me i'm obsessed with Disney! Even my DH thinks i'm too obsessed.
Oh and to Mr./Mrs. high class....What is this 1912 where we still judge people for being in lower or middle class? What a ridiculous comment . I am in no way high class but I will tell you this I pay every single bill on time and just bought my first house and still am able to afford to go to disney 3-4 times a year. (thank you JC)

We just returned from our 3rd trip in 3 years. We heard a couple of comments, but more of "the silent look" that says, why would they go there again. I think some people wonder why we would spend the money, although this last trip was a gift. I don't care. It's now a special place for us.
What I love about going over and over is that we always find something we have not seen or done yet. We enjoy something for everyone, including great dinners on the dining plan which my dh loves!! We spent our last ride on small world pointing out all the things we had not noticed before on that ride.
The most important thing is we can all be kids. My dd age 10 tells us she loves it because she can act like a kid and not be worried about what her peers are thinking. I love that she can feel so free there and I do, too!!

WDW can be done with ANY Budget...

I've been 18 ? times.....during my 20's....I was able to plan a "Budget" visit...

I could "do Disney" for $1000!

Now - the last visit we went was around $8,000!....but both were very enjoyable visits.....

Everyone can enjoy a WDW Vacation!

As long as you have the money, don't go into debt, do what you want.

And do balance with some non-Disney adventures.

FIRST OF ALL: I love Disney!

2nd: Disney does everything they can to make your vacation easy and stress free. There are so many options for food, activities, and fun. Why NOT go there?

3rd: I hate when people act like I am weird. I don't tell too many people I come on this website because of the reactions I got when I first talked about it! "A MESSAGE BOARD FOR DISNEY? OK, SERIOUSLY, THAT IS KIND OF WEIRD." My favorite line will always be "DISNEY!? ISN'T THAT FOR KIDS?!!?"

We get that all the time. I even love to help others plan their trips. I live vicariously through them!

Someone once said to us, "You do realize there are other places to see in this country." Yes of course. But my life is so stressful at times I love my biggest decision while I am on vacation to be - Do I go to Adventureland or Fantasyland today?

I feel exactly this same way!!

I also love that I can let my son run ahead of me a few feet, and I don't have to worry about him running into a street. We talked this year about a trip to New York or Chicago - but I just don't see doing it until our little man is a bit older and it won't be quite so stressful for all of us. We try to take a few smaller trips within Texas, or to visit family in neighboring states, but our 'big' trips are to Disney.

The comment I get from my co-workers all the time is "You know there's other places to go on vacation". Well, we've gone to lots of other places in the U.S. for vacations, but guess where we like to go back to again and again. That's right, good ol' Disney World. Where a 48 year old man can act like a kid for just a little while and forget about the job and the stresses of life. We may take the occasional side trip to a national park or a beach somewhere but we'll always come back home to Disney.

Yeah I get that alot, I am 18 and for me to enjoy Disney as much as I do at this age is apparently a negative. Throughout high school I was told daily about how I am obsessed I am with Disney and how crazy I am. College is considerably different in the fact that I do not get told how crazy I am for it.

As I am sure others have been told that there are other places to vacation, but to me there is no other place I would rather go because WDW is the total package and never a disappointment. If it aint broke dont fix it.

Get it all the time! I say that it is for the grandchildren, but really it is for me! When the grandchildren decide that they would rather go somewhere else, I will let their parents take them and I will continue to go just for me!

She apparently has been to WDW once and stayed at "some asian place" which I"m guessing she means the Polynesian. And she said it was bad food and a lot of crowds.

Anyway, I really don't appreciate being treated like I have a problem. It's not like I'm taking drugs, drinking, etc. Geez. It's only a vacation spot I enjoy going to so why do these people act like they are so superior? What if I said I love going to Hawaii every year? I wouldn't get nearly as much flack.

People that act superior about not "liking" WDW are just jealous and wish they could go as often as some of us. They also feel like they are missing out on the magic and need to be rude and condescending in order to justify their own shallowness.

Its so weird that someone started this thread because about a week ago I was visiting my aunt and she asked if we were going away and of course I said yes "to Disney". She rolled her eyes and told me that we are nuts for going again..... This particular time I sort of had my feelings hurt.

I have always dealt with this here or there but I feel like my BEST childhood memories are of being in Disney with my parents, grandmom, siblings etc. I wanted so bad to say that maybe she just hadn't experienced Disney the "right" way and had missed out. But I didn't and I let it go, but I feel annoyed when people look at me funny.

I also know someone who has two kids (5 and 8) and said she was disappointed that she was going to Disney because she had already been there......she said she never visits the same place twice. She also said that she hated Disney....ugh! How can you not want to take your kids to the happiest place on earth....just cause you hate it!

Some people think it is a very inauthentic place. They say they would rather see the real deal: the real Paris, the real Germany, etc. And theme parks turn these people off. But I get bored on vacation when there isn't a lot to do.

My mom is on the phone with one of her friends right now and is telling her that we're going back in August and she's trying to explain "Well its really been almost two years since the last time we went....well no we're staying at a different resort...no no its a Disney resort....well yes Disney has lots of resorts and we try a different one every time. I don't think anyone is weird for wanting to go to WDW. It's a lot of fun and there's a lot to enjoy. We've been many times and always have fun.

That said, I DO think it's weird if someone limits themselves and their family to only vacationing at WDW and never takes the opportunity to travel anywhere else. The Disneyfied version of the world is really enjoyable but the real thing is pretty amazing too! I believe in diversified experiences for my clan.

I LOVE WDW, most of my friends think I am crazy. I live in Chicago and go 1-4 times a year. I have an annual pass...and sometimes rent DVC points.

I love the planning...finding a great deal... etc. of the whole trip. Maybe even more than taking the trip...maybe not

I go on "mommy" trips there with out kids...and trips with my kids. Sometimes my DH comes mostly not. We spend a lot of time with grandma there and we love it. I have young kids (2 and 4) and find that it is an easy family vacation.

I don't have to think about renting a car and a carseat...and what to do with the kids...and can we go back to the hotel and nap...

Disney (IMO) has everything for little kids, and adults. I love it.

I love trying new resorts and new places to eat...

We take our time and don't try to cram all of the "magic" into one trip so there are always new things to do. We enjoy ourselves, take naps swim at the pool...

Some disagree, but for me Disney is the way to go. When the kids are older we will probaly go less, but for now it is ideal for me.

I agree with you 100%. I always find that there's usually plenty to do in other places too. I guess it depends on a person's expectations.
