Weird and Ninja’s Pre-Disneymoon [Completed!]

Monday: April 5: The Tube Diver

I just had to comment on this because one time we went to an aquarium and they had the jellyfish display filled up with plastic bags because they most closely resembled the jellyfish and how they moved, so they could test out the conditions of the tank. I know I had a picture of it, but I can't find it now. So, it sounds like you remembered the information correctly!

Comment on Manatees Update:

I like manatees too. Nice pictures!

I have to say, I hate when people mention the Veggie Tales! I used to work at Chuck E Cheese in high school and one of the tapes they played over and over and over again had the Veggie Tales on it. I always got the songs stuck in my head and ever since then whenever I hear Veggie Tales mentioned, I start singing, "Oh, where is my hairbrush?" in my head for the next few days!

Comment on Crush Update:

Nice close up picture of Crush's face! We got stuck waiting for another whole show also. Did you get the certificate mailed to you when you did the little quiz thing?

That's funny that your dad fell asleep while you were waiting!

When we saw Turtle Talk it wasn't that good either. It was funny, but nothing compared to Monsters, Inc laugh Floor which we love so much better!

I love that scuba diving Mickey! If I make it back soon, I might just have to buy it!

I also really wanted a Kooky pen, but couldn't decide which one to buy for so much money and then never ended up getting one. I'm still sad about that!

Comment on Figment Update:

We rode that ride once and I did not enjoy it. Neither did DH or DSis. We didn't see what all the fuss was about. But that shirt is really cute!

Comment on Club Cool Update:

I think the Chinese drink was my favorite.

Weird had a great Beverly reaction!! I loved watching people in there try the Beverly and then try to get their family members to try it after they learned how gross it was. It's a good people watching spot when it's busy.

I hate it when you post about VMK because it makes me sad I never played it! It looks like it would be fun.

I agree with you about some of the vinylmations being creepy! I wouldn't want some of them either so I would never buy them. I don't lik ebuying things that I don't know exactly what I'm getting.

Monday, April 5: Disney Feet to Test Track

When we got tired of walking on the sticky floors in Club Cool, we stepped out to watch the water show in the Fountain of Nations. Did you know that representatives from many countries each poured a gallon of water from their homeland into the fountain? I think that's pretty cool! Definitely represents Epcot.

See all the fun facts you learn on the DIS!?

feet.jpg

Yes, those are all pictures of my feet in Disney! Weird's feet are in some of them too. I have a tendency to constantly click the camera button over and over again when I'm holding it. What I didn't know was that I actually had left it on, so I captured a ton of pics of my feet! But hey, they're feet on Disney ground! Haha, I also got part of my outfit and a glimpse of my bag in this last one.

That is an awesome collage of pictures!! :goodvibes

I really love the way the single rider line works. For those of you who may not know, single riders are basically used to fill in whatever available seat there is in the ride vehicle. That means that it's better for Disney to get more people on each car and it's better for people who just don't want to wait! Of course, there are signs posted everywhere that say you'll get separated from your party, but in our case, we knew that we had a better chance of getting 2 to the same car since there were 4 of us.

I *love* single rider lines! We used them more at Universal than Disney, but we rode Spiderman and Mummy like 15 times back to back because of them!

After the ride, we walked through the showroom. I wasn't interested because well ... haha, cars don't interest me. I can drive my car. That's it. Even now as Weird and I are talking about what car to buy, I immediately say that I'd like the car I have now! Unfortunately, Weird doesn't like the CR-V, but I'm comfortable driving it. Just a cliff notes version, when I was in college, my family got into a car accident. Not sure if it was insurance fraud or what because we were squished between 2 work vans. The van that crashed into us from behind claimed his brakes weren't working, but later on, police found that wasn't true. The vehicle hit our car where I was sitting in the minivan (the seatbelt locked into place because it crushed the part that pulls it back). I was fine at first, but the cops said I'd probably start feeling it later. When we were still sitting there, my back started hurting so they called an ambulance. I didn't go to the hospital then, but when we got back home, it was hurting so bad so my parents said we HAD to go. Basically, I had to stay home from school for a week because it was so bad. I couldn't get in an out of bed; doing so made me cry each time. After months of physical therapy, it's pretty much back to normal. I do still have a pinched nerve that feels weird every now and then. That spot used to be my "rain spot" too. I could predict whether or not it was going to rain because that spot would kill me! Haha, I was better than the weatherman.

That sounds scary. No wonder you didn't want to drive after that! I don't get the male fascination with cars either! If it gets me from point A to point B safely it works for me!

I could NEVER drive a car this huge! I could LIVE in a car this huge though. I think I could give birth to and raise triplets in this car.

:rotfl::lmao::thumbsup2

Electric Umbrella update:

I agree that is a really weird placement for the plant!

You are making me want to read KK now!

I bet you're glad he waited to do it at the retreat than at WDW!

I loved both those parts of The Office you mentioned. I had forgotten about when Jim faked her out by tying his shoe. (We're going to watch the one where they get married tonight...I will think of you since you just mentioned it the other day!)

Haha I don't know if Rae is gonna mention this, but I actually did take pictures of signage with the intent on spelling out the words, "Will you marry me?" so that when I actually did propose, I could say it was done in WDW! I was only able to get the "Wi" from Winnie the Pooh though. It's not as easy as I had imagined!!

I actually stopped watching The Office pretty much after Jim and Pam got married because that was all I needed to see from the series. Don't get me wrong, I love The Office, but I knew it had to end eventually and being able to see them get married was the perfect ending for me. Why they had to drag out another season is just beyond me, but I haven't seen enough of it to judge, so I won't! Enjoy the episode!

That's a really cute idea! I can imagine it would be hard to accomplish though.

I kind of feel the same way about The Office, but I know I'll keep watching it anyway.

I have never had a turkey leg but they always look delicious to me when I see others eating them. Do you like them? I am not a big fan of that turkey flavor, like when you eat a turkey sandwich, but for some reason I wouldn't imagine the turkey legs to taste like that. Maybe I just think they look yummy because you always see people in cartoons eating them!

Ugh that line looks like no fun! The worse line we have ever had for CS at WDW was at the Flame Tree Barbecue place in AK. That was when I went for Spring Break with DH and my sister in 2009. We thought it would be a good idea if I grabbed us a table and they waited in line for the food. Well, I sat at that table waiting for them for over an hour! By the time they brought the food I was so hot I couldn't even eat. :headache:

Electric umbrella is always sooo crowded when we go there. I think you're right, they don't have a really good system for distributing food.

I love it when people do things on vacation that they wouldn't normally do, like when your mom ate french fries! I just love the feeling of everyone stepping outside the "norm" and having a great time! :goodvibes

I'm not that big of a fan of the turkey legs. The first time we ever had it was at Animal Kingdom when I was in junior high. It was the best tasting thing we had EVER eaten. My family all split one and my cousins' family all split one. We just sat there with our dad holding it and we just gnawed. The next time we were back at Disney, we tried it again, and I just wasn't that into it. I don't think I was in the mood for meat. Though it was okay, it just didn't satisfy me that day at AK. I don't eat it anymore. I may eat a bite or two if they need help (or when I ordered a salad and mom wanted me to have more protein), but I guess I'm over it. I think the hassle of eating it just turns me off. Plus, one time we got two of them, the one my mom and I shared was a little dry and we didn't enjoy it. When we had some of my dad's, we were like, "Mmm, this is what we remembered!"

As for the taste, I don't think it's actually very turkey-y. I think it's more like smoked ham. I think they're worth a try if you're willing to eat it. It can be very good! If you're okay with eating a lot of meat, it can be quite yummy. I just don't like meat in general.

WHOA, that's a crazy line! When we went to MK this past trip, they gave us coupons to use if we went before 11? Or 11:30? I forgot the time. But it forced us to go earlier since they were trying to get the crowds to spread out more. It was excellent for us because there was pretty much NO wait and the upstairs dining room for Columbia Harbour House was pretty much empty! I think we'll do that from now on - eat very early. I think eating AFTER the rush is too difficult because I don't think I could wait that long.

It does baffle me how some lines can take forever when it's the same food. It should work similarly to fast food restaurants because it's off a set menu. There's actually less at the CS places than fast food!

Vacations are for splurging! She's so silly though because she still can't do it all the time. Like she didn't want to get a Dole Whip, but I promised her ahead of time that I would buy her one because I knew she wouldn't spend the money on it. I get not wanting to get a plain vanilla cone or something, but Dole Whips are exclusively WDW (haha, and Hawaii). Why wouldn't we get it to enjoy?

I've actually heard that from several people about KK-- that the writing is pretty stilted. I'm actually a book editor, so little things like mixing up character names/placement would kill me. Still think I'll give at least the first one a trip-- maybe on my super long flight to Vegas in a couple of weeks!
That poor little girl-- I feel like so many parents just push their kids at Disney even when they're giving them plain signs that they're tired. Not cool.
Haha love that your mom had the baggie and ice in her bag-- such a mom thing to do!

Oh cool, you're a book editor! Yeah, I understand a grammatical error here or there just because it's writing for "kids." I would see that the author was trying to create a certain mood by writing a certain way. Mixing up characters, however, is just a big no-no! Out of all the KK books though, I like the 1st one the most. Maybe because it's not as complicated? Well, also because KK2 is in Animal Kingdom, and I had trouble picturing it since I've only been to the park once around when it first opened. KK3 was good because it was Epcot + a bit of DHS, but not as park-heavy as KK1. I'll still continue reading them though because I'm hooked!

Yeah, I felt bad for the girl because I myself was tired! And if adults can get grouchy because they're overtired or too hungry or too hot, why wouldn't a little kid feel that way? And yet they're usually scolded for misbehaving when all they're doing is reacting to being overstimulated.

When Weird and I go on our own, I'm going to have to have the "mom" bag (even though I won't be a mom!)!

I ordered the first book in the KK series so I'll have to tell you what I think after I'm all done. I'm in the middle of another book, though so it may be a little while.

Those turkey legs are huge! My husband got one on a previous trip and could barely make it through half of it. It makes me full just looking at it!

I love that your parents enjoy Disney. I keep trying to convince my parents to do a bigger family trip, but still no luck. although they come a lot closer when my daughter asks them to go.

Woohoo! Can't wait to see what you think after you read it! It took me forever to finally start reading it too. My student kept telling me I had to read it (I actually had his copy; he later bought me my own copies of KK1 and KK2 as a gift). When I fell rollerblading during a school trip and injured my tailbone, he and his mom went back to school to grab my bag and the KK book to drop it off at my house (I'm closer to them especially because the mom went in the ambulance with me to the hospital; oh, and they LOVE Disney obsessively!). Since all I could do was lie down on my back, I read through the entire book!

Yeah, the turkey legs are gigantic! It's sooo much meat, and I'm not a fan of that much meat! I think that's why the first time eating it was the best. My parents and I were sharing one (when Matt was a baby), so we each had the right amount. It was enough to be somewhat satisifed yet still want more.

Hehe, gotta get your DD to keep asking them! That'll be a fun experience for your DD, I think, and for your parents. It must be such an adventure to see these things through a grandchild's eyes.

Test Track is such a great ride :thumbsup2

I'm trying to place Electric Umbrella. I know I've passed it before but I just can't remember. It looked so busy when you were there

Aww wow did your mom really finish off that box of fries all by herself? Hehe my mom always carries baggies too. I'd like to start doing that when I go out without her, because they come in handy!

I remember being slightly nervous the first time I rode Test Track! Wasn't sure if the outside part would be too fast! We keep trying to get my mom to go, but I know she wouldn't like the outside part (she gets dizzy rather easily).

Electric Umbrella is across from one of the entrances to MouseGears. Haha, I can't place it very easily either. I don't know Epcot as well as I know MK. Even then, I'm still directionally challenged ... haha.

My mom didn't finish all the fries, just what was left. She's very anti-wasting food! We were so stuffed that we couldn't even think about it, but she was able to down them!

Baggies are used for EVERYTHING! Haha, so many times I've been in a situation where a baggie would've come in handy! I've gotta start carrying them too, especially if Weird and I got to WDW on our own!

Haha the next time we go (Disneymoon? :D) we have to take pictures with the lights above the tables at the Electric Umbrella!

Even though I said you needed a nap at some points, I'm really glad you didn't take one! It would've been weird for me to sit around while you napped. What would I do without you??

YESSS to DISNEYMOON! We gotta take more pics next time. I know you took a lot of pics, but you took a lot of the same thing. I have to take more pics of just everything I see. Even when you and I took pics of the same subject, they often came out different. I like being able to compare! Plus, more variety to choose from for the TR!

On our Disneymoon, we'll go see shows like Hall of Presidents or The American Adventure and take a nap in there!

I've been off the DIS for a few days and had 3 updates to read - you've been busy, girl!

Loved the video of Weird trying Beverly - I can't believe he actually drank the whole thing!

On TT, I've never noticed Mickey in the office during the ride - I'm going to have to watch for that next time - thanks!

Yup! I went through a phase. Haha, I think the phase is over because I'm exhausted! I only have 2 more days of work for my summer job though, so I can finally relax for 3 weeks until the school year starts up again!

Hehe, that was my "trick" with the Beverly. I mean, he knew about it and knew he had to try it to be a true DISer. He didn't have to drink the whole thing though ... it was just a "suggestion"! Haha.

Yup! There's a Mickey on the right side in the office by the window! Its back is to us though, if I remember correctly. There's another fun thing in the ride too, but I'll mention that when I write about when we ride it again!

Wow! Two updates to catch up on! I enjoyed your TT update the most. I like that ride, but boy the lines! Maybe I should try single rider next time.

I feel ya on the not liking to drive. I don't mind driving locallly, but I won't drive in a lot of traffic or on the freeways. It makes me too nervous! My co-workers make fun of me all the time, but I don't care. I go where I need to. LOL!

I have eaten at the Electric Umbrella before. Loooonnng time ago! It was good. I think I had the cheeseburger. I'm so glad that you are even enjoying the smallest moments with Weird. It makes me smile when you talk about long lines, but how nice it is that Weird is with you making it better. :goodvibes

Yeah, those TT lines can get crazy! I'd like to go on the regular line in the morning or something though because I'd like to see the queue. I've only seen it once, and I think it'd be fun!

I haven't driven on a busy highway yet. I drive on a 2-lane parkway that's not that crowded. If I drove on the highway, I'd probably freak. Haha, love the right lane!

It's amazing how the mundane can be so fun with a good friend. I mean, I'd be bored out of my mind on Saturdays if I were alone watching stuff on the Discovery Channel or Sci channel. But somehow, it's so much fun with Weird because we comment on things and laugh!

Wow! Look at you with all those updates!

I'll never remember what all I wanted to comment on, and for some reason I didn't take notes! :confused3

Figment is something we always ride, just because it's cute and there's rarely a line...we normally go on during Evening Extra Magic Hours. We've never taken the time, though to really explore the line area like you got to do...And I've never seen Flubber, either! But Honey I Shrunk the Kids was one of my most favorite movies growing up & I've since shown it to the kids who like it, too! Now they'll be able to appreciate that playground at Hollywood Studios more! On with Figment, the kids used to cry when they were smaller when we got to the skunk room. And I always forget about that blast of air--gets me every time! :rotfl2:

Aw, your Dreamfinder experience was bad...and then to have lost the picture on top of it all.

And Weird is brave for drinking that whole cup of Beverly...Wow!

Cute collage of feet pictures! That actually a good idea, to do on purpose. You could take pictures of your feet from all over the parks and then put them all together in a collage like that! :goodvibes I may have to do that...

And yay for Test Track! I've always wanted to just go on the Single Rider line, but don't want to ride by myself. I am almost almost finished with Kingdom Keepers II, so I can only imagine what is in store in KKIII!

Cute umbrellas! Those plants may have been at the bottom of the stairs earlier in the day to block off the upstairs part of the seating area from guests. I think I've seen them there before when they don't want people going up there for whatever reason (not crowded enough?!)

I enjoy your VMK pictures, too! I never played, but it's neat to see all your rooms and things you did...especially since it was part of Kingdom Keepers...

I'll have to try to keep up better in the future!

Yeah, I think we'll probably still go to Figment. I'm very into rides, like the idea of sitting down and being moved from place to place. That's also why I love the Hershey Chocolate World ride! It's just so fun to sit and be transported to see all these things, even if it's as special as a Fantasyland dark ride!

As old-fashioned as HISTA is (in terms of the movie), it was definitely a hit. I mean, the story concept is fantastic! I don't think they necessarily make good movies like that anymore. I mean, it wasn't inappropriate in any way. It's just family fun!

I think feet pics in Disney would be such a cute game! Like a "Guess where I am now" kind of game. That could be fun for a PTR!

I wonder if you've finished KK2 by now. Ooo, I wonder what you're going to think about the ending!

Oh yeah, that could be a possibility for the plant in front of the stairs! I didn't think about that. Like when they put the rope to block the upstairs of Columbia Harbour House or something.

I still hold out hope that one day they'll bring back VMK. I don't care even if I have to start all over again because I obviously won't have all the things I bought or traded to get, but it's okay. I think the community is just so fun.

Two updates?! You've been busy! :thumbsup2

I had no clue about the fountain and people from all of those different countries pouring water into it. HOW NEAT! I love all of the little touches that Disney does--things like this make it so special.

Your shoe pics are hilarious. I bet you were really surprised when you found out that you'd been taking pictures the whole time! And your car comments cracked me up! You look so small in that huge car.

Wow, I can see why you're not fond of cars though. I've been in one really bad wreck when I was little (my mom flew out and broke her collar bone), and then I was rear-ended in college, and I freak out sometimes. I can't imagine being in a wreck as big as yours. That's awesome that you're able to drive and not be so scared now though! Oh--and I love CRVs! Michael and I either want that or a Rav4 for our next car. My parents just bought a Rav4 and they love it.

I've never even been inside the Electric Umbrella...those umbrellas on the walls look neat, though! Was the food good? And that was a weird placement of the plant. :confused3 Maybe it was an accident.

Great updates!

What a touching ceremony that must have been to see all the representatives pouring in the water!

Haha, YES, when Weird and I saw the shoe pics, we were cracking up because I kept pushing the button to go left and there were still more!

Oh man, can you imagine driving a car that huge? Ooo, thank God your mom was okay! What car do you have now? For a bit, Weird and I were looking at the VW Tiguan because he love VWs.

The food at Electric Umbrella was okay. I just had chicken nuggets, so it wasn't anything that special. I'm very easy to please though, so I didn't have anything to complain about! Weird really enjoyed his turkey sandwich though.

I'm so behind! I'm going to try to catch up before I have to go back to school. Between wedding stuff, vacation, and my broken laptop, I have been neglecting your TR, but I am going to remedy that by trying to comment on each post instead of a, "Hey! I'm caught up!!" post.

I love that you have a story for each animal that you hate! Do you hate sea creatures more than buffalo? I love sea creatures. They make me so excited whenever we go snorkeling...except for this one time I saw a huge red eel about 5 inches from my face! I started freaking out and because the water was so shallow and we were surrounded by reef I couldn't go anywhere.

I can't believe there was a line for Nemo either! I never noticed all the stuff you took pictures of because we moved through there so fast. Now I will know to look for it.

YAY! Irky's back! Haha, I forgot that you hadn't been on the TR because I was able to keep up with everything going on with your fabulous (MARRIED) life through Facebook. Plus, you see all my updates there too! Haha, especially all the wedding/Disney ones.

Woohoo for all the comments though! I do appreciate it; it's fun to be able to read all of it and not just the "I'm caught up" comment (even though that would've been understandable too!).

Hmmm, do I hate sea creatures more than buffalo? I think I hate them equally as much. I freak out for both! The other day I was reading an old issue of Reader's Digest and I turned the page and there was a full spread pic on both pages of 2 bison on a tennis court (they were wild bison and appeared in a town, and they finally cornered them on a tennis court). I almost dropped the magazine. I'd never be able to go snorkeling or ... uhhh, bison ... ing.

Yeah, queue details are the ONLY good thing about lines!

Commenting on your Proposal Parts I&II:

I loved reading the whole story again! I'm so happy for both of you! Your ring is really pretty. The fact that you have meaning behind your wedding colors is awesome.

My DH (wow, first time I typed that!) didn't get down on one knee either. And I kind of had the same reaction as you, so I was glad to know I wasn't alone. It's weird how we had been together for so long, but I got nervous all of a sudden!

Hehe, Irky has a DH! Oh cool! It's fun to hear that you had a similar reaction. People thought I was so weird!!! They were like, "You said no?!?" It is very nerve-wracking! Haha, I guess it has to make up for the rest of the time we're together and we're super comfortable with each other.

I just told my mom about the Pam and Jim wedding because they went to Niagara Falls and there were 2 weddings at the hotel. I was like, "Yeah, but they didn't really get married at the little church; they got married on the boat!"

Oh wow! That's so cool that they would use the plastic bags to test out the conditions of the tank. That's something I wouldn't have though of so I learned again!

Haha, Veggietales is definitely the kind of stuff that just sticks in your head forever! I can see why it can be torturous! A funny thing about it is that on the last day of school, I played the story of Joseph for my 6th graders when they were eating leftover snacks from our party the previous day. The silly song during the "intermission" was "The Bellybutton Song" or whatever it's called. They made me play it again, and they all started singing along to it! I taped it because it was hilarious. All these kids who think they're cool singing Veggietales!

Oh, I don't think we finished the entire quiz for the Crush thing to plug in our email address for the certificate.

YES, Monsters Inc is just so much better!

Ooo, scuba Mickey is definitely perfect for you and Kevin!

I'd like a student to one day go, "Oh, I think Miss Ninja would like a Kooky pen." Haha, then instead of getting another set of lotion or candles, I could have a pen!

If they put chairs in Club Cool, I can imagine just sitting there relaxing with a cup or two of my favorite drink and people watching!

Oh, I hate it when I post about VMK too because it makes me sad that it's gone! I think a lot of friends I made on the TR section of DIS would play it, and it'd be fun to know more people in the game personally.

Yeah, if I were guaranteed a certain thing, then it'd be okay. I would rather pay the $6 (forgot how much each Vinylmation is) for something else. Or put that $6 towards a bag! Can never have too many of those!

See all the fun facts you learn on the DIS!?

That is an awesome collage of pictures!! :goodvibes

I *love* single rider lines! We used them more at Universal than Disney, but we rode Spiderman and Mummy like 15 times back to back because of them!

That sounds scary. No wonder you didn't want to drive after that! I don't get the male fascination with cars either! If it gets me from point A to point B safely it works for me!

:rotfl::lmao::thumbsup2

Electric Umbrella update:

I agree that is a really weird placement for the plant!

You are making me want to read KK now!

I've read Universal TRs where the single rider line saves people who don't stay on Universal property. Otherwise those lines get pretty crazy or so I've heard!

Haha, just as much as we don't understand guys and cars, I'm sure they don't understand our obsession with bags or shoes or whatever we're into!

READ IT. :D Read it during the school year, and then you'll have some Disney to sustain you PLUS you'll be exercising your brain with the reading! Perfect!

DISNEYMOON PLANS!

Haha, I know you'll eventually watch all the episodes when we're together and we have it on DVD. I'm sure we'll laugh, just not as much as the earlier seasons! And I'll keep tearing up with the Jim and Pam thing on the boat!

That's a really cute idea! I can imagine it would be hard to accomplish though.

I kind of feel the same way about The Office, but I know I'll keep watching it anyway.

That's why TV is way more awesome than movies. You can watch it and if it wasn't a good episode, all you wasted really was half an hour. A bad movie means wasting time and MONEY!

Questions: Part I

As Weird and I are making general plans to find out the cost of a Disneymoon, we've come across a few questions that we were wondering if you lovely DISers could answer! Neither of us has ever stayed on property, so we're really newbies about it and would like to find the way to save as much as possible. We know some of the answers to these questions from Googling it, but it may help if you guys have extra information.

1. Is staying on property required to be on the Disney Dining Plan? (I do see that it's resort guests only, just wanted to make sure.)

2. If we stay on property, do we have to purchase a Magic Your Way package? Weird and I have a few days left on our no-expiration tickets and don't know if this would mean just keeping those for future use and using the tickets that come with the package.

3. Is the DDP only available through a Magic Your Way package?

4. Are "room only" reservations available all year round? I see that there's a deal for the end of this year, but of course, that wouldn't apply to us now. Again, since we have tickets and enjoy the no expiration thing (never know whether health may affect us on one of the days and we'd have to keep a simple schedule), having a room on property would make sense to some degree. But then again, if DDP is only through Magic Your Way ...

5. If we rent points for DVC (hopefully to save money instead of booking directly through the resort ourselves thanks to the info I got from Joanna and Staci!), do we do the same thing as we would at a resort by buying the Magic Your Way to get the DDP?

6. I know that Fridays have higher point values for DVC, so if we decided to do a Fri-Fri trip but were obviously leaving that Friday in the morning, would we have to count that as a full day's worth of points?

We have a ton more questions about staying on property, but these are probably the most important. We won't be going any time soon (early 2012), but we're trying to make sure it's okay for us to plan on a Disneymoon if we keep our wedding extremely simple. After a bit of research, we realized that it's not going to be that much more to go to WDW as compared to going to the Hershey Hotel. Why not do what we want because our honeymoon only comes once!

Any other advice you guys have would be great! I know more about the parks themselves, but like I said, I never stayed on property, which means I never had DDP or resort transportation or EMH. For those of you who stay on property or have DVC, what do you think is the best option? We looked at off-site for a second, but we think that out of all times to stay on property, that would be the time. Same with DDP. I know I could easily post these question on another section of the boards, but I want the opinion and advice from friends :grouphug:

I know, I feel like I haven't really missed much on your TR because I've been keeping up on Facebook and seeing all your pictures there! Obviously, I don't get the in depth stories there, though!

That's funny about your kids getting into the Veggietales song! Taping it was a good idea.

We found this ridiculously catchy song about Henry VIII and what happened to all his wives and the kids LOVED it. I must have watched it about 100 times between all of my classes asking to watch it over and over. I had the song stuck in my head for weeks! They would come to school and say, "My friend made me listen to that song while I was talking to her on the phone!"

I will answer the questions I know, which isn't many...

Question #2 is No and Question #4 is Yes. Both times we stayed on property, we didn't buy tickets and did a room only package.

I'm sure others will give you better answers about the rest of it.

The only other thing I can think of is you might want to consider renting a car with your health conditions. Some of the places to wait for the buses are not shaded and do not have places to sit (except the ground). Bus waits can get long and the buses can get full (especially if you're going over a school break!) so you'd possibly have to stand on the bus as well and from what you've said that would probably be bad for you. It might give you more piece of mind to have a car and not have to worry about the possible complications. But maybe somebody else with more experience with the buses has better advice about it!

Questions: Part I

1. Is staying on property required to be on the Disney Dining Plan? (I do see that it's resort guests only, just wanted to make sure.)

Yes

2. If we stay on property, do we have to purchase a Magic Your Way package? Weird and I have a few days left on our no-expiration tickets and don't know if this would mean just keeping those for future use and using the tickets that come with the package.

No, you can book room only and buy your tickets separately or use no expiration tickets purchased previously. But, you have to be on a package to have the DDP

3. Is the DDP only available through a Magic Your Way package?

Yep, unless you are a DVC member or an AP holder

Room only reservations can be made year round.

5. If we rent points for DVC (hopefully to save money instead of booking directly through the resort ourselves thanks to the info I got from Joanna and Staci!), do we do the same thing as we would at a resort by buying the Magic Your Way to get the DDP?

If you rent DVC points the member can add the dining plan to your reservation for you, you would not have to purchase park tickets as well to get the DDP

6. I know that Fridays have higher point values for DVC, so if we decided to do a Fri-Fri trip but were obviously leaving that Friday in the morning, would we have to count that as a full day's worth of points?

The way I understand it is that points are much higher for weekend nights (Friday and Saturday) but you do only pay for the NIGHT that you stay, so the day of your checkout wouldn't use points. A lot of DVC members that I know will go on a Saturday and spend that first night in a value hotel, then move to the DVC resort on Sunday when the points go down.

Answers above in green - hope this helps a little!

1. Is staying on property required to be on the Disney Dining Plan? (I do see that it's resort guests only, just wanted to make sure.)
Yes, you must.

2. If we stay on property, do we have to purchase a Magic Your Way package? Weird and I have a few days left on our no-expiration tickets and don't know if this would mean just keeping those for future use and using the tickets that come with the package.
You don't have to purchase a package to stay on property. However, to get the dining plan, you have to purchase at least one day of tickets for each of you.

3. Is the DDP only available through a Magic Your Way package?
Yes-- you have to book a package. But check out what I said above.

Yes, you can get a room only reservation whenever you want. But if you want the DDP, you must book a package (i.e. at least one day of tickets)

5. If we rent points for DVC (hopefully to save money instead of booking directly through the resort ourselves thanks to the info I got from Joanna and Staci!), do we do the same thing as we would at a resort by buying the Magic Your Way to get the DDP?
The DVC owner can book the DDP for you. I think in this instance, you don't have to buy any tickets from Disney.

6. I know that Fridays have higher point values for DVC, so if we decided to do a Fri-Fri trip but were obviously leaving that Friday in the morning, would we have to count that as a full day's worth of points?
No--points are per night, not per day. If you leave Friday day, you won't pay any points for that night.

I would say absolutely stay on property and get the DDP-- it's honestly so wonderful to be 100% immersed in the Disney experience. Growing up, my mom worked for hotels, so we always stayed off-site. It's only lately that I've gotten to stay on property and I love it. The convenience is great-- I even love the Disney buses (DBF nor I like to drive, so the relaxation that comes from letting someone else transport us around is worth the price staying onsite ten times over!).
I know a lot of people have had good experience renting DVC points, but for me, it's way too risky. You just never know-- I would hate to be stuck at Disney, with no reservations/DDP. The transaction involves a great amount of trust.
I would recommend staying at a moderate-- POR and POFQ are beautiful and romantic. Plus, if you go at a slower time of year (know that's tough for a teacher), there's always discounts to be had--- free dining, room % discounts, etc.

Oh man, can you imagine driving a car that huge? Ooo, thank God your mom was okay! What car do you have now? For a bit, Weird and I were looking at the VW Tiguan because he love VWs.

I have only ever driven a Honda Accord. I love them!!! I had a standard 2 door when I was 16 and then I got the one I have now when I was almost 20. I love it!

Neither of us has ever stayed on property, so we're really newbies about it and would like to find the way to save as much as possible. 1. Is staying on property required to be on the Disney Dining Plan? (I do see that it's resort guests only, just wanted to make sure.)

Yep! You can only get the DDP if you stay at a Disney Resort.

2. If we stay on property, do we have to purchase a Magic Your Way package? Weird and I have a few days left on our no-expiration tickets and don't know if this would mean just keeping those for future use and using the tickets that come with the package.

If you get a package through WDW you do. I'm not 100% sure on this, but I think you just have to get one day's worth of tickets to get the DDP, but I might be wrong. Your DDP is for the number of nights you're staying there.

But if you rent DVC then your DDP can be added on to your rental. And then you have to buy your tickets separately. So you can use those days that are left on your old tickets and only buy a few days worth of other tickets (I can give you a good site to get discounted tickets).

3. Is the DDP only available through a Magic Your Way package?

Typically, yes. But not with DVC.

You can get a room only ressie year-round, but you can't add the DDP to it. But if you wanted to just get a room, you could do that and then use your tickets that are left, and then just pay OOP for your meals.

5. If we rent points for DVC (hopefully to save money instead of booking directly through the resort ourselves thanks to the info I got from Joanna and Staci!), do we do the same thing as we would at a resort by buying the Magic Your Way to get the DDP?

Nope--you have the DVC owner add the DDP plan for you (you pay when you arrive) and then you're in charge of getting your own tickets.

6. I know that Fridays have higher point values for DVC, so if we decided to do a Fri-Fri trip but were obviously leaving that Friday in the morning, would we have to count that as a full day's worth of points?

You only count the days you're spending the night. Your BY FAR cheapest option would be to stay Sunday through Thurs. Friday and Saturday usually double (or close to double) the points. For example: when we went last Sept it was 8 pts for Sun-Thurs, and then it was 16 for Fri and Sat.

Let's say you wanted to get married Feb 11, 2012 and you wanted to stay at AKL (the cheapest). If you checked in on Sunday (you can stay somewhere closer on Sat night and then get an early flight Sun) and checked out Friday (flew home Fri), it would cost you 52 points (5 nights). But if you got married on Fri and wanted to fly to Disney that night and check out on Fri, it'd cost you 84 pts (7 nights). BUT if you got married in Sept, Jan, or the first half of Dec, it would only cost you 73 pts for Fri-Fri, and only 45 for Sun-Fri. Oh--and you can usually get the pts for $9 or $10, so you're looking at $450-$840 depending on when and what nights. And that's for AKL--it's different for the others. But this at least gives you a ball-park number.

Hopefully that helps a little more. Check out those point charts I sent you (in that document) and it will help you to really see what the differences in points are for what seasons and things. :)

We have a ton more questions about staying on property, but these are probably the most important. We won't be going any time soon (early 2012), but we're trying to make sure it's okay for us to plan on a Disneymoon if we keep our wedding extremely simple. We stayed at Disney AKL for cheaper than we could have stayed at a LaQuinta here! Our weekday nights were only $80 per night, and our weekend nights were $160! It was a great way to be able to stay somewhere nice!

Any other advice you guys have would be great! I know more about the parks themselves, but like I said, I never stayed on property, which means I never had DDP or resort transportation or EMH. For those of you who stay on property or have DVC, what do you think is the best option? We absolutely love the DDP because we don't have to even think about prices on the menus. Since it's all paid in advance, it allows us to order things that we normally wouldn't if we were paying OOP. We really like going to the nice restaurants too, but I know that you said you'd probably want to stick with QS meals--but they have the QSDP as well!

We don't do EMH (I did with my family a few years ago, but Michael and I didn't) because TourGuideMike says those days are always busier at those parks. But I know a lot of people do use them and they love it. Just making it to rope drop every day was the most important for us.

We'll never stay off property again. And I'm pretty sure we'll always rent points now. It's just too good of a deal to pass up!! :thumbsup2

Thank you so much, Kristen, Michelle, Kylie, and Staci! Weird and I REALLY appreciate your answers. It's really difficult looking for information sometimes bcause there's just so much out there. Of course, it's easy to come across the info when it's not needed, but when we were researching, we were getting so overwhelmed!

I know, I feel like I haven't really missed much on your TR because I've been keeping up on Facebook and seeing all your pictures there! Obviously, I don't get the in depth stories there, though!

Do you use Histeria with your kids? I think that if I had to teach social studies/history, I'd be showing a TON of Histeria! I loved it when I was in school and remembered things because of the cartoon! I actually know SOME things about the Tudors because of the show!

Thanks for mentioning the car/bus thing. I mentioned it to Weird, and we said that if we book a cheaper non-DVC place (if for some reason it comes out cheaper), then we'd rent a car. I know it'll be such a change getting on the buses since I've only ever stayed at the family's timeshare and had the car. If we needed to leave, we just got in our car and left. I'm hoping we won't HAVE to rent a car, but we're definitely going to be keeping that in mind. I might just have to get used to sitting on the ground EVERYWHERE!

Answers above in green - hope this helps a little!

Ooo, I'm glad that the DVC points count for the night we stay. I can't imagine having to leave on a Thursday night or something! We wouldn't be able to do a park on that Friday morning when we leave, but at least we'll have one more night in Disney!

I would say absolutely stay on property and get the DDP-- it's honestly so wonderful to be 100% immersed in the Disney experience. Growing up, my mom worked for hotels, so we always stayed off-site. It's only lately that I've gotten to stay on property and I love it. I think it'll be nice just to get on a bus and not have to worry about navigating our way from place to place. Of course, like I said to Kristen above, it's going to be such a change since I'm very used to the car! I do like knowing that if worse comes to worst, we could always just get a taxi or something if I'm not feeling well and can't wait for the bus.

Yeah, that's probably the only thing that makes this a bit difficult - having to trust someone. There's a slight possibility that a DIS friend will have points though, and if that's true, it'll be a lot easier! Plus, another DIS friend said she'd help us out with the searching!

The teacher thing is really what makes this so difficult. Going during my Easter break is spring break. That's the most expensive time of year! It's either that or February break, but we're thinking that maybe we won't want to deal with a potential blizzard grounding our flight to Florida. We've been getting more and more snow over the past few years.

Free dining would've been perfect though ... with my health issues, I may not always be able to eat. I'd feel guilty about wasting the money put into the dining plan, but yeah, the timing just wouldn't work out.

I have only ever driven a Honda Accord. I love them!!! I had a standard 2 door when I was 16 and then I got the one I have now when I was almost 20. I love it!

Don't you love how we can stick to the same car probably for the rest of our lives, but guys tend to love looking to see what's new? Haha.

Reading that thing you sent really helped me understand more of the DVC point system. However, the charts help and don't help at the same time. They help because I know the point values, but they don't help because it makes me sad knowing that it's going to be so much more just because I'm a teacher! AGH! I can't help that I have to go to WDW during school breaks! I really wish that I could just take off work during a slow season ... hehe. My principal wouldn't like that though!

I looked at the QSDP before I looked at DDP. I think it'd be more fun, especially on our honeymoon, to have some nice meals! That'd be the time to splurge more!

Yeah, I read about EMH being the busy days. Since we stayed off-site this past April, I knew I had to avoid the EMH parks. Sarah (wdwgirl03) was there at the same time and because she and her dad used EMH, they were able to get everything done and not feel the crowds. They said they got so much done in that first hour! I know that if you can't get there for EMH that that's the park to avoid. I think we actually ended up at MK on an EMH day though because we had no choice. We were able to deal with it by seeing the shows during the hot afternoons. I still wish we could go in February ... we just don't want to worry about snow!

Blogging, a TR Substitute

This isn't a TR update (sorry!), but I did want to let you know that I started a new blog recently. My other blog is pretty much private due to the fact that I write about school/students. I figured there may be some of you who want to follow wedding planning and other random things that wouldn't fit here on the trip report.

Comment here or PM me, and I'll happily send you the link!

It looks like your questions you had have been answered pretty thoroughly, but if any pop into your head I'm here to help! I can give you my personal opinion about staying on property, though. I LOVE to stay on property just because I feel like I am really totally immersed in the Disney magic. Whenever I went in October 2007 with my mom we stayed off property so she could bring her dog. It wasn't bad at all, but it just didn't have the same magical feeling to me as staying on property does. However, it might be the exact opposite for you since you are used to staying off property. But it really can be a good deal if you book it when they have some sort of special offer.

Also, I think the DDP is WONDERFUL! We tried it for the first time last year and we will always do it from now on! We love how easy it is. It's so nice not having to worry about the cost of your meals because you've already paid for them in your package price. I know it sounds silly because this isn't the case, but it almost feels to me like they're free!

I would love the link to your blog if you don't mind! I really enjoy reading what you write on here so I'd like to read more! :)

At this point, I don't think Weird and I are even considering staying off property! If it really saves a lot of money, we'll do that for future trips. Right now, we feel that we save on everything else in our life and should get to do what we always wanted for our honeymoon by going to WDW and staying on-site! A time to celebrate, right?

The DDP sounds fantastic because it'll allow us to enjoy more. I know that when we're in the parks, we'll think twice about buying something due to the cost. However, having snack credits on the DDP will "force" us to get something, so we won't feel guilty about that apple turnover from Main Street Bakery or the Dole Whip Float!

Sent the link through PM - don't know how often I'll update, but it's nice to know I won't be going off on a tangent like I would if I posted those updates on the TR!

Monday, April 5: Watching Our Wallets

Lunch was extremely filling, and we knew we weren't quite ready to get on a ride or even start walking around World Showcase just yet. I wonder if it was Disney planning that put the lovely MouseGears right across from Electric Umbrella! It worked out for us because we could just "window" shop for a while. I also was on a mission to find and take a picture of something.

Right away, we saw this! So cute! I love the different colors. If I were to ever buy and wear Mickey ears, I definitely would have gotten that one. It'd match with every single Old Navy tank top that I own! That would mean it could be worn for years to come because seriously, I'm probably going to be wearing ON "tangs" until I'm old and wrinkly. I also really liked the different color Mickeys. If I didn't have Mascot Mickey, I think one of those would've come home with me!

IMG_6614.jpg

This hoodie also wanted to come home with me, but it was much too expensive. I liked the fact that all the Mickey faces were the different flags. Unfortunately, I'm not that big on white because I'm always afraid of getting it dirty. Plus, I already have a white 3/4 sleeve hoodie with hearts on it with silver hidden Mickeys in some of the hearts. I bought that at Walmart a few years ago for wayyy less than this hoodie would have been!

IMG_6615.jpg

Another clothing item with tons of color! Too much color for me, but I thought the design was very cute. Look at Mickey just rockin' out!

IMG_6616.jpg

Then I found what I wanted to find. Does anyone know what that is? It's Dreamfinder's Dream Mobile from Journey into Imagination! I very distinctly remember the scene when Dreamfinder is riding this thing in the air. I don't remember much else from the ride as a kid except for that part!

IMG_6617.jpg

I found these little guys on keychains! I wanted to buy one because I was fascinated by the baby plushies with the blankets, and this was a small version that wouldn't be so weird for me to purchase!

IMG_6619.jpg

Awww, so cute! Look at Dumbo and Minnie! Don't you love how Dumbo's blanket has a circus tent on it?

IMG_6620.jpg

Then I also saw these, and for a moment, I actually regretted having Mascot Mickey. I wanted a Sorcerer Mickey so badly, and it would have been better because he was much smaller than my Mickey. Plus, he had the clip to attach to my bag. Same goes for the regular Mickey and the princess Minnie! But then the moment passed. Mascot Mickey is way more fun BECAUSE of his size. He can sit in places and just hang out while the smaller Mickeys would have to be propped up for a photo.

IMG_6621.jpg

Of course, that didn't stop me from taking a pic of the little guy! I remember when I first got the sorcerer hat and when I got it for Weird on VMK! It was such a fun day. I used to wear it ALL the time until I got my princess Minnie hat!

IMG_6622.jpg

There were more Vinylmation on display. Wow, still creepy! The Holiday set, according to the little sign on the right side of the box, is on the bottom. The St. Patrick's Day one would freak me out if I pulled that out of the box! The ones on top are definitely better because they're the park series. I think it's cute that they have the leopard that holds the umbrella from "it's a small world." Isn't it interesting how it's so easily recognizable? I guess maybe it's because there isn't that much to look at when your boat passes by that scene.

IMG_6623.jpg

For those of you who like Vinylmation, look at this wacky shirt! I took the pic because I loved seeing Boo on it on the bottom lefthand corner.

IMG_6624.jpg

Then I was on a mission to go around the store to photograph BAGS! I loved almost every single one of those bags and could see myself using each one! I loved that this tote had a zipper on the top. I also think that if you looked at it really quickly, you might not see the Mickey there, which is great for those times that you don't want to look TOO Disneyfied in the real world.

IMG_6625.jpg

This was a bag that I actually REALLY liked. I considered getting it too. It could fit a ton of stuff including a book (or my nook now), a journal, and a LLBean water bottle! Haha, I try to always carry that stuff around with me. It kind of looks like a ... bowling bag? And for some reason, I think that's cute because the tote I use for work has the design of a bowling bag in the slightest form. And then Weird borrowed his sister's bag for the trip, and it looked like a bowling bag.

This bag is for someone who works in a more corporate setting because she can't be flashing a big obvious Mickey tote dressed in business casual wear! I would definitely use this if I were older. Haha, right now, I can still get away with using obnoxiously Disney bags at times. I also have a red tote that has Bob the Tomato's face on it that I use mainly to transport games to and from school before a vacation/break. I think at my age and because I'm a teacher, I can "get away" with these things.

I liked this one because it was mainly black, which is usually the color I go for because it doesn't show dirtiness as quickly, yet it had the white to brighten it up.

This tote's a bit too flashy for me for everyday use, but I can see myself using this to the beach! Not that I go to the beach. I actually hate beaches. Last year when Weird and I went on the church beach trip, I was holding two junior high girls (one of them being my cousin) by the hand so that i could keep them up as we jumped waves. But we went in too deep at one point, and in an attempt to keep them upright when one wave was too big for us, I lost my balance and was under the water for quite some time! I hated the feeling, and then for the rest of the day, I kept pulling sand out from every possible crevice of my body!

I wish I had this tote to carry my music when I used to take piano lessons as a kid. I think I would've liked the lessons more.

Not a bag but a dress! Haha, again, it'd be perfect for the beach!

If I didn't have my Lesportsac bag, I would've bought this one. I saw it and actually regretted getting my bag for a brief second. But then I realized that I love mine so much more because it's better material and because it's not Disneyfied, it's easier to use here at home. Don't worry, I still love my bag! I just know I would've bought this had I not had mine already. It just would've been VERY purple.

While I was off and away in my own little world searching for all the bags that I could quickly capture (since we were with my dad, there was no way we'd be staying in there for very long), Weird was off taking his own pics too. Here's Matt with a Mickey keychain. I don't know why he took it or if Matt wanted him to take it? Matt's learning that when you want something but can't buy it for whatever reason, take a picture with it!

Weird also took more pics of the Vinylmation displays. The top is the Muppets set and the bottom is the Cutesters set. I don't think that all of the Cutester ones are actually cute ...

Here's a different angle of the case that I saw and photographed. The monorail one is cute! I think it's a monorail, right (top left in the front row)?

And here's a close-up of Goofy. I have a student who LOVES Disney, but she's obsessed with Goofy! Everything on her backpack is Goofy, and she has a ton of Goofy pins! To the left of Goofy is the Tower of Terror one, which I also think is really cool!

Here's the close-up of Boo on that t-shirt from above.

And more of the colorful Mickeys! Ooo, is that PJ pants I see?

MouseGears is a HUGE store, and we only got to explore part of it. Next time, I'm sure we'll be there for a little bit longer with way more pics! And of course, that's because taking pics of something can be just as good or better than buying it! Anyone else do that too? (Hehe, I got Weird to do it all the time now!)

I'm getting to where I really love shopping pics. Except for I want everything that I see! I'm a Mickey girl and I love just about anything with Mickey on it. However, I find that wearing my Mickey clothes outside of Disney seems a bit out of place (only to me, probably not to anyone else around me, though - with the exception of those co-workers who make fun of my Disney obsession!). I do carry a Mickey recycled bag and I have a Mickey watch and a Mickey bracelt, though!

Love MouseGears!! That canvas/green zippered tote is really cute!! I don't "do" a lot of Disney stuff IRL (besides my Wishes/monorail ring tones), but I like the subtlety of that bag!
I also love the Muppets Vinylmations! Love anything to do with the Muppets. The TOT one is also pretty cool-- didn't know they had ones based on rides!

Yay for shopping pics! The Vinylmation shirt is cool- kinda reminds me of Toki Doki. It would be neat if they had a bag with the same design as the shirt.

Oh gosh, the Vinylmation characters are just so adorable :cutie: I want them all!
