Help! I have an 8 year old with autism. We are looking for a pattern with for a weighted blanket. We can not afford 150 for one so i am trying to cheat and make one on my own. If anyone has any ideas or patterns to make one i would greatly appreciate it

Hi,

Search on google for poly pellets. You will see a company called craftpellets. They have directions for making weighted blankets. This is also the best place I've found for buying poly pellets for making it. Use poly pellets so your blanket is washable and you won't have to worry about mold or other nasty problems if you use rice, corn etc.

Good luck. These blankets are so successful with so many kids. I especially love the fact that they help without any medication.

Lord i hope so. this child is driving me crazy. its like having a baby all over again.:dance3: she gets up at 11 then 2 then is up at 4 and stays up the rest of the day. by 9 she is grouchy, by 1 she is grumpy, and by 4 when she gets of the bus she is like the wicked witch of the west. i will get you my pretty and your little dog too. she is the one putting the smileys while i am typing this. she thinks we are going to disney for vacation. we havent told the kids yet. i think she pretty much has figured it out on her own. she is one smart cookie. :hippie::rotfl2::worship::cool1:she really loves the smileys. any ways to get back on subject. i am hoping the weighted blanket will help her sleep at night:confused3

Melatonin.

We have twins, now 13, and melatonin has changed their lives.
They sleep, they're rested...they are happier.

And so are DH and I:goodvibes

We use weighted blankets too...but I did the supercheap version and sewed quilts together - that I asked family and friends for.

Made duvet covers, and voila!
Our guys liked the weight all over them, so works for us.

Have to wash them at the laundrymat though. Much too heavy for a home machine.

HTH!!!
:)

we have tried melatonin. she will go to sleep at night but still wakes up every few hours. i am trying the weighted blakets as a last resort before we start sleep meds. also the melatonin causes her to be very very moody the next day, sometimes really violent:confused3
